  1. What date are you going? Congrats!
  2. I WISH it was like that, but I got rejected from every school last year too, but I did receive several courtesy emails saying they were reviewing my app.
  3. Middlesex (can’t temember author) is really good. Not super into genetics but does go over it briefly to explain how intersex can arise. And I’m currently reading The Spirit Catches You and then You Fall Down, per recommendation of Arizona’s program director. It’s about a little girl with a rare form of epilepsy and the clash of her culture (they’re from a small ethnic group in Laos) and the American medical culture. Definitely a good read for anyone interested in underserved populations. I’m very impressed so far.
  4. I started a new position in January and can’t technically take off until early April ? so I’m very stressed. I just barely got my two interviews off as I mentioned I had prior vacation plans (legit flying into Sioux Falls Friday at 10a and leaving that night at 8pm...). But anymore in March and I’m not sure what I’m doing to do.. I’m hopefully changing to working four 10s soon with Monday’s off which might fix any problems that could arise IF Interviews are Monday’s...
  5. I'm in this boat too. I'd be happy to attend any of the schools I applied to, but there's definitely a preferred four over the other four. Even then, I'm trying not to get my hopes up in case I get rejections from those four and I really won't know how I feel until I attend my interviews anyway.
  6. CSUStan does the same thing, but it's like info for verifying residency and some other unnecessary things... Like come on... that can wait..
  7. I'm shocked they are giving you less than two weeks to plan your trip and get out there but congrats!
  8. Ohh that's likely the case. I didn't get the email, but I definitely put my Match ID in the personal statement section.
  9. For those of you who haven't heard from Augustana yet, don't fret! I emailed the program director asking about the likelihood any additional interview dates might open up (the days available aren't the easiest for me to get off) and he responded with this: "As our application window does not close until February 5, the ASGCGP expects to continue to receive and review applications from well-qualified candidates who we would like to interview. (In fact, at this point in time we are still reviewing some really good applications that came in weeks ago.) We cannot, at this time, accurately predict how many applicants may fall into this category, nor can we guarantee additional interview slots. It is likely we will open more slots on additional days, but, if we do, we will simultaneously be inviting more applicants to interview. .... If so, would likely be in March." Of the three days listed on where you can sign up for interview slots, one day looks completely full, another is half full and the third still has spots for both options (morning and afternoon interviews). Based on last years numbers of interviewing around 50 applicants, I'd say they still have at least half of their interview slots open plus as he mentioned, they could be opening up more dates in the future. Also, I am thoroughly impressed because the director shows obvious knowledge of my application last year and mentioned what a great job I had done at making it even stronger this year, commented on Arizona's need for GCs, and then he ended the email with "Pack a coat ;-)". Feels nice to actually "stand out" as a person and not be just another application. Really shows that they truly DO take a holistic review of applications.
  10. Check the results page to see the general idea of when invites go out first. If it’s too a wide range, then go ahead and email the committees! McGill rejects were late February last year and Toronto sent rejections early March according to the results page. Past that I’m not too sure.
  11. I got my rejection 2/13 last year.
  12. If I took it for “redo/replacement” at my school then no. Otherwise yes. And def still apply they’re giving interviews out till February 16th!
  13. I submitted around Christmas Day? I believe the 27th to be exact
  14. I just got an interview from Augustana. I'm shocked and what a great birthday present!!
  15. Maybe not a make it or break it cycle, but if I don't get in this cycle, I likely won't reapply right away. Might take a year or two off to just do me and work full time and try to utilize my undergraduate degree to its full ability. And after 2 or so years, if I still have the desire and means to pursue a GC degree, I think I'd apply again.
  16. I can't help you @fortysixand2, but I feel your pain. If I get invited to Baylor and UT, I'm hoping I can work it out so they line up and I only have to make one trip too.
  17. I'll add: Arizona - Late Jan - ? UAMS - Already heard-February - Feb 22, 26, 28 Baylor - Feb -? Utah - Feb 12 - March 12- April 6th Augustana - Feb 16 - Late Feb to Mid March UCI - Late Feb - ? CSUStan - Early March - ? Some of those notification dates are just based off last years results
  18. I have a countdown app on my phone and just saw that Match Day is 100 days away. That just got real
  19. This is exactly how I feel as a second year applicant. I’ve done a decent amount, improved my app, but I’m still not confident. Wouldn’t even say I’m for sure getting in this cycle. I have this thought in my mind that I’ll only get two interviews out of the 8 schools (which I’d still be happy about) and how I’m going to have to super sell myself to get in. I can’t imagine doing this process a third time. I also think a majority of this forum (at least the active posters) are re-applicants which is reassuring to not feel like the only one.
  20. Right hand corner where your username is. Click the dropdown and it's under account settings. From there it's the signature button. Once you add, it'll show up under your post like ours does
  21. I took their Neurogenetics class and loved it! Completely self paced and only had a final at the end. I got a very high B, and would highly recommend for anyone who wants a decently easily class that is directly applicable.
  22. I'd put myself into this category. Overall, I have a decent GPA, 3.36. But my major/science GPA is only a 2.68 with it possibly getting up to around a 2.78 or so with my biochem (assuming I get an A)/neurogenetics class factored in. So, I do really think that played a big factor last year (as both my GPAs were even lower than now). Most schools told me to focus on pre-reqs for anything I might retake. They didn't care too much about ochem or any of my bio classes instead pushed me towards biochem as that combines both. Idk what else to offer pass that. I didn't receive a single interview last year, and I already have one (albeit, this school has a lower minimum GPA they accept, but still). Overall, I think what helped more was the amount of GC experience/exposure I got in the past months. I applied having never shadowed a GC to now having 60 direct hands-on hours with them.
  23. Oh, then I must have had the date down wrong on my old spreadsheet! Whoops, I was contacted by them around the same time as you last year. Fingers crossed that you're right! I just submitted my last app (UCI lol) and I'm so relieved. At least my biochem class just started, so I'll have that to distract me a little bit..
  24. Another way I got a rough idea of when schools would be contacting us is through the Results page here. As others mentioned, this might not be the most accurate anymore with Match and schools possibly (hopefully) moving up contact times/interview dates, but it gives a rough idea. For UCI for example, I saw contact about interviews in late February/early March (with the early contact mid February). I'd also note that of all schools that I applied to this year versus last year, UCI actually pushed BACK their app deadline from January 1st to the 15th, so that may play a factor for interview dates this year. CSU has the same timeline of late February to early March, though earliest contact looks around February 21st.
  25. Utah (February 12th) and Augustana (February 16th "last day for students to receive interviews") both have exact dates, others are more broad, like Arizona states late January for notification. If you go look around the websites for schools you've applied to, you can typically find this (if available) in the FAQs, on the Admission page, or some have admission timeline pages).
