  1. saying the same thing about Hopkins hahaha is anybody stalking the DGS of their dream school on social media to see where they are and try to analyze their activity to see if they still could be reviewing apps? * shame *
  2. holy cow!!! that's fantastic! alf mabrook!!! (a thousand congratulations!!!!) <3 <3
  3. hahahaha and that's like one day after the waiting started!! i feel you! but you'll do great! cz you are great! otherwise, they are not great for you! keep the faith <3
  4. It is way beyond me why this GRE literature subject test is indicative, in any way and to any extent, of one's success in PhD programs. The absurdity of this exam is funny. Don't even get me started on the general GRE haha. I have very good scores in both, but I firmly believe these tests are completely irrelevant, and offensive. I had to take the subject Test myself in October 2016, and I had been away from academia for more than 5 years. Even my MA courses had nothing to do with the canon work - the predominant, if not only material covered. Also, my research interests are not at all intersecting with the material covered by this test. And I had a very demanding full-time job in advertising. This, coupled with the long time away from the "field", were detrimental in terms of time allocated to study and prepare. I scored pretty decently, but I still think I wouldn't want to work with any university that uses this exam as a valid caliber. Whether or not a score makes it or breaks, I feel sorry that it is even used by top universities that should focus on generative intellect, rigorous proactive research and original thinking (which represents the exact opposite of everything the GRE Subject Test). Keep the faith guys! And remember that if a uni does not take you because of that exam, it means you're better off without that uni!!!
  5. awesome stuff!!! maybe we'll bump into each other if you guys take the Pitt offer and I the CMU offer going there for a visit early March. they're really close to each other right? Keep the faith guys!
  6. Mabrook!!! (Congratulations!!!!) I am loving the vibes and the news here. I am really happy for each and everyone of you * moment * Keep the faith guys!! NYU are still awfully quiet....maybe it's "the deep breath before the plunge* in Gandalf's words. <3 <3
  7. hehehehe - thank you, and I do hope you're right about Mcgill! let's hope it works out for you!! best of luck!! and yes, NYU are a very good match, although CMU might as well be the best fit for me so far. What's even more frustrating is that I am coming to the USA from Lebanon, and I will need to know if there would be a potential campus visit from NYU too. I need to plan accordingly !! #third_world_problem
  8. McGill rejection came in! long shot indeed, and congrats to everyone who got in!!!!! be proud!! on another paranoid note, it is 13:00 Beirut Time, which means some DGS in New York or Baltimore is waking up... NYU are awfully quiet!!!!!!!!
  9. Awesome!!! that's amazeballs!! it's David Shumway's school lol happy for you!! keep the faith
  10. AAAHHH this is awesome!! Congrats!! or MABROUK!! - in Lebanese Arabic on another note, where on earth is NYU??
  11. Holy cow. and it's a phone call; not via E-mail or something. yes yes it is always early in the day somewhere, just like it's always happy hour. it's 5:30 PM here - anybody care to join?
  12. hahahahaha no news is good news! that's what I keep telling myself regarding JHU and NYU - i am drowning myself in the Nile river right now.
  13. Hehehe, I did I did - but I am planning my flight for the campus visits and I already took some days off. I need to know if I should take more! Same goes for NW and NYU. I actually just saw from last year's results that some admissions and rejections did come in waves - I just need an answer, and congrats to everyone!!!! <3
  14. Is it possible we'll be receiving another round of Hopkins decisions?? - i am hoping there are more acceptances coming our way. please? it's 4 PM here, and I am imagining what it's like for the adcom there at 9 AM...maybe they are having breakfast now..maybe they are brushing their teeth...

  17. JHU are out!!!!! who are the luck three so far?
  18. I was jogging when I received a phone call. Equal breaths were already a challenge. But i sprinted afterwards!! - then I had a subway footlong...or three...
  19. Awesome! and congrats!!!! I am guessing it is not accurate at all then
  20. My timezone is EST + 7. Sometimes I sleep with the phone on my face.
  21. anyone applying for the PhD in LCS at Carnegie Mellon? I was able to access my application for the first time in more than a month - which means they must have activated the system to read our materials. And the Recommendation Letters section was Last Modified today!! I am sure it means they are reading our applications as we speak. One of the best fits, but most selective for sure. Hope it works out for all of you!! <3
  22. I am sorry if this has been asked before, but what does one do when s/he is invited to two different co-terminous campus visits? I am an international student and I would need to fly out evidently. Are we to be honest with the departments and tell them, in order to reduce their expenses?
  23. I swear the idea has crossed my mind. I am refreshing the NYU application portal every -1 second. It's dire. And I keep looking at the same (not so) stupid typos in my SOP.
  24. Thank you for this - I remain undecided about Binghamton but its placement of PhD students is not that encouraging.
