  1. Congrats!! I applied to the 20-month program at Michigan on November 28. I'll be checking my email ferociously now!
  2. Ultimately I'd love to do a mix between micro and macro social work. That's one of the main reasons that Columbia appeals to me so much--they have a method called Advanced Generalist Practice and Programming that's like a mezzo blend that sounds perfect to me! They also have a micro method and two more macro/policy methods. And within your chosen method you can choose one of seven different areas of concentration such as school social work, aging population, children youth and families, etc. I think the one I want to focus on is Contemporary Social Issues
  3. I haven't finished applying yet but when I do, I'll have spent $1100-1200 just on applications (I'm insane and applying to 17 schools...) Plust $205 for the GRE (which only ONE school I'm applying to requires, and they only care about the analytical writing section.) So total, that's $1305-1405 (I'm waiting to see if I'm eligible for a fee waiver for one of my apps.)

  5. My top choice school, by far, is Columbia. Their program is just so broad and customizable, and I really love NYC! They are super expensive though so financial aid will be a factor, if I get admitted. My other top choices are probably Michigan, Denver, and Boston. I've lived in California my entire life so I'd really like to explore a new place for a couple years! And they all have great programs. I'm applying to so many because all of my top choices are so prestigious, and I wanted backup options. Plus, with financial aid being a big factor, I wanted to see how many institutions I could get into and what kind of scholarships I can get. That way I have (hopefully) at least a handful of admittances and therefore a few good options to choose from. In hindsight I probably should have cut it down to 10 schools, but such is life! Are you applying to any other schools?
  6. Not yet! I'm applying to 17 schools total (because I'm insane, I guess! :P) and UConn has one of the later deadlines. I have most of my application filled out, I just need to upload my essays and wait for one more LOR. That's where I'm at with all the apps I have left. Have you submitted yours?
  7. Hello, I am applying to UConn's MSW program, though it's not one of my top choice schools.
  8. Wow, I didn't realize admissions decisions would start rolling in so early! Has anyone else heard from any schools yet? I'm still in the process of applying (17 schools is no joke) and haven't heard back from the six I've applied to thus far, yet.
  9. I'm applying to 17 MSW programs. Probably overkill, I know, but I want as much of a chance of getting in somewhere as possible. I'm applying to 6 schools in my home state of California: Berkeley, SDSU, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach, San Francisco State, and UCLA. I'm also applying to University of Washington, Portland State University, Denver University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, Boston University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Michigan, Columbia, NYU, and University of Connecticut. Good luck to you all!
  10. Hello, I'm applying to MSW programs right now and I had a question about my transcripts. I received my bachelor of arts degree in 2013, and then took a couple years off. I then attended a local community college for just a few courses to get a letter of rec for my grad school applications. My question is, when submitting the transcripts for the community college, do they need to reflect that I stopped taking classes? Put another way: since I'm not receiving any sort of degree from this school, do I need to officially file any forms or "drop out" of the school so that the transcript doesn't just look incomplete? Or if I submit a transcript now with just those few courses, will that suffice for the admissions committee? My UCSD transcripts show that I was awarded my BA so it'll be clear I have a bachelor's degree. Thanks!
  11. Hello everyone! I'm new to the forums but I've been browsing and there's a lot of useful information! I'll be applying to MSW programs in this upcoming application period and I'm worried about my amount of experience. My grades are pretty good and I have some good letters of rec accounted for already. I am a strong writer so I'm confident my admissions essays and personal statements will be of quality. But I haven't done a lot of volunteering (looking to rectify that ASAP.) However, I have two and a half years of experience (three by the time I apply) working with kids in the daycare at a gym, and I plan on focusing on child and family concentrations for my degree. So I was wondering: For everyone who has been accepted to MSW programs already, how much relevant experience did you have, and which schools did you get into? This will help ease some of my anxiety, lol. (I've seen only one or two threads on the same topic and they weren't super recent. But if I missed one and this is repetitive then I apologize.) Thanks in advance for your help!
