  1. Probably an all you can eat sushi, if I get admitted to my top choice or any others I'm still waiting for
  2. Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines - at first I thought it was cool but after hearing it on the radio who knows how many times and everywhere I go, it's getting just a tad bit old...
  3. I don't know what to do with my situation here... I had an awesome interview (lab visit, etc) almost exactly a month ago (my top choice), and I was told by my POI that a decision will be made two weeks after my interview, and that they will get in touch with me. Well, it's been two weeks since that "decision week" and I still haven't heard any word, and I'm getting maddeningly frustrated... should I email the POI to check on any update? I know for sure that the program requires their admitted applicants to respond by April 15 (based on my conversation with the current students there when I was invited for an interview), and at this rate I have barely a month to decide (if I'm admitted at all). I know that this school has a spring break next week, so I don't know if the decisions will be sent out during then or afterwards (or, if I'm rejected, I'm wondering if they'll hold off until April to send it out since I won't have to take time to decide on any offer at all). Thanks for any suggestions!
  4. Lol I'm getting quite a few spam emails, including obvious scams (got a few emails about Queen Victoria fellowship for grad students which claim that they have several hundred million dollars and would like to distribute to me if I provide my bank account info, lol... thanks but no thanks, I can see right through their lies). I check my spam folder frequently since I've had a few POI emails end up in that folder but now with an incoming onslaught of scams this is getting more annoying.
  5. I changed my major once, and was thinking of changing it again but decided against it because by then I was approaching the end of my second year and my undergrad debt would be much higher than estimated if I decided to stay an extra semester or a year. I also was contemplating on pursuing a music minor (music and orchestra were a few of the main things that kept me sane from any craziness I encountered during my science courses haha) but the additional coursework I had to enroll in addition to my science classes was overwhelming, so that didn't quite work out...
  6. I probably will check twice more now until I hear anything than in previous months since it's March lol...
  7. First of all, the people who were accepted have all the right to hold onto their offers as long as they please (before the appropriate deadlines of course), because as others pointed out on this thread, choosing a graduate program is a major decision, possibly one of the biggest in one's life, and selecting a choice out of their acceptances cannot be done overnight. If you were accepted to all those schools you were interviewed at, do you think you could make your decision rapidly so that you might make room for others on the waitlist?
  8. Wow, I believe saying that was quite uncalled for, also rude. Grow up. I guess that brings me one thing to vent: people taking out on others because they're frustrated/angry, etc. I mean, what good does that do to people? It just makes you look angry at the world.
  9. Same here - I received a push notification on my phone's gmail app and I excitedly clicked it, only to see that it was a promotional email advertising a coupon the next time I go to this certain restaurant or wherever. It was VERY annoying...
  10. Many programs have their interview/recruitment days or weekends to invites top applicants but some don't. Which programs did you apply for?
  11. I wouldn't be surprised if some schools have raised their application prices - when I applied for master's four years ago, I remember some of the schools (the same ones I applied this year) were at least $10 ~ $15 cheaper than the prices today. My undergrad institution uses quite an archaic setup to send transcripts. Basically, after I make my transcript request online (and pay), I then receive an authorization form, which I have to print and sign, and postal mail (or fax) it to the transcript registrar office. After they receive that, THEN they will process shipping my transcript. Furthermore, if I want to request a free transcript option, they say that it can take 3-4 weeks for it to be shipped! No way I'm risking that. But if I do a faster service, they charge me at least $25-$30 per official transcript copy. Bah...
  12. More times than I could count lol - probably more times than I blink my eye per day (okay that might be an overstatement haha).
  13. WTH?? Why would anyone do this?!? I wonder if they really get a joy out of doing something like this?
  14. Haha thanks they're one of my favorite birds too (I especially love the way they swim). I wish I could meet some famous birders like Kenn Kaufman or David Sibley! Oh I forgot, I met Yo-Yo Ma a few years ago in the backstage after his concert.
  15. Early March is usually between March 1st - 11th, from my past experience when applying for Master's (if I remember correctly). Yes, for your application status, it could be any day for you but keep in mind that it's possible for delay processing to occur (many universities experience this especially when they receive far more applications than the previous years). Thus if not early March you could wait until mid or even late March.
  16. Reading as much as I can - because once I enroll in a program in fall I doubt I'll have much time to catch up on leisure reading (most reading will probably consist of peer-reviewed papers, etc.).
  17. Someone who got rejected from Cornell's philosophy PhD program wrote: Ted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still love you. 0a/0w/1r (4) GPA Grad 3.965 Possibly the same person also wrote the following comment (also for being rejected from Cornell's Philosophy program): We are sharing pictures of Ted Sider laughing at us, poor rejected people. Join the Cuddling Society: www.facebook.com/groups/cuddlingsociety Oh and what do you know, somebody has a really good way of getting his/her rejection into a song (University of Ottawa Clinical Psychology Masters rejection): Haters going to hate hate hate hate, baby, I'm just going to shake shake shake shake shake, I shake it off I shake it off
  18. Hahaha at least he/she spelled "disheartening" correctly...
