  1. Culture shock - but we will embrace. Beaches yes. Awesome education yes. Canyons/hiking yes. More outdoor space less congestion. Ready.
  2. East coast also. Brooklyn -> Irvine!

    Irvine, CA

I am attending UCI this coming fall, MFA in Art. Very excited! I'm curious to know if anyone has had personal experience or known of others that have successfully been able to bring there dog into graduate family housing (verano place or palo verde), as a "comfort/assistance" animal through the UCI Disiblities Service Center process?? I am married and have two young girls, 3 and 6. I think a grad family apt, in Irvine, will be the most viable financial option for us... We've had our 12lb little chihuahua family dog for 13 years and can't imagine not making the move with her.

  5. @dunton I feel ya re:age-- I'm 32 w/two kids! Forever figuring it out.... I haven't heard anything from Northwestern & I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Did they say they're waitlisting a specific amount of applicants/interviewers? @apoemaballet do you have any news?
  6. Hi -- I was told by Northwestern that we would have acceptances and subsequent waitlist status, on or before March 15th.
  7. @sylviecerise did u happen to interview-meet w/ Brent Howard at Yale? He was my old upstairs neighbor & friend when I lived in south BK - Kensington a few years back- talk about not super pretentious - super skilled, great guy.
  8. Had my UC-Irvine interview via skype yesterday. I felt slightly more comfortable then at Northwestern-- with a bit more confidence having just gone through the process... Went well-- minus completely blanking (saying I wasn't very familiar), when one of my interviewers asked if Richard Artschwager was an influence of mine. Jesh. But took it as an opportunity to talk about other influences...etc. Also - for whatever reason their video monitor wasn't working. So they could see me & I couldn't see them. Which actually made me feel more comfortable and free to speak. @hastr683 Did this (Skype issue) happen to you too? They said interviewing 31 - accepting 10. It IS weirdly similar --- how RA's early bio, sort of parallels mine."In 1953, he began to sell furniture, to ensure regular income, after the birth of his daughter. In 1956, he designed and manufactured simple and modern furniture. His work as a furniture maker left its mark on the art he would later create..." Ya da ya da ya da. Now I keep running through my head (like a crazy person), what I might have said, had I known a little more about him and his past. RE: Northwestern - was thankful to be there in person, to get a general vibe. Everyone very welcoming/warm for the most part & was nice to see some of their new facilities. @dunton I was told we'd be notified before 3/15, but possibly sooner. Anyways -- time to wait. No word from UC Riverside, UCLA or Iowa.
  9. Hey thanks for this info, I still haven't heard anything from them. Dear Yunhee Min -- please call me! Anyone hear from UCLA ceramics?
  10. @artdreamer I also applied to UCR -- I haven't heard anything yet. Did you say you haven't been notified or unfortunetly notified you were not accepted?

  13. I've been having the same thoughts/concerns. Thank you for starting this thread. I don't think it would be inappropriate to ask during an interview, however maybe we could get a more informed answer by emailing the dept/grad info email per ea. school? re: sources of funding for a particular program.
