I would say do not turn down a Fulbright. It is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by the US Government (though recently it´s been diluted). It will open doors for you for the rest of your life. I was a Fulbrighter in 2012, and I´m still receiving opportunities (many more than I can take advantage of) because of it.

I can see why UCSC responded the way they did. Linguistics isn't at all user-friendly; you'd be surprised how much background knowledge and understanding you need just to get through most Language papers. Even still, there's a big gap between understanding what's going on in a paper and understanding it well enough to be insightful about it. If you can clear that gap, then you may be capable of doing good research. Any grad program will want to see that you're somewhere towards the end of that sequence, or at least that you're clearly getting there.

I'm currently a High School foreign language teacher and I'm going to grad school in the fall for Higher Ed Administration.  However, I completely understand your interest in teaching English as a foreign language.  I looked into grad programs for that, too, but ultimately, felt that a masters was not necessary to get into the field at first.  There are so many certification courses you can take over a few weeks or a summer, and then if you get hired by a school, they might help you pay for a masters down the line.
I think you should continue on with your plans of getting your masters in psych, as you may be able to take classes related to teaching, learning, foreign language acquisition, developmental psych, etc.  Then you can always do an initial ESL certification over a summer and then have both credentials when you go out looking for jobs.
That's my two cents, anyway! Best of luck

Unless you've been offered a position, I wouldn't count on it. As for qualifications for being a TA, it can range from having a pulse to being able to teach the class of you had to.

First of all, congratulations on both acceptances!
So I totally understand why Indiana does not sound appealing. I will say that I went to undergrad at IU, and it is a BEAUTIFUL campus and a wonderful town.  It's truly a gem within Indiana. Im biased of course, but check out other forums where IUB is discussed and you will find similar opinions. There is a surprising amount of fun events that go on, and there's generally lots to do within the city. It's also an hour from Indy.
With that being said, the whole state of Colorado is of course beautiful, it's a more progressive state, you know people there, and it's just generally better haha. But if IU has the better program and will save you a significant amount of money (living will be much more affordable, too), I would definitely consider IU. Bloomington is more than tolerable

Couple of thoughts - that's a great road trip, why not hook it on the back of a U-Haul as keawood suggests?

Rather than shipping it through a company, it might be cheaper to have a friend/parent drive it up & then buy them a one-way ticket back to L.A.

If the car is not super nice/new, might be cheaper to sell it in L.A., and then buy an equivalent car in Seattle.

@charlemagne88, are you saying that Indiana has better academic support and can support your passion but that you wouldn't be able to get a job post MA if you went there? That doesn't really make sense to me. If you're able to grow and thrive academically and pursue what you're interested in, you should be making yourself competitive for jobs in the process...

If you aren't confident you could get a job with a degree from Indiana then I don't understand why it has an advantage in your mind. Following your passion is great, but eventually you're going to want to be able to put dinner on the table. That aside, passions change. Your current interests are based on fairly minimal exposure to the field through an undergraduate degree. You are likely to be exposed to new ideas in grad school and you might decide to follow one of them; this is also true for the MA to PhD transition, so keep that in mind. And finally, you've already committed to another school, so we really shouldn't be having this conversation at all.

You could always start a new thread if you think on one will see this one...
Here are some questions to think of as a first step: is this a Masters or a PhD? If it's a Masters, are you planning to apply for a PhD after, and is it a one-year or a two-year program? Did you get to visit one or both places? Did you meet your potential advisors?
I will be the first to say that location is important (to me), but there are other factors that would weigh in on my decision, too.

I'm in the same boat there Patti. Now all my family members keep calling and asking if i've heard anything yet. I'm feeling pretty ashamed everytime they call and I have a new rejection to tell them about. I get why getting into grad school is so hard/competitive, but sometimes I just wish they admitted everybody.

BTW, not to be a D**k or anything, but that Chris guy can't really know what it's like for us peons that only have rejections and no acceptance letters yet. -I mean, our entire futures are riding on the whim of several committee members whom we've never even met. The stress is immense and people like Chris who already have 7 yeses sitting on their high horse saying grad school isn't as great as it's cut out to be make me sick. I know you're just trying to make us feel better, but it doesn't really help. Just makes me realize that there are people out there who are already lucky enough to have heard back from their programs, which makes me sweat that much more.

I basically asked in mine whether there was anything they were missing from me, and whether I should expect a decision soon. I put the burden as heavily on myself as I could, to not sound pushy.
It's definitely an awkward email to send!

Waiting for any notification whatsoever from three programs and on the waitlist for a fourth.  I think If I wasn't waitlisted at the top ranked school to which I applied, I wouldn't be filled with this dangerous sense of false hope of being on some kind of mythical "secret waitlist."  Also one program I applied to had some kind of hiccup with their admissions this year, has sent out no rejections at all, and doesn't expect to send out any other notifications of any kind until much closer to April 15th.  Thankfully this should all be over in a couple weeks, so I can get on with my life.

It's definitely acceptable at this point to email them if you haven't heard anything back. No peep at all could be a waist list as well- NC state told me I had about a 50/50 shot of whether I'll get a funded offer, but only after I sent an email asking about my application status.
Of course, five other schools also didn't even reply to my emails...I guess there's only so much you can do. And yeah, the lack of any response this late sucks with how much applications cost!

What would I do? I'd finish those two classes. However my next choice would be to contact the admissions committee...but like you said they accepted you with the understanding that you would have a master's degree, so don't be too surprised if they say you need to finish those classes. I don't think it would come across as lazy to ask though.

Personally, I'd take the full ride without a second thought. But I don't know what your financial situation is.
I will say that the prestige of a school matters less than people tend to think (but this can depend on what field you're going into). As long as you're confident you'll still have decent career opportunities in the future, I'd go with the funded option.

charlemagne88 reacted to Neist in Unfunded Masters (Yale, JHU) as a leverage for a Top PhD 1-2 years down the road
I wouldn't know precisely, but I imagine there's no reason why anyone would know whether you were funded or not on once you graduate. The one obvious disadvantage that I can think of about lack of funding is that you'll probably be unable to experience some things funded students might, like TA-ships. Depending on what you're long-term plans are, this might or might not matter.
