University Of Chicago English, PhD (F16) Rejected via E-mail on 11 Feb 2016  A 11 Feb 2016 Referred to MAPH program... I think I will instead choose the option where I don't pay $50k for the pleasure of being rejected. University Of Chicago English, PhD (F16) Rejected via E-mail on 11 Feb 2016  A 11 Feb 2016 Referred to the MAPH program. No thanks. University Of Chicago English, PhD (F16) Rejected via E-mail on 11 Feb 2016 ♦ A 11 Feb 2016 Rejected from PhD program. "We would love to forward your application to the MAPH program . . ." nah, brah These three super recent additions had me (sympathetically) cracking up too.
@The Interdisciplinarian The waiting, waiting, waiting is so tough. I've no patience.

Interesting that's in the anonymous results section though. Now I'm imagining this applicant uploading that comment in the "supporting docs" section of his/her app to Cornell, and Cornell's reply:
    Dear sir/madam:
While your metrics and research interests align well with our institution's standards, your xenophobic comments do not. It is not our policy to admit internet trolls to the program. Unfortunately, we are rescinding our offer and accepting an international candidate in your place.
    Regards
    Cornell's DGS

Ok I'm done. Let's get back to congratulating people.

Here's hoping programs contact some of us today saying, "We love you and your research interests. Will you be our Valentine? For the next five years?"

I'm not really sure how to take this comment. Initially I hoped it was a dark joke about Trump's opinions, but on second thought, I'm not sure. The tone of this website normally seems so supportive, and this comment - if meant seriously - is troubling both here and in terms of how the admitted applicant views the academic world:

Cornell University English, PhD (F16) Accepted via E-mail on 12 Feb 2016  A 13 Feb 2016 POI, still unofficial. To American students who didn't get admission: try again after trump (if elected) lowers student visa numbers. That will help a lot. Good luck!

Good luck everyone! Today might be a big notification day for acceptances--Valentine's Day present, getting things off the plate before Presidents Day weekend for schools who get it off, etc.
So one thing I'm doing while waiting (other than drinking and complaining) is working on a novel. As Februgatory pain intensifies, I've noticed my protagonist is getting increasingly more neurotic, going to dive bars, exhibiting nervous behavior, having nightmares and the like. I'm not sure this project is providing the artistic distraction I need.

    Hello and thanks.
You're asking for Comp Lit or English? Mine is Comp Lit. Also, I reckon UT's decisions come in waves but if that is the case maybe you can write to them? Goodluck! = )

It's totally not a waste of time at all. Card making is a hobby I've always wanted to get into. I found out recently that people are using their card making skills to send seniors cards for Valentines day via Meals on Wheels. I can't think of many of my hobbies that: 1) are that creative 2) have the potential to help others 3) have such a wonderfully cute end result.

If you're into dark mysteries, I loved Broadchurch, The Fall, Wallander and (not quite so dark) Death Comes to Pemberley.
also @reddog sense8 was a good one. It totally grew on me over time.

Well, I'm in my mid 30s with two kids - current career path: SAHM. I only applied to one school because I couldn't ask my family to move again right now, so I've got one shot at being admitted this year. A rejection is going to hurt but since the days are ticking on, I'm trying to prepare myself. This thread/site is helping though - totally feeling the pressure from overly optimistic family, and @Foreveronward had the same thoughts about Monday and the working week meaning we might get news! Good luck to everyone, and it's nice not to be the only person over 30 applying (which is how the grad coordinator made me feel when I talked to her in September...). Also @BooksCoffeeBeards it was my birthday yesterday too - happy belated, and hope you had fun despite the waiting game!

I'm 32 here (will be 33 when I begin). Married with kid.
I think there's more of us over 30 than one would probably guess. I feel that age helps build the discipline necessary to begin a rigorous education. Sure, plenty of younger people can handle it, but I think many more older people can.

Tomorrow is Monday. That means committees might be meeting, application portals might be updated, and emails/letters could be sent. I'm so nervous. In part, I'm happy time is passing and we're (slowing) trudging towards the day(s?) of reckoning. The other side of my brain is still fiercely determined to sleep until March. I gave it my all and slept for twelve hours straight today. (4/10, would sort of recommend).

I feel like we should come up with alternate Valentine's Day plans depending on the news we get. I know I, for one, will be going out the day after V-Day to buy discounted chocolates and wine to later consume in copious amounts.
Related, I was talking to my 13-year-old neighbor about this whole process, and I likened it to having a crush on someone: "I like them, and I like to think they like me, but I don't know if they LIKE like me." As such, getting results around Valentine's Dy seems....oddly appropriate, if a bit darkly comic.

Ugh, I know what you mean!  Everyone, my parents, my grandmother, my fiancé's parents and so on, all keep saying "I'm sure you'll get in!"  My response is always to remind them how competitive these programs are, but they don't seem to think there's a chance I won't get in.  I'm terrified that I won't get into school because I really, really want to go to grad school this fall, but also because they'll all be so disappointed.  Hopefully that won't happen!
The only one who has said "It'll be okay if you don't" is my fiancé, and I'm not convinced that he completely believes it either.
