  1. Congrats! Just declined their offer, hope it helps you!
  2. Thanks for letting us know! Did you apply to the JD/PhD at Stanford too?
  3. Just noticed somebody posted a UCLA wait list. That means they're done sending out acceptances right? There were some mixed messages about that before..
  4. Yeah I received the same e-mail. In the past they seem to have made decisions earlier than that, though, and somebody in another thread mentioned he received his acceptance the 25th in 2015. The dates in those e-mails are often much later than the actual release dates to provide a cushion in case something holds up the adcom.
  5. But you did end up at one of the best schools in the US for your undergrad! Given your spectacular profile, I'm sure you will do similarly well in your grad applications -- hang in there!
  6. I second this! Also; this calls for a Douglas Adams reference: "He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it."
  7. Wow!!!! Congrats!! *watches phone in trepidation*
  8. Thank you for the update, and congrats to your friend!!
  9. There's a Yale post... Anybody able to claim it?
  10. I'm not sure about BC, but I was told to expect Georgia State's decisions around the 25th.
  11. Same :(. Really disappointed about this one.
  12. Thanks very much! I hope they do the same this year!
  13. Lol, yes! They've been spamming my e-mail since this summer.
  14. Me too.. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you (or, as they'd say in my home country, i'll "twiddle my thumbs for you"). I'll admit having to restrain myself from calling them today, lol.
  15. Yes... I received 7 emails over the last 15 minutes none of which contained an admission, lol. Though, the lack of a message from Georgetown breaks my heart more than the silence from Stanford/Yale... At least those hopes aren't crushed yet
  16. Aren't you applying for their Ph.D.? It looks like they're only sending out MA acceptances at the moment...
  17. Still nothing from Georgetown . This was one of my last (semi-)realistic shots at a JD/PhD program. Should I presume rejection by now?
  18. I heard the story about him sending the score, but never realized Schopenhauer responded like that! Glad Wagner didn't listen to him . Parsifal is incredible. There are days I prefer the Valkyrie, though, because of this: And the Ride of the Valkyries is awesome for when you're having a bad day.
  19. Sounds good, I look forward to it . I'll be sure to jump straight into the World, then. Hopefully I can find the time sometime soon to start reading it. On a side note, I may be misinterpreting your interests based on the title of your writing sample - but, as somebody who seems interested both in Schopenhauer and music: have you listened to the works of Richard Wagner? Though he was undoubtedly a thoroughly unpleasant character, he always cited Schopenhauer as his greatest inspiration. And I daresay his music is one of the greatest achievements in the history of Western art.
  20. I admit to my shame I still haven't read the World as Will and Representation, though I've been meaning to do so for a long time. I did read his essay on the freedom of the will, which I thought was fascinating and extremely well written. By the way: I just noticed the title/subject of your writing sample, it sounds fascinating! I'd love to read it sometime, if you don't mind.
  21. Someone in the acceptance thread said the ND committee was running behind because of computer problems... Hoping they get fixed today, lol. Also: I think Yale has been very consistent so here's to hoping they continue that trend today. BTW: You should join in our Stanford & Yale group chant.
  22. All our chanting and yelling has been for naught, Stanford and Yale! Ah well, I guess I can keep the hope alive for another day... Thanks @AmandaEvans for the update on ND!!
  23. Plato and Kant - particularly, the Republic and the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals. Though, needless to say, everything each of them wrote is brilliant. In contemporary philosophy, I've particularly enjoyed Thomas Nagel, both his articles and his books.
