@izmir Congrats! I also got an acceptance from UT-Austin. However, my question is about UCLA. Did you get an actual rejection letter or are you treating no response as a rejection? I haven't received anything from them, so I was just wondering.
-
Question for other UT-Austin people, has your portal been updated yet?
-
so excited. also claiming a UT admit!
-
@izmir it' a glitch with their system. I sent them an email about this in December and they said as much. I was told if they hadn' received the scores an email would have been sent early january.
-
I think in this heightened state everyone is reading too much into everything.
-
@deutsch1997bw I also applied to UT-Austin and my portal is loading just fine. However, looking at the the results from last year, we maybe be getting decision pretty soon.
-
@megabee I've got a few January apps to complete too. Putting them off until winter break. I feel like one of my apps may be stronger than the others, but probably only slightly. I only think this because its one of the schools I'm more excited about and one of my letter writers, who was on my thesis committee and thought it would be a good fit for me, is an alumni of the school.

Just an FYI for anyone who applied to Georgetown. They're having a brief admissions webinar on Wednesday the 13th called "I submitted my application, now what"
-
Anyone else happy/relieved submission deadlines are starting and we can stop looking at application materials?
-
Here's a very specific question for the group, has anyone included CITI training or similar training on their CV? If so under which section?
-
@Hamb My inclination is to go with your best piece of writing. I've been creating edited versions of my thesis for my samples. Figuring out which sections best display my research abilities (and can stand on their own) has been my issue.
-
@izmir I'm pretty much in the same place, but my schools are set. Finishing up a few SOPs, giving my various writing samples the twice over. Basically tying up loose ends. Also, ordering more transcripts and sending GRE scores. I wish this process was a little less expensive. I'm only applying to 5 schools, so I can imagine how the costs add up for 10 schools. I'll also throw out a question. I see a lot of posts for IR in this board, is anyone studying anything else lol. What are your research interests?
-
I'm sure others will be more helpful, but on the interdisciplinary question, I think the mix of responses you've seen is right. I've seen suggestions to not mention an interdisciplinary approach to research; however, I've also seen program descriptions which encourage taking classes in allied fields. I would say emphasize the interdisciplinary aspect in applications for schools that explicitly value work in allied fields and give it less prominence in apps for schools that aren't so explicit. Also, I think 2 theses is pretty decent research experience.

Took GRE twice - quant is till low. should I apply?
audre.bored replied to so_stressy's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
What are the average quant scores like for those programs? If you aren't too far out of the ballpark, maybe try to emphasize the quantitative skills you've gained from your accounting coursework and work experience in your statement of purpose. I am in a similar situation and I'm trying a this tactic (based on the advice I've seen on this Forum). -
Right now I'm doing a combo of stressing and editing my writing sample to various lengths.
-
How's the process going for everyone now that we're a couple months out from app due dates?
-
This calculator has always helped me https://www.cui.edu/studentlife/registrar/index/id/19090. I'd start with Spring 2017. That's the last semester you have official grades for. Upon acceptance, school usually ask for a final, official transcript.

Thanks, @dagnabbit and @Comparativist. I won't worry so much about it and shift my focus to my other application materials.
-
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, this is for a program, which has required template for CV's. It asks for relevant coursework, research skills, etc. For everywhere else, I have a much simpler version.
-
I am working on my CV and relevant coursework is required. How are you guys approaching this? I think there are obvious courses to include such as research methods or statistics, but I am trying to figure out how to handle my political science coursework. Should I include coursework relevant to my sub-field or those relevant to my research interests? Of course there is some overlap between the two, but how are you guys approaching this? Also, what is your grade cut off for including a course on your CV? Maybe I'm overthinking this, but some input would be great. Thanks.

Who Should I Ask for my LORs From?
audre.bored replied to Omarr's topic in Letters of Recommendation
I'm applying for Political Science Ph.D programs and most of the schools explicitly state that they want recommendations from those who can speak to your academic potential or intellectual capabilities i.e. a professor. This may be different for Engineering/Master's programs, so my first bit of advice would be to check how explicit the requirements are. If your internship supervisor is an option, I suggest using him and maybe reinforcing the value of the experience in your personal statement. Just my two cents. This is a new process for me as well. Good luck! -
Hey there. You might want to post this in the Government Affairs sub-forum, if you don't get any answers here. That board seems to be a little more policy focused.

Hi all. If anyone is feeling helpful, I'd appreciate a little advice. I've started looking into political science Ph.D programs for Fall 2018 admission. I am interested in researching American political parties, elections, and the presidency. Does anyone have any recommendations for departments I should look at? So far my list includes UMD, Georgetown, JHU, UCLA, and GW. Thanks in advance

Every GRE test center is booked full for the next three months?
audre.bored replied to g1668334's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
The system is down now. I was having the same issues and called ETS to register. They were doing some site maintenance and apparently they are still having issues. They couldn't even register me through their systems. I was told that Thursday would be the best time to try to register and that calling would be best. Hopefully this eases some of your worries.
