  1. Yeah, I think KGI and Baylor have a good chance of getting accrediation by then. Arizona may just barely miss it. If so, they'll be participating in the second match with applicants who interviewed with them. (So if you still participate in match and for some reason, don't get in, there's still hope lol). And I'd assume all of them will do the same IF they don't get accredited in time
  2. Would be cool to see a genetic counseling spread too! Wish I was cool enough to know enough to put one together myself
  3. Certain schools do have preferences on this. For example, UAMS stated they prefer Arkansas residents over out of state students. I think Augustana will choose a candidate from a rural/underrepresented location if they are deciding between two similar applicants. For the most part though, I don’t think it matters.
  4. Welcome and congrats on your interviews! You can look through the results page to see if anyone has posted on these schools here. However, I haven't seen anyone mention any of these schools in regards to interview invites or rejections yet.
  5. If I get accepted, my date is dependent on my lease. I likely will be moving around the beginning of August as my lease ends the end of July. I really don't want to pay rent for two places. However, I would like like to take another trip out to go look at places to live and get that all lined up before my actual departure date.
  6. I submitted mine 12/27. I know they’re still reviewing applications and on the website it says the last day to receive an interview is 2/16. On the date selector, there are two additional dates added for interviews compared to what I was offered (two of the three dates I had available are full). Hope that helps some.
  7. Got a response from the program coordinator at UT for all those still email-less from them: “I’ve been told that you should hear from the Program by next week & the 15th by the latest!” Now we wait
  8. Congrats! They’re my top choice, but haven’t received anything so a little bummed.
  9. Gosh, at this point I'd take some rejections because I haven't heard from anyone after my two interviews. I know based on last year's results, I likely won't hear anything until mid-February. Yet... that doesn't help the anxiety either way.
  10. I can answer both of these: In Biochem there currently and I think it’s easier than my previous Biochem class. I currently have an A and received a C in a previous Biochem class. Manageable work load each week, teacher is very responsive and gives out extra credit like candy. UAMS: I didn’t have a class and sent in writing samples from previous work experiences. She approved and “exempted” me from the requirement. Feel free to reach out to the program and the program director could give you some resources for courses that meet their guidelines if you don’t have samples.
  11. I basically be started all my persona statements flat out telling everyone I was a secondtike applicant. Every school I applied to before obviously would have known, but I didn’t hide it from the three new ones I applied to. So far it’s worked favorably. I have an interview with a school I previously applied to and then one with a new school I applied to. I have yet to hear from the other 6, so we’ll see
  12. I'd say all 48 likely have equal chance or are put in broad arrangements of "highly like", "like", "interested", etc. But interviews are more heavily weighed than your application. So you may be going in as just interested but bounce up to "highly liked" based on how you interact/perform then.
  13. Utah stated 2/12 on the website for when interviews will be sent. I’m not sure about Colorado.
  14. I'd love any info you have on Baylor. I'm pretty interested in them!
  15. One of the best places to keep track is the member list on the AGCPD site: https://agcpd.org/ProgramDirectory.aspx The associated members are those closer to accreditation/already started the process; the affiliated members seem to be those interested/have rotations through their hospital etc/in the planning phase (for example UConn and UCLA are both affiliated members). Program start up times vary a lot, previously it was 6-8 months, but with a new policy ACGC put into place, the time line is closer to 8-12 months (these times are not including all preparation work programs have to do before they put in for accreditation). They will only review 3 schools/quarter (or semester I can't remember) which limits how many can get through. This doesn't include them also having to re-new accreditations for current programs.
  16. I found this article on Boise's prospective program particularly interesting: https://arbiteronline.com/nations-first-fully-online-masters-in-genetic-counseling-to-be-offered-at-boise-state/ I'm not sure I'd love a fully online program, but I do see them trying to fill a gap in accessibility for certain students. Anyone have any thoughts? Even, Bay Path's hybrid program was considered unique/risque, so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
  17. Wonderful idea @HSGC2017! Looking forward to this.
  18. Congrats! Do you know what day you're going, has it been confirmed? Maybe we have the same interview day?
  19. There was someone last cycle who got in and currently goes to LIU Post. Not sure if they still come on here, but you could always go find out who and message them if you have specific questions
  20. If the application has an area to include your Graduate GPA, then I’d say go for it! Otherwise, I can understand your concern and it might not be worth the money or stress of filling out a last minute application.
  21. If we're being honest, my natural science GPA is around a 2.5 (likely go up to a 2.6 once I finish my biochem class) and my cumulative is a 3.36 and I got an interview. And from feedback last year, the did recommend retaking biochem etc, but that wasn't the main issue in my application for them.
  22. I took that comment as they were a GC intern and were shocked they didn’t get an interview based on that. Quoted the wrong comment but yeah I’m seconding Rosie lol
  23. I got a call from a Tucson number, more importantly a number that coincides with a UofArizona number (I used to work on campus so I know the middle 3 digits) and I let it go to voicemail cuz I'm at work all the while freaking out that it could be an interview invite. Can we talk about how upset I was that it was automated message from the new football coach. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Send a freaking email man. I don't wanna hear your little rally to fill the stadium and how "excited' you are to be here
  24. I applied to a back up program last year (and didn’t end up going for a variety’s of reasons, such as not being able to work for the year, possibly not finishing the course work in a year, waste money on a degree I was only half interested in, etc.). In the end I decided just to take classes where I needed to boost my grades (mainly Biochem) and courses that showed me gaining more experience (UCincinnati’s neurogenetics course). However, the program I did apply to (and get accepted) was UofArizona’s Cellular and Molecular Biology program. It is typically a 2 year program but there’s is a track where students can apply who want to go to medical school and get automatic acceptance to UofA’s med school. I went with the normal track because you CAN finish in a year (the med school track is for under represented students also/not tied 1 med school applications but have promise), you just have to work at it. Also, this department is where Arizona’s new GC program is based out of so you would be taking some courses that the GC students would take (and would likely have them in class with you! Along with the CMM students). Overall the program has a lot of support and I really think it would’ve helped me bolster my app had I been able to justify the money + the reality of not making money or been okay with doing it in the normal two years so I could have worked also.
