For all who are wondering about Concordia, their interview day is Thursday the 24th. They are interviewing fewer people than usual this year, less than 15 candidates, because not many labs are accepting new students.

I got invited to a long one-on-one (as in I'll be the sole interviewee interviewing with multiple people) for a lab in advance of the open house--which I had the option of attending. It's definitely a good thing, they want to dedicate a fair bit of time to getting to know you on a more intimate level than a more general interview day provides (hopefully not intimate like THAT though *cough* dartmouth *cough*). I don't think schools in Canada have the resources for full on weekend interviews (do ANY do weekends?), so in absence of that, some PIs might find it beneficial to squeeze in extra interview time (or just different interview conditions).

I've had that experience before and the POI had invited their small pool of candidates to have dinner with him and his lab. I suspect it was to see the type of people each applicant was and how well we mingled with the lab. Needless to say, it made me quite anxious and it was hard not to judge myself with other students. If this is a similar set-up to your situation or even by yourself, the best advice I can give is to hold your nerves for the duration of the dinner and just be your regular self. You've made it this far because of merit but also because you are more than capable of presenting yourself the right way. Just treat it as a conversation (and that goes with the actual interview), and be your best self that night. Good luck!

Oh my gosh, someone really likes you!!  That's so exciting!! and nerve-wracking for sure.
My first time applying, so I've never been in said situation; however, my two cents is that your POI is very interested in taking you! I'm also doing an open house/visit to a school, in which I'll probably be grabbing lunch/dinner with my POI, however I have been accepted to the program (slightly different situation than yours). I would just say that your POI is interested in getting to know you on a one-on-one basis?  Good luck and keep me posted!

Don't give up on McGill yet! I believe approvals for interviews are just getting to POIs now! Best of luck with Ottawa  I wish I could stay here but the only POI I wanted to work with wasn't accepting students for 2019.

I didn't apply to uOttawa, but I know they're usually later in the game. They also don't have an official interview day, so I don't think they're as pressed for deadlines.

Received e-mail from POI today that she forwarded my name for the Visiting Day on Feb 11!  For those waiting to hear from Ryerson, we should receive the official invitation over the next week from the Graduate Program Administrator.

Okay so I've been pretty quiet on this forum but just had to post to say that I am loving the transparent and accepting atmosphere we have on here! This process has been cut-throat, and I constantly find myself freaking out and comparing myself to others, which obviously only makes things worse. Being able to come on to this site and have so many people sharing similar feeling and situations helps tremendously. I really appreciate you guys!

Hi all, just came here to echo all the positive vibes about rejections! I myself just received a mass rejection from UBC and although it wasn’t a school I saw myself at, the sting was still there. A reminder that even though we are all stressed during applications, that our psyche is still important!! You guys are all amazing and have something to offer - don’t forget that even if you get a shitty mass e-mail. You chose this stream for a reason and don’t forget it!! Love how we are out here supporting each other - rejection isn’t a sign for you guys to quit and lose hope. If you guys are lookin for a sign that you should keep going - this is it!!!

Yes!!! I feel like you mostly see acceptances/successes on this website, which makes those who have been rejected feel more alone when, in fact, they aren't. I will be part of this pact to normalize rejection and will let ya'll know if/when I am rejected! Thank you @higaisha for saying this!

FRICKITY FRACK IS MY MOOD ALL JANUARY
Btw y'all, I got rejected after Skype interview by 1 POI at Rye and 1 POI at Queen's. Normalizing rejection! It's nothing to be afraid of, and I encourage people to share their rejections as well as their acceptances and interviews here. Being turned down is part of the process, but you gotta dust yourself off and try again.

Nothing yet! But Friday last week I got an email from the grad program secretary asking about some parts of my application for clarification, so I would assume the admissions committee are just getting to looking at them now. But not positive!

    Heyy,
Good luck with your interview! Unfortunately,  I'm still a full-time undergrad balancing coursework/thesis/RA stuff/etc., so I won't be able to practice with you. Here are some resources:
See: "Section 3: I just Got an Interview...." It really helps a lot!  Best of luck!

Hmm that’s a tough one. I would just send them an email saying you hope everything is ok and that you can eventually connect. It’s definitely possible something personal came up for them, so I’d give them the benefit of the doubt for now... sorry to hear you’ve been put in that situation, that’s really not cool.

FYI the committee met today and made decisions. They are forwarding them to the University for formal approvals which will be sent out within a week or so. So good luck McGill applicants!
