  1. Has anyone else applied to Germany? At least in the programmes I applied to, applications are not done online: all documents must be submitted by regular mail. And now I'm worried that my application may not arrive in time, even though I sent it way before the deadline. :S
  2. I downloaded duolinguo, and so far it has helped me get distracted, I've started with German... I like it
  3. Ask Gollum about it. No, seriously: I'm incredibly nervous too, it's a decision that's going to change our lives. I get this a lot! And I try not to think about this until I receive at least two acceptances. If I receive only one, there's no much to think about. Me neither. I haven't told anyone where I'm applying (except my parents and recommenders): I don't want everyone to know I'm applying to X, Y and Z and then, when they ask, tell them I got rejected in all of them. :S In my case, I'll start receiving notices starting around 20-something of January, according to last year's results, so it's like being the calm before the storm.
  4. I checked on the Search section and indeed some acceptances in US universities are sent even in May.
  5. I just checked aall the websites... just to continue the daily routine
  6. Only if we're accepted somewhere. Hopefully
  7. Hey, that's a GRE word
  8. Wow, that's strange. It's very unusual for an USA university to send admissions or rejections one month before the deadline, right? Yes, it was terrible. I suffered greatly during that hour... xD I received a call at 8 am today... I got very nervous (no one calls me)... it was my uncle. This application season is driving me crazy, and it's just starting xD
  9. I think the same, I'll be much more relaxed during the next few days. I'll help with the cooking today, that will help me to "wait it out".
  10. During this whole week I don't plan on checking my applications, I have plenty of articles and books to read! And soon I'll start working, so hopefully that distracts me a bit.
  11. Oh man... Patience, then. Maybe you're like me: I also had as deadlines Dec. 15th, so while some schools are still reviewing my applications, I should be receiving some news on others.
  12. Thanks for the information! One deadline of mine is until mid January ... argh, so many days ahead.
  13. It's cool to look at the gradcafe survey and think: "When will it be my turn to post?"
  14. Hello. I've carried money in my wallet and it wasn't a problem at all. Sure, you get nervous, but after all, I think keeping the money the closest to you it's better. If you're worried about the wallet when you're going through screening, maybe you could place it deep inside your backpack. It's harder for someone to grab it "by accident".
  15. I guess next week the Admission Committees are on holidays everywhere, so there will be no news.
  16. It's kind of a general question, but if I submit an application before the deadline, will it get reviewed only after the deadline, or it could be reviewed before? I think in Europe they review it even it's before the deadline, while in the USA only when it's after.
  17. So true!!! They just don't understand how hard to get accepted is. There's no correct age for a Ph.D. I even think a Ph.D. student 28 years old would be so much more mature than a 22-year-old one, and that is something positive.
  18. Once a girl in my lab had as whatsapp sound the one I have for my email notifications... It was horrible
  19. Oh yeah, I have my smartphone to get me notified when an email arrives. I get very nervous when I hear that ring, even though my program's notifications are usually sent until January. I'm not sure if they have started reading my applications, at least in the USA. Sorry for that rejection :S
  20. This LOR deadline issue happened to me once. It was veeeeryyy stressful, but he sent the letter just before the deadline I wish I had some videogames, that would truly help! Finding this forum also helps, honestly. As someone mentioned before, my friends usually say: "Don't worry, you'll get in", but they have no idea how competitive this is! :S
  21. Good for a change, I hope. Don't worry, we'll find our new academic lives in a great place. It remains to see where....
  22. Everyday I check the Search section, and I get really happy for the people accepted. It helps.
  23. I would get truly nervous in an interview, I imagine it's pretty normal :S There's a song called Eternal Wait by a band called Ensiferum... I share some of the lyrics: http://www.metrolyrics.com/eternal-wait-lyrics-ensiferum.html Over the forgotten seaVoice of angel is calling for meSomewhere where the mountains collideThat's where I'll find my new life
  24. Besided earning some money (that honestly I really need), it would keep my mind busy in something else. But until then, I have around 10 days of holidays to spend the entire day thinking on when my results will come. I estimate at least one month until then, based on the previous year's results.
  25. I submitted my application on Dec 6, and even though the deadline of my program is on January 30, it now shows "Under Consideration by Department". I wonder when I'll get a result.
