Dumb question :can someone tell me what a POI is? I assume it stands for person of interest? are they faculty who you’ve contacted previously, current grad students, or really any person who reached out to you?

I think they will probably not wait a week before sending decisions. The fellowship thing probably means you’re already accepted anyway.

Welp, reasonably assuming rejections from places like Stanford, etc, that have already released their acceptances, I am only waiting to hear back from: Norhwestern, UMich-Ann Arbor, and Princeton. I'm thankful to have one acceptance, or else I'd be extremely nervous, because it's a complete crapshoot whether I'd be accepted anywhere else. Thankfully this will largely be over in the next two weeks...

Oh : ( do you have a friend that goes there or something? Hopefully they will send out official decisions on Monday.

From looking at past results data, they seem to send out decisions anywhere from early February to early March.

It’s too early to call it yet but I was expecting today to be a bigger day for decisions

I don’t think Princeton will communicate about acceptances until later in Feb. now we are in feb so it could be any time now I guess. heres hoping I hear from somewhere today! Whether positive or negative. I’ve been refreshing my email to no avail.

Not sure if it depends on school. One school offered mention of a stipend for transport/etc. I assume that’s typical but not sure.

We have severe weather where I’m located so literally every organization I’m affiliated with sent out an email being like “lol meeting canceled this week” and I was like STOP EMAILING ME

That may be true but this year it’s already been spread out over 2 days. I’m sure it’s likely they’re done now, but there could be more, depending.

Wow congrats to those accepted at Berkeley ! i noticed that some acceptances are going out by phone... is that common??? My phone was literally just stolen lol (not that I really expect to receive a call)

I thought I wouldn’t be accepted because my GPA is a mixed bag, although I have a somewhat interesting profile in other respects I won’t elaborate on now. I was a math major, and my in-major GPA is only about 3.1, because it was very very difficult for me (I grew up primarily doing social studies and art). I only applied to T10 programs largely because a lot of the strongest economic sociology programs happen to be T10, and some of the other programs I looked at that weren’t T10 really didn’t overlap with my interests. in short, as of late I was very worried I wouldn’t get in anywhere, because I’m sure there are a lot of unique candidates, both with good and bad GPAs, and I didn’t apply to a wide range of schools.

I’m interested in economic sociology and social class as a starting point.

Wow I got into UCLA! Now I feel like a complete ass for thinking I wouldn’t get in anywhere. I’m so relieved to be accepted somewhere.

Ugh I feel so insane for only applying to T10 programs. Part of the reason is because I’m interested in economic sociology, and a lot of good Econ soc programs are in top schools. But I also felt weirdly optimistic about getting in before. Now it’s like why did you apply to 3 programs ranked #1 are you insane???

Rejected from Madison! Kind of expected it as I pretty much expect to be rejected from everywhere I applied, reached too high. But it’s nice to finally get a decision from somewhere at least. I wonder if I will hear from Berkeley this week.

Hello, I am curious about whether I am competitive, as I only applied to Top 10 programs, which is admittedly risky. My undergrad degree was mathematics, which I did not have particularly good grades in (esp pure mathematics). My grades outside of math (sociology, history, lit, etc., and some statistics) are much better. I am interested in economic sociology, as well as class/social stratification, including some quantitative sociology. My top choice is Northwestern, I think their department is fascinating. Overall GPA: 3.46, GRE: 166V, 161Q 1 publication - one of 4 authors, in math/statistics, in an undergraduate journal 3 recs are from history, Spanish (literature/theory), and stats- I think all of my recs are pretty good, only one of them would be outstanding. If you have any insight into whether you think I have a chance or not let me know. My main worry is that my GPA is rather low, even if my GRE scores are stronger.
