I have been thinking about getting myself a pen pal. And then I realized that it is immensely difficult to find someone as devoted to academia and learning as I am. Or just - let us be clear - as smart ;). Hence - this is a thread for anyone who wants to get a pen pal. The structure of a post is easy: your interests and what you would like to talk about. And someone - perhaps, a future friend? - will drop you a personal message.
-
Btw, has any international student here had an interview?
-
Thank you
-
It went well. However, I was not accepted in the end. Hence, I just made the cut for a short-list.

I am so sorry. Well, we really don't need to endure country music any time we go a bar, do we?

Ok. Application Management - then click on the 2016-2017 (blue) - Open Application - Status Update - An update to your application was last posted January 24, 2016. - View Update. If you don't have that, then maybe you don't have a rejection.
-
Wait a second then.

Thank you! Well, you log into their website (Peabody), and then just go into your application, and if should say something like 'a new message'... Tell me if you can't find it, I'll log in again and give you more precise info.

Same

and no interview = no acceptance. correct?
-
This is encouraging. Do you know any details about how exactly she communicated to them? Is it possible to do it via e-mail?
-
I am so sorry. I am sure you will get into a wonderful program.

The PhD results have apparently been on the website from the 24th of January. At least the rejections. I got a rejection - not particularly sad, but genuinely puzzled - it's been there since the 24th of January. Is it truly SO difficult to send an e-mail?! Seriously?! I have had no idea.

School: University of Michigan Area: Education Rationalization: The usual. The 'fit' thing. Comment: I had a Skype interview, and it somehow felt overly informal... I did not feel exactly right about it (I expected something more demanding). Still, I was hurt, because I thought it went well, I researched Ann Arbor, and I started to genuinely like the city, and the idea of me living there. Coping tactics: Talking to friends, staying strong, preparing for the next round. And, first of all - too bad for Michigan. Really.

I got a rejection, and I feel truly sad.

Any updates from anyone?
-
I think it's a bit too long, actually... It doesn't really say anything, and it's lengthy.
-
What does your LOR say? Does it just state that you are wonderful or sets you apart?
-
Ok, here we go: "Most full-time doctoral students receive a funding package, which include a tuition waiver, health insurance, and a stipend for living expenses for at least four years. Contact your program administrator for details''. Nothing about international students! And they are surely a part of 'most'.

Ok, so I am an international student. The website of the school I am waiting for an answer from says: a. the PhD program is covered head to toe without saying a thing about international students or specifying anything at all, just 'good news, forlks! it's all covered once you get accepted'; b. on Q&A page they claim that international students do not their programs covered. Might b. mean only MA students? That would make sense, otherwise how are they going to excel in research and internationalize?! For the reference, I am talking about Michigan Ann Arbor.
