Congratulations! I'm so happy for you

Wow, that is the quickest turn around time I've ever heard. Impressive! I submitted my application to NYU last Friday. I hope to hear back from them soon. By the way, I have been stalking NYU admission and see that on their calendar they have scheduled a webinar meeting for accepted msw students on March 8. Thus, I think all MSW Fall 2016 decisions are to be made last week of February the latest.

Thanks. I think I received that email before I submitted my application (even before I paid the application fee).

That's awesome! I wish you good luck and let us know when you hear from them.

Did you hear back from NYU?

Guys, what does the email from the Dean look like? I submitted my application last week, but do not think I have received any correspondence from the Dean of NYU SSW. Thank you!

You're welcome! Let us know when you submit your application so that you can join the Ram Wait team ...

Thanks Brendon. I think I won't hear back from the admissions until a month from now or until April. I am one of those extended-deadline applicants.

It depends on when you submit your application and when it is complete. From the email CSSW sent to me on Jan. 6th, this is what it looks like: "Hello XXX, The Office of Admissions has received all required materials for your application for Fall 2016 admission to our Two-Year International Program program. Your application is now complete and will enter the admission review process. Spring decisions are typically issued in mid November and rolling thereafter. Fall decisions are typically issued in March and rolling thereafter. " The regular deadline for Fall 2016 was originally January 4th, but now it has been extended and CSSW are still accepting more applications on a space availability basis. Yet, this should not affect those who submitted their application before or on Jan. 4th. I also found from someone in Social Work forum that international applicants tend to be notified of the School's decision before the locals as international students need time to process their visas. I believe we can aim for last week of February or March 1st to check back and see if the decision is made. I hope this helps

Just wanted to have space where NYU's MSW applicants can share news and updates along the admissions process at this School.

From what I know an assistantship program is being offered by the schools themselves not FAFSA. Likewise when you file FAFSA doesn't affect your chance of getting assistantship. Like Fordham for instance when I attended their info-session the admissionns told us that the call for assistantship applicants will come with their email informing you of your financial aid from the School. But you are right that this is limited and that is why once you receive the email from the School, you should apply for the assistantship immediately.

Regarding FAFSA, you don't need to wait for your W-2, you can estimate your income and tax based on last year paper. You can submit the form now and re-visit FAFSA after you have filed tax to enter the accurate tax data. I submitted my FAFSA on Sunday night and it was processed and approved on Monday morning. But don't forget to go back to the website after you have your 2015 tax info.

Not really. I talked about problems I have experienced through work and such so I didn't cite any sources on my paper. I personally think that they want to see if you are mature enough to identify social issues by using your own logic. It is different from a research/academic paper. Use your own language to explain things and make sure to give them some recommendations, too.

20K? That's a lot already. When I hear the scholarship you got, Columbia's is like a joke. My husband got 4K a year from Columbia in 2010. You guys are awesome!

This really helps CrimsonEyes. I am trying to tell myself not to be frustrated and not to go crazy checking emails every five minutes from 8am to 5pm (during the office hours), but I can't. Sometimes I used to wake up in the middle of the night and check my inbox and the GradCafe to see if anyone posts any updates. My husband thinks I'm not well. HAHA

Thanks for sharing. I only hope the PhD and Masters have the same decision-making period. Waiting to hear from them is killing me. One more month to go, I guess.

RC, congratulations! You rock!

I agree with taking some time of between college and grad school. I went to a business school for undergrad and seeing all my friends applying for an MBA program right after we graduated, I wanted to do the same, too. However, I couldn't afford it so I applied for job instead. I worked in a private sector for 3 years. Though making a lot of money, I hated it! Then I worked for the UN for another 3 years and I loved my job. Now my goal is more defined and I know what I really want to do. I am now applying for an MSW program. I think taking time off to explore what your desire in life is really is is not a waste of them. Don't forget Grad School is pricy and for most of us, this could be our last degree on earth.
