  1. Just to provide some clarification on Augustana's rejection letter statement about underserved communities - Augustana is located in a more rural part of the country where there are fewer genetic counselors and there is less access to genetic counselors. When an applicant who is from say Durham, North Carolina, where there are numerous GCs and access is a bit easier (20,000 residents per genetic counselor), has an application that is near equivalent to a person that is from say Miami, FL, where the number of GCs is far less and access is not as simple (1.2 million residents per genetic counselor), Augustana is going to be more likely to accept/interview the applicant with equivalent qualifications from Miami over the applicant from North Carolina. The motivation behind this is that studies have shown that students are likely to return and practice where they are originally from and the goal is to increase number of GCs and access to GCs across all areas of the US.
  2. What a blur today was! I had an offer right away from the school that was not my top choice... Then wait list from the other 3 programs. I was extended an offer off of the wait list late in the afternoon from Augustana and have accepted! I am so happy this finally worked out for me. I wish the best to all of you!!
  3. A woman I met during interviews text me that she got an offer from Houston right away this morning and accepted. Fingers crossed that you hear news soon!
  4. Same experience last year with Emory.. unfortunately ?. Top of my list... but the feelings weren't mutual.
  5. I am currently working at a medical facility where there is a group of genetic counselors. I was able to work with my supervisor to adjust my schedule so that I can shadow the GC's a half day each week (I work 9 hour days 4 times a week and a half day on the days I shadow). I know this scenario won't be feasible for all but if you live relatively close to a medical facility, this is certainly something you can try!
  6. @robyn94 The dinners are typically more casual. The attire is entirely up to you unless otherwise specified in the invite - of those that I attended last year, I saw people in outfits ranging from leggings and sweatshirts to cute casual dresses/skirts.
  7. @WBGC@minja134 I'll have a glass of wine (or two or three) tonight and cheers to us... Time to prep for those interviews we do have!
  8. Waitlisted for an interview at Northwestern for the second year in a row... Not so hopeful that I will be offered one.
  9. I would not assume just yet, programs differ on the pace at which they send out invites. It seems like programs are quite alright with you calling to check on the status of your application. As for the worst case scenario (if you do not get invited for an interview) the programs typically request that you wait to contact them about feedback until the conclusion of the application cycle.
  10. I will be longingly waiting by my phone for a call today... it would be great to be able to schedule with Rutgers the 27th! The cost of flights, hotels, and all really adds up! I am definitely planning on attending the meet and greet at SLC that night so we will likely meet up ? Nothing from Northwestern yet... Maybe today...? We can only hope!
  11. Congrats!! Rutgers is one of the last ones I am waiting to hear on... maybe I'll get a call today? What day are you interviewing at SLC?
  12. I was so confused why it was complete silence yesterday! Let the waiting commence....!
  13. @Blizzard Ugh - I am so sorry to hear that. The best thing to do is contact each of the programs you applied to following the conclusion of the application cycle to see where you could improve for future years. Persistence is key!
  14. I contacted each of the programs to ask for planned interview dates and Northwestern said all of their interviews will be during the first two weeks in April so rest assured!
  15. Based on previous years applying, I anticipate Northwestern's notifications to come out next week at some point. The waiting game is tough!!
