  1. Our combined efforts will make it happen! I appreciate the occasional STANFORD yell, @lisamadura. I'll of course be happy to return the favor, in case that would be helpful :P.
  2. Or for Japanese girls, of course. In all seriousness, I don't think anyone suggested their primary goal was to get academic employment. In fact, I would be perfectly happy with a job in another field (I am hoping to get a dual degree) and want to study philosophy not for the job prospects (<-- lol) but rather for the inherent value of philosophical inquiry. Thus, even if I end up at a non-academic job, I believe the Ph.D. in Philosophy will have enriched me. Nonetheless: good academic employment of course enables us to continue studying philosophy. I don't think that is in any way contrary to the love of wisdom.
  3. Anybody want to give this a try for Stanford and Yale? We can make it a duet
  4. I am also in a long-term relationship and so location will be one important factor. Like others, I hope to attend the highest-ranked institution to which I'm admitted that is also in a good location for the both of us. Of course, fit between your interests and those of the department is crucial, given the way that will influence both the productiveness of your time there and the eventual quality of your dissertation. Assuming an acceptable location and a good fit for all acceptances, however, I would not discount ranking. While systems of ranking are inherently limited and cannot represent accurately the quality of the quality of the education you will get, pedigree, for better or worse, is enormously important in the academic job market. This is particularly true in philosophy, where there are so few jobs each year. If a career in academic philosophy is a serious goal, I would think very hard before turning down a PGR10 offer.
  5. Thanks so much! I've been super anxious to hear from Georgetown too, so I appreciate you putting that one on the list!
  6. Stanford this week would be awesome! Definitely my dream school, though, given my credentials, it was probably a presumed reject when I applied :P. Also waiting for Notre Dame to release something soon!
  7. Thanks! I'll keep hoping for a little longer
  8. Hey Jac, what's your take on the UCLA posts? I've noticed in the past their acceptances seem very spread out. Do you think they're done with the first round of admissions?
  9. Wow, congrats!! Was it a generic message or a personalized e-mail?
  10. I'm going to assume (and hope) the Harvard is a troll too unless we see some evidence to the contrary. Thanks so much Nat for calling Princeton!
  11. My writing sample was on the philosophy of igneous rocks! Particularly whether or not they are necessarily igneous or whether they could have been sedimentary. Tl;dr: Geological findings prove Kripke was wrong on the essentiality of origin. Lol, another fake Yale. I would not worry about any of them, probably the same person. Now that makes me curious about the legitimacy of Princeton, again... Let's hope tomorrow brings clarity! BTW: The Continental Drift made my evening.
  12. Exactly, don't lose hope yet. If last years are any indicator everyone should hear relatively quickly regardless of whether they are admit/wait list/rejects. Best of luck!
  13. Two more Princeton admits showed upon the board today - one international student who got an e-mail and another phone call. I'm afraid that's probably enough to show that it's not a troll, though I would think only two reported phone calls are not quite enough to call presumed rejections either.
  14. Ah, I didn't realize.. That would explain. In the past, they've sent out rejections/admissions at the same time so hopefully we'll hear soon regardless!
  15. Princeton... super early though. Anyone here lucky enough to claim it?
  16. Lol... Browse through the records of rejects in other disciplines and you'd be surprised how many people make a point to note every credential they can think of when they get rejected. Only to note that they really DIDNT CARE ANYWAY, of course
  17. Sure, I got acceptances to UC Boulder (with fellowship nomination) and Illinois-Urbana yesterday. Hoping for some news from ND and Georgetown tomorrow, but am really happy to have these options and to know that I'll be studying philosophy over the coming years! Unless of course you meant where I got rejected, lol, in which case: that was the U of Chicago
  18. Claiming another rejection/MAPH referral. Kind of disappointed because I thought the department would've been a great match, but thankfully I now have other acceptances to offset this
  19. Sounds good, paddle along we shall :D. Where did you apply? Hope you hear something soon!
  20. Thanks! I felt exactly the same way, started the cycle with two implied rejections and no contact from any program... It's extremely stressful. Have faith, I was about ready to give up hope and then got two admits in one day. Things'll turn around!
  21. Just got the admit to Urbana-Champaign, too :). Looks like they're notifying all successful applicants today.
  22. Thanks! I received a personal e-mail from the DGS. This may have been sent early because of the fellowship nomination. In fact, if I login to the online portal there is no decision available yet (just says my application is "complete and under review"), so I would not give up hope yet.
  23. Just admitted into CU Boulder with full funding and nominated for fellowship! Such a relief to know I'll be studying philosophy in the coming years no matter what happens during the rest of this cycle... Needed this!
  24. Congrats!!! I'm an undergrad from lib arts college myself, so this gives me some hope
