  1. How to get away with murder - an awesomely addicting show by Shonda Rhimes that comes on ABC
  2. You're not the only one @+thinking. One of the schools I applied for does rolling admissions and I've heard back from them already. My top pick had a deadline of 2/15 and won't even look at applications until sometime next week. This purgatory is driving me crazy lol.
  3. Hey everyone! So, I have been invited to attend an information session this Thursday for my POI and I have no idea on what I should wear or what questions I should ask. I applied for the school's Master of Public Health program last month (1/29) and their deadline was 2/15. Honestly, I want to ask about my application - but feel that this wouldn't be the appropriate time. Any suggestions on attire or questions to ask? Thanks in advance!

  5. I have to admit, I've been lurking on this thread for the longest to gain some sort of solace. My top school doesn't review applications until mid-March (one deadline was 2/15 and the next is 3/15). Fingers are crossed that they find it in their hearts to begin reviewing applications. Anywho, ever since I submitted my app last month, I've been feeling nostalgic and began to constantly watch reruns of Rugrats and Hey Arnold! to get my mind off of grad school lol.
  6. @cnkwoc2 I applied to both Georgia State and Georgia Southern's MPH programs. Georgia Southern just requires you to take the GRE, but doesn't have an requirements as far as the score. As for Georgia State, on their website it states that applicants who scored under a 280 combined are unlikely to be admitted. Good luck!
  7. @kamber and @Demeter congratulations!! I was recommended for admission for Georgia Southern's MPH Community Health program last week.
  8. I heard back from Southern around the same time you did. They called me this morning for a 15 min advisement session. You're basically accepted, all of the formal paperwork from Southern comes within the next week or two. Congratulations!
  9. @mm3733 that is extremely reassuring! All I've seen on this forum is people talking about exclusive schools and I honestly felt so intimidated because I'm pursuing my MPH in the state I live in rather than relocating to a prestigious school (not that there's anything wrong with that, just not for me at the moment). Thanks for the advice!!
  10. I like it a lot!! I've been here since 2005, but have lived 20-30 minutes away in the suburbs. There's definitely a lot to see and do when it comes to culture and entertainment. There's plenty of job opportunities with the Georgia Department of Public Health as well as other county public health officies. It's usually warm here, minus this week lol (it's freezing here). It is definitely cheaper than other places, but it depends on what side of town you decide to live on.
  11. You're welcome! I want to work there too! The tuition definitely scared me away lol. That's why I chose Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
  12. I only applied to two schools - Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Completed and submitted my SOPHAS app on1/29 and Georgia Southern contacted me almost immediately. Now, I'm just playing the waiting game.
  13. Congratulations on Emory and George Washington! That's a tough one, I'd be torn too! I've heard amazing things about Emory and the campus is gorgeous! Not to mention the CDC is right around the corner.
  14. Happy Friday, everyone!! Has anyone heard from their prospective schools yet? I know I'm waiting around until the end of this month to the middle of next month. I just wanted to see who else was playing the waiting game for their Master's of Public Health program. Good luck to everyone
  15. All I've seen from Georgia State is that they do not accept combined scores under 280. So like you said, I should be fine. Thank you for the reassurance! Good luck with your endeavors!
  16. Thank you! I just hate the waiting game behind it all lol. I'm hoping all the other factors can outshine the scores.
  17. Yeah, I'm applying for a Master's in Public Health. I wish I had time to take another GRE, but unfortunately, I don't. I'm just crossing my fingers at this point.
  18. Hey everyone! I know this may be a repetitive question, but this morning I just submitted my SOPHAS application to two schools and I wanted to know if the other application factors are stong enough to increase my chances of getting into Georgia State. My stats are: GRE: 145 V, 149 Q, and 3.0 Written (all horrible I know) Undergrad GPA: 3.46 Letters of Recommendation: All are stong and include: one from a Health Promotions professor, one from a mentor who works at the CDC, and one from my supervisor/internship coordinator of a local public health department. My major is Integrative Studies - concentrating in Exercise Science/Kinesiology and Psychology with a minor in Health Promotions. The most experience I have had was completing an internship with a local public health department that was geared to underserved populations. I work as a front office medical assistant and have worked at preschool for low-economic populations. Georgia State's requirements are: 2.75 GPA, GRE scores within the 50th percentle but anything under 280 combined are unlikely to be considered, three LOR, and a letter of interest. Am I good? I know it's too late now that I submitted my app, but wanted some feedback to rid the anxiety lol.
