If you are interested in sharing your responses, please submit below! I have left the responses able to edit as I know not all interviews have finished, so if you want to fill out now based on how you feel, you can always go back and edit after you've completed interviews. I will share the results once there are a decent amount of responses. Please be honest, but no trash talking programs (or individuals within the program!), I will delete those responses. It is completely anonymous though! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfveStRW-jk2FIeM0qE6w9L7gxkTFrdCP9KuZJwnjZjG1wZOA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Just got offered an interview at Arizona! They are only interviewing Arizona residents until after Match. At which point, they’ll offer additional interviews. I’m so excited!

From what I've seen online, they haven't yet applied for accreditation and therefore cannot take students. They have information up and an article said they had plans to take their first class for Fall 2018, but they aren't active and haven't seen submitted to the board to get accreditation. Their timeline is likely pushed back for one reason or another.

I've heard it's also to get a general idea of what things are important to you in schools without flat out asking. If you applied to all midwest schools and just one west coast school, the west coast school may be able to deduce that they aren't a top choice based on the location. Or if you applied to programs that all take 7-8 students, and are interviewing where they only have 4 spots, they may figure that out too. But, of course if you are at midwest school and applied to midwest schools then they can see that their location was something you were interested in and so forth.

Almost ALL school provide feedback, even without interviewing, just based on your application. I didn't interview anywhere last year; however, I received feedback from all but 1 of the programs I applied too. This year, I noticed that one program stated in my rejection letter that they can't give personalized feedback due to the large amounts of applicants... As the field becomes more known and more popular, I'm sure programs will be leaning towards only personalized feedback for those they interview, but not just yet. So anyone who doesn't get accepted this year should still definitely reach out in May!

I was thinking 4 or 5.. I had been planning to turn down an interview from CSU when I thought I was going to get one from Utah, but that's not the case anymore. As long as they fit my schedule/I can get time off, I will accept any additional interviews I may receive.

Two rejections, one day, get at me! I guess the brightside is that tomorrow is Valentine's Day, which means the day after is 50% off chocolate day....

I called and Stefanie, the executive secretary, stated that she sent out both all the interviews and all the rejections. So any of us that haven't heard back are on the waitlist somewhere in between. She said we'd hear by next week or the week after at the latest.... So more waiting, BUT we aren't out of the running yet.

Im in the same boat a start you as are a few other gradcafe users. However, I’m assuming I’m waitlisted for an interview. Last year, I received my rejection the same day and many rejections went out yesterday as well. Someone said they were asked to turn in their preferences ASAP so that any unfilled spots could be offered to waitlisters. I’m planning to call to confirm

Just depends on how the offer arrived. The first I got asked to email (the director) back with my preferences. The other asked me to use a link to select, and the other had me log back into the application portal and select my date that way. But for example, I wouldn’t email the program director to accept if a link was sent. They have access to the results and can see who is supposed to be there what day. After that, my duties are to book travel, accommodation, and show up.

I don't think this means they AREN'T going to invite out of state residents.. It's just that they aren't going to invite until closer to match day or even after... or possibly only invite those who end up on the unmatched list, who knows at this point.

This ^ the director even half pointed out the need for GCs in Arizona when I emailed him about something else. I'm sure the fact I'm from here contributed in some part to getting an interview. I live in Tucson and can think of 3 practicing GCs who also live here.. None of which are in pediatrics or adult, so the full spectrum of specialties isn't even represented. And Tucson is by no means a small city, but it is obvious there is a "workforce need" and parts of the area could definitely be considered underserved. It sucks, but programs have to have some tie breakers between applicants somehow. I'm 90% sure Arkansas gives preference to AR residents, does that seem fair? Maybe not, but it's what they choose to do and have every right to as long as they aren't blatantly discriminating someone for other issues such as race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

On their website it says the last day to hear about interviews is 2/16. When I last reached out a couple weeks ago it definitely appeared that they were still going through applications. They also still have interview spots available on the booking link.

10-15 patients is A LOT in all honesty.. Most applicants get maybe a day or two tops of shadowing, which I'd assume is around 4-7 patients. I've had three days, which only counts out to 5 appointments, but I spent 60 hours volunteering/doing GCA work around the office for two GCs. The advocacy may be an issue. The crisis text line as someone mentioned early is flexible and can be done from home if you don't have too much time you can spare for other options. Or 7 Tea Cups which is a website. Same idea. Northwestern is a week long, maybe you have enough time off to make that work? But otherwise your current job is good. And yes, May is the best bet. Now until Match day (and a little after), programs are swamped with interviews, selecting applicants, getting acceptance information put together and other behind the scene administration stuff we don't fully know about. May is when they start to die down a bit and the best time to ask. They may get you the feedback right then or tell you they'll be in contact at a later time if they are still busy.

Where do you think your application was lacking? That's the biggest area to focus on. Of course come May, reach out for feedback. But I knew going into getting feedback last year where my issues were (no GC experience, some low prereq grades, okay GPA, and no "traditional" advocacy experience). It's best to start NOW with getting things you already think are a weakness in order (I started working on the GC experience in February last year). Once your narrow down what you think, the feedback from programs is best used to compare against your own list and then go from there. When the school's echoed my thoughts, it helped to solidify that the steps I was taking to improve were indeed the right ones. ALSO, something I wish I did but didn't, apply to the GC internships!! There's Northwestern, Iowa, Baylor, UT, Cinci and more. Most applications are open now and close likely around March. That's a GREAT way to get some more GC experience and looks very good on applications. Also, turn your attention to jobs too. Find a GCA position, advocacy position, lab tech, or in a related health care field will definitely boost your app as well.

Definitely a good idea! It really doesn't hurt CSU sent invites out in March last year. Denver has sent some (not sure if they sent all?) and sent some rejections as well. I haven't seen anything on Hopkins yet, and Baylor sent interviews out today as well. Not sure if they are doing rolling or not. Fingers crossed for you!

Asked Arizona director about interviews and this is what she sent: Since we will not have accreditation prior to the match, we plan to interview students from AZ in March (since they are local) All others will have to wait until after the match. We hope to have access to the unmatched list depending on when we get accreditation. This means that if you are in the match (which everyone I spoke to is), you will not be able to select AZ and if other programs match with you, you are obligated to attend. I know that puts those who would like to come here in the fall in an awkward situation, but we cannot accept anyone until we have accreditation. I'm curios to why she seems so certain that accreditation won't happen before Match when Baylor and KGI just got theirs.. But Arizona did submit 3 months after AND another program submitted before them. If anyone is close by, applied, and DOESN'T have interviews, I bet it would be a good idea to reach out and reiterate your interests in the program. The above seems like they will only interview in-state students, even if they DO have interviews for programs in the Match whereas out of state will be interviewed AFTER they receive accreditation.. (likely later March or early April?)

I emailed Baylor about interview dates in April as the ones available weren’t the best for me. The director replied that there were no April dates and that they were all on the application portal and “filling up fast”. It looks like they sent all their invites at once. They may have a short wait list, but I’m not certain.

Based on conversations myself and another applicant had with the UT coordinator, their interviews were NOT given out on a rolling basis. And we would be hearing back no later than February 15th on our application decision (which she did not confirm or deny either way). Based on that, I'm definitely expecting a rejection some time soon

Thankfully for Arizona, I live in town. So only need to worry about taking work off. Baylor is another story, but I’d love to be in Houston, so I’d say it’s worth it for me

When Arizona was my top choice, it was weird. I ended up deciding to rank wherever I had Interviews and if I didn’t get in that way it would be a sign that Arizona was where I was supposed to go. Thankfully my choices changed and it’s not as hard if a decision now
