  1. When they say English, do they also mean Cultural Studies? and what about program ranking (not specialty ranking), and not department ranking? are those the same thing? I am asking because the LCS program at Carnegie Mellon is part of the English department - which is, as far as I know, a very very good department (and yet, it is nowhere near where i believe it supposed to be). Does the 51st position sound fair? and even if it did, would it mean that all programs within the department are subsequently ranked 51st? sorry for the tons of questions, but i do believe they are valid (although ranking, for me, is the last thing I would consider in my decision making. 3. indeed! being torn between good programs is already overwhelming. i made it a point to visit all campuses - took a long while, unpaid days off, from Lebanon to the USA where I stayed for 4 weeks everyone is so kind and warm and lovely and friendly and I feel guilty already - although i have not made my choice!! ahhh!! congrats to everyone - and sorry for lurking; i was away and just came back from all the visits keep the faith guys!!
  4. Hey guys! sorry for the delay, I was away in the USA! NW accepted me and I went for a visit - quite lovely actually. So for now, I ma torn between three programs (this is actually the first 1st world problem I've ever had, and I hate that I am coming one of those snobby people haha) This said, I am back, and the faith is back. KTF everyone, and I do hope you're all happy with ur results. If they didn't let you in, you're better off without them!! <3 <3
  5. hehehe from CMU and PSU yes, a long time ago! I shared the news here. What about you? You going to CMU too??? Hopkins and McGill rejected me - waiting on NYU (though no really), and NW (Performance Studies)
  6. hey! they should have sent you the itinerary - i got mine we should check in at Baker Hall no later than 9 am on Wednesday - and the whole thing lasts til 7 pm. they also sent out two surveys for the hotel reservation and seminars we'd like to attend! PM me and send me ur number if you'd like; I got a US line! lol; we can keep in touch till then! I am in State College for now but will be going to Pitt by bus tomorrow evening
  7. hey @udeben this thread is only for acceptances in Literature, Rhetoric and Composition. none of us here have answers, i am afraid! you will find what you're looking in the Computer Science thread here http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/33-computer-science/ best of luck, and keep the faith!
  8. Hey guys! there is a poster who said they applied for a PhD in English at Cornell, but their application was forwarded to Medieval Studies. does this happen usually? or is only Cornell?
  9. oh :/ i am so sorry to heart that!!!! their loss, okay?? keep the faith!!
  10. i second that!!!! NW has taken awfully long and I am kind of dyijng here best of luck, and keep the faith!!
  11. finally received the JHU official rejection!!!!! still waiting on NYU (English) and NW (Performance Studies). best of luck for everyone!!!
  12. i am still being hopeful and i am in the English field! and don't you worry, there are even different requirements, not only different committees! so i am sure the decision making are mutually exclusive and completely separate!! plus, English came out on Friday afternoon - let's both hope for the best!!
  13. were the Comp Lit results out?! i hope it works for you! as for English (what I'm applying to), I am hoping 3 acceptances and 1 waitlist on GC are actually the only ones so far, even outside GC! hahaha too ambitious
  14. hehehe yes yes, your two cents are a fortune; it is a rejection, i am sure of it!! and what do u think of NYU? do i let go? hehe
  15. congratulations!!!!! next year you'll join them in the pub!!
  16. so a new description appeared on the JHU application portal saying: "APPLICANT COMPLETE" WHAT DOES THAT MEAN????
  17. Congrats to all Yale, Michigan, Rutgers and NYU acceptances!! this is awesome guys and I am really happy for you!!! speaking of which, do i gather that NYU is a no for me?
  18. thank you @Yanaka you also earn the credit of naming the list as such. are you going through this too? how many unis? I know that 3 JHU acceptances were documented on GR, and 1 waitlist....no rejections yet I am hoping I am on this imaginary waitlist... who else??
  19. can we do something for people who, like me, hope they are waitlisted because they did not receive rejections yet? i would call it "the delusional waitlists" or "hopeless waitlist"...but I hope this thread welcomes delusional people like me with open arms anybody got a rejection from JHU? I want to be on the waitlist, I really do. sorry, moment is over. Keep The Faith
  20. thanks alot!!!!! <3 <3 and @lemonboo, yeah that's probably true. you might be on the waiting list but they dont necessarily want to keep your hopes up - which is detrimental and constructive at the same time ahahah. KEEP THE FAITH GUYS AND GIRLS!
  21. thank you so much!!! and I hope you hear some good news yourself!!! keep the faith!!
  22. thank you soo much!!!!! what about you? any news? I would be torn between Northwestern and other schools (elsewhere though, I applied for English or Literary/Cultural Studies PhD programs). I do not have a particular background in Performance Studies at all, and my choice was solely based on faculty profiles and program fit. Maybe it would be a learning curve once I am (hopefully) in? This would make the decision really hard, but everybody is saying that NW is one of the best in Performance Studies. Any thoughts? On another note, keep this thread going!! other threads are 30+ in page count - which kind of makes u a rare elitist breed, come to think about it keep the faith everyone!! much love and kisses
  23. am i too hopeless to count on JHU? i wish they could just send me a rejection already!!! :'(
