  1. @VeryCheesey I did not end up attending Humphrey. I ended up choosing Harris over Humphrey and a couple other schools I was considering at the time. Harris was the most aligned with my interests and career goals. I did however learn a lot from talking to current students at Humphrey and also current students at other schools I was considering so I would definitely recommend that as you decide what school is best for you. Best of luck!
  2. @VeryCheesey When I was making my decision last year regarding this program I reached out to admissions to ask if they could connect me with a current student and that helped a lot. Seems as not many people on here know much about the program but I recommend you do that if you're still searching to learn more about Humphrey.
  3. @LizaBee they have a form you can fill out to request additional funding. They included it in one of the emails they sent out. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeaUwA0F3U3wkv4-D8lVmoiC27fZhMFWP6sLBAvRuP9bwBpVg/viewform Thats the link to it. Hope it works. Best of luck!
  4. @gradblues Bummer, I can't make it either. I'm curious to hear what people who visited thought about the program after their visit.
  5. Did you by any attend the spring visit this weekend or are planning to attend next weekend?
  6. Has anyone successfully negotiated a higher scholarship? I'm curious how much they usually go up from the initial offer.
  7. Hey Everyone! So I haven't seen a topic for the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota and I'm curious to learn more about this program. I applied to their MPP program for this upcoming fall and was recently offered about 90% funding but I don't know much about the program or what current students think about the program. How well known is the program and where do alumni end up working. I've visited Minneapolis before and loved the city, just don't know a lot about UMinnesota. I wasn't expecting to get this much funding from them but now I am really considering this program after the amount of funding I was offered. Right now I am trying to decide between Harris, Ford and now Humphrey. I'm not about to go their their visit days, which is unfortunate. Has anyone on here visited the school?
  8. Same here. Its a bummer, but best of luck to everyone who got in!
  9. I think it's more likely that we get decisions sometime next week, but hopefully sometime this week.
  10. I agree with you. I have also had great communication with Harris so I can't complain about that. I did really like that all the admitted students I spoke with were very easy to talk to and very interested in myself and my background. That was awesome. It was very relieving to hear from current students that the quant aspect of the program is not as intimidating as it seems. I know the Pearson Institute was a big focus of the event but I would have also liked to learn about other research centers at UChicago that student get involved with like the Urban Labs, NORC or Chapin Hall just to name a few.
  11. Did anyone sit in on one of the classes today? I was supposed to go but I was unable to last minute. I'm curious what people's thoughts were on the classes they attended. Also there was a "Get To Know Harris" event today too. I'm curious what that was about.
  12. My decision is going to come down to either Ford or Harris so I'm hoping Michigan sends out decisions soon!

    Milwaukee, WI

Hello everyone, I'm considering applying to UW-Milwaukee for graduate school. Can any current students or Milwaukee residents tell me about the University. I don't really know anything about the school. Also what is life in Milwaukee like. I've been told that parts of Milwaukee surrounding the University can be very dangerous. Thanks!
  14. Hey everyone! I'm applying a number of different master's in criminology and master's in public policy programs and I noticed that a lot of them ask if I plan or hope to continue on for a Phd in the future. What is the point of this question? I'm not too sure if I plan on continuing on for a Phd. I have considered that possibility but I am still just unsure if that is a route I will take. Should I answer yes to this question? Will it affect my application in any way if I say no? I'm just really curious to learn the reasoning behind asking this to applicants. Thanks!
  15. @AspiringScholarPhD You know I currently work with someone who is working on her doctorate at UCin's program and she's told me a lot of good things about the Criminology program there. It has actually emerged as one of my top choices as well! If I had to choose between UCin and NEU, I am not sure what I would choose. If I had to choose today, I would probably go with UCin. I actually take the GRE tomorrow. I'm super nervous about it. My Powerprep practice exam scores have not been super convincing and I have spent a lot of time prepping for it. I'm just hoping for the best.
  16. Yeah I have been reaching out to the schools I plan on applying to and many of them have said the similar things you all have mentioned. The scores are a requirement but application is looked at as a whole. That gave me sense of ease. I was stressing out about not being able to get into a good school because of it. @AspiringScholarPhD Cincinnati and Northeastern are my top choices. I would love to go to either. Best of luck to you as well!
  17. Hello everyone! I have been studying for and taking the GRE the past couple of months. I took it in August and got average scores in both Verbal and Quantitative (I'd rather not say exact scores as I am not too proud of them). A 5 in writing. I am taking it again in October. The truth is I absolutely blow when it comes to these types of tests. I did okay when I took the ACT in high school as well. I really do want to go back to school and earn a master's degree in criminology. I'm very worried that my GRE score will prevent me from going to a good program. Can anyone give me an idea of how important GRE scores are for masters programs in Criminology. I'm applying to masters programs at the following schools: University of Illinois at Chicago Loyola University Chicago University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Northeastern University University of Colorado - Denver University of Nebraska - Omaha University of Cincinnati Illinois State University. I just don't really know where to find this information and it's really stressing me out about the whole thing. I'm worried that my GRE scores will be the reason I get rejected from schools. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a bachelors in Criminology. I would say I had a good overall GPA (3.12, I started as a business student and that really messed up my GPA my first year and a half of school). I have relevant internship and work experience. If anyone could share anything they know that would be awesome and very appreciated!
  18. Hey Everyone, I am in need of some advice. I am in the process of figuring out what schools to apply for grad school this upcoming fall. I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Criminology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I'm thinking about to master's in Criminology programs and also master's in Public Policy programs. I'm not too sure on what path to take. I plan on applying to a mix of both Public Policy & Criminology programs. Currently I am a research and analysis intern at a criminal justice agency in Illinois and I have enjoyed the work. In the long run I would like to work in research related to youth violence/gang violence/violence prevention, things of that sort. I personally feel that both public policy and criminology programs can benefit me since both programs are very research based. I would just like to see what other people think and if any people have any advice for me. The schools I am planning to apply to are... University of Chicago - Public Policy University of Michigan - Public Policy University of Minnesota - Public Policy Portland State University - Public Policy University of Washington - Public Policy University of Illinois at Chicago - Criminology University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee - Criminology Loyola University Chicago - Criminology Illinois State University - Criminology University of Cincinnati - Criminology Northeastern University - Criminology
  19. Where did you see that you got accepted? On the application status page? Just curious, I submitted my application to UChicago the first week of January and haven't heard back. I'm dying to know if I got in or not.
  20. Hello everyone! I am applying for the University of Chicago's SSA masters program. Are there any current students of the program on here who can give me some advice on the candidate statement. Any help would be appreciated! I really would like to go to school here next Fall
