I chose hunter. Still don't think that fordham (or nyu/columbia) degree holds more weight. Hunter definately has a very large emphasize on social justice over clinical practice but one really gains experience from their fieldwork and you can access agencies equally.

HunterGirl started following HUNTER MSW and Fordham vs Hunter MSW program?

I would also recommend applying to Hunter, the GRE is not required and it is in NYC and field placements are comparable to NYU/Columbia

Is Psychology GRE helpful for applying to M.S.W programs?
HunterGirl replied to radkat's topic in Psychology Forum
I think it isn't so needed, unless you have weak grades. Do you have enough liberal art credits? That might be more crucial then the GRE.- 2 replies

Acceptance Criteria Hunter Social Work
HunterGirl replied to livenlaf's topic in Social Workers Forum
I thankfully had a GPA on the higher end, i don't know the minimum GPA. i didn't have explicit experience, just enough similar things - volunteering with special needs, hospitals, etc a lot of childcare experience and a bit of admin experience at a mental health facility. @malkie Yes, i am planning- 8 replies

I believe that it is fairly common practice as well. Thank you very much. Very much appreciate your experience. You should have much success at UMichigan

Just curiosity, why do you feel the SAT/ACT is so crucial? I feel like it will just add time that will be wasted, if an individual can just go to community and transfer into a BA or BSW level program. Did you take the SAT/ACT in this process? How long was your CC--> MSW pathway/ so far

I have recently been in discussion with an individual in their mid 20's who has not yet taken any college level course. They want to go into the social work field and gain a LCSW. I know that it is a long haul at this point, but I want to try to recommend the most logical and time efficient plan of action. Has anyone had experience going from the Associates to the BSW to the MSW. When an individual has their BSW, will having an associates impact their acceptance into the MSW Advanced/ 1 year programs? They have not yet taken the SATs/ACT's hence I recommended that they begin in a community college. Any one have any insights?

It took a week or two to get the letter in the mail. I would be prepared to send out all the accompanying material as soon as you can ( Deposit and so on)

I am coming from the same angle, and often times it seems that Hunter comes across as more weight then Fordham. I was made aware of Hunter's prestige prior to even knowing about Fordham offering a MSW program. I think if you were getting the Lehman or College of Staten Island MSWs, then the CUNY degree is looked as weaker then Fordham.
