'Nova! Just tell me about my not being funded, already!  

I just got my acceptance email! Brb dying. 

I contacted Ole Miss to get a rough estimation of when to expect an answer, and they told me that I am #5 in a 12 person wait list. I could not be more excited. I know it's risky to my emotions, but with all of the people I see waiting to reject their many offers until closer to the deadline, I'm taking this as an acceptance. Eeee! 
... In other news, was anyone accepted for their English MA program that doesn't plan to attend? 

I only applied to five schools, and only for MA, but three of them haven't sent me any response, and it's driving me crazy. 
I got into two programs, and I am eternally grateful. but Villanova said they'd contact me about funding in March (ambiguous much?), and the not knowing is killing me. 
Seriously, Syracuse University, Ole Miss, and Purdue, where you at? 

 

Delighted to FINALLY be a legitimate poster here! I got into Villanova, yay!!!! I'm waiting to know more about funding (they said within the next two days) before getting extremely excited (I already texted all my friends), but I'm relieved to have received an acceptance, and no less from them

@otobus, I wouldn't feel bad about calling the department at this point if they said "a few weeks," but maybe she wants to wait just a little bit longer. At this point I think it's fair game.

In other news, I got the email today that says that I'm no longer on the waitlist for UMass Amherst!! I have an interview for a TAship soon, but I just got a lot closer to going to my #1 choice  

My reach school rejected me today. I'm trying to tell myself not to be upset, that it was always a long-shot, but it hurts. 
I'm visiting UA this weekend, a school that has been wonderful to me from the start, and I'm waiting to hear back from Villanova about funding and Ole Miss about acceptance/rejection. The world goes on. 
Maybe one day I'll see you for a PhD, Syracuse.
 

So it's my birthday, and I woke up to an email from Purdue.. 
"Happy Birthday from the Purdue Graduate School, Apply Now" with contact info. 
I know it was sent because I signed up for info way back in the beginning, but it was just so harsh, man. 
No one has posted results from the MA programs that I am waiting on, negative or positive, but the hope is killing me and harshing my birthday vibe.

I just received word that I've been accepted at the University of Indiana Bloomington's PhD program! This was my reach school--every other program that I applied to was just a MA.

I am shell-shocked. I need to sit down. I AM SITTING DOWN. What is happening!

 

@orphic_mel528, I'm out of reputation, but I wanted to say how sorry I am that someone you've known for so long would take that kind of tact. So often it seems to me that people on the outside of academic work have a set of responses, as though they're reading directly from a script, when talking about the academy, no matter the circumstances. It's rather bizarre, to me, that there is such a widespread assumption that academic work isn't or can't be real work, even as more and more people go to college and press their own children likewise to go to college, something that would be impossible were it not for those willing to get PhDs. The current higher educational system relies on people getting PhDs, and yet somehow it is shameful to do so? It's something I certainly don't understand.
 
On the other hand, my father--a high school dropout who's worked with his hands his entire life (although he also does IT work sans degree)--remains completely baffled that he doesn't have to come up with money to put me through a PhD program. I've tried explaining several times that I only really applied to programs that would waive tuition and give me a stipend, but he remains worried about the debt he believes I will certainly accrue. People's assumptions re: academia are really strange.

I was accepted to the University of Florida today!!! I got the call while on the way to the airport and had to pull over/let my fiancé drive. I may cry on the plane...
Also may have audibly squealed while talking with the DGS. (Super professional, I know.) Once I have more info, I'll be sure to share!

Got into Old Dominion's PhD in English today. I have a family and 3 young kids and a full time instructor position where I live, so I was thrilled to get into this program because of their distance option. 

Holy shit, I just got into Oxford!  Rejections from both Columbia and NYU, so yay this! Going to be biting my fingernails until I hear about funding (nominated by the English department for scholarship funding, but I'll have to wait for the Humanities division to make their final calls).

WOW I just received another offer from CU Boulder! They called me!!! They are unable to offer me admission into the PhD program (they only accepted 4 students) but would love to have me in the MA!!! Really thrilled; it was a nice phone call. First phone call of the admissions season and was really terrifying. Funding will be offered later.

I got into LSU! My first acceptance.  I may be dancing in my office right now. 

After waiting through a painful number of rejections, I woke up to an acceptance from the University of Toronto! Absolutely thrilled, and totally in shock since I was already steeling myself to apply again next year.

- Go to Signature (5th tab on the left)
Whatever you set it as will show up on everything you post. There are font and color options, as well as an upload file option for pictures.

When I visited Bama before attending for my MA, I did so by myself, without any other new admits. I mentioned to the Strode director I was going to be in the state visiting family on a certain long weekend, asked if I could swing through Tuscaloosa, and she made arrangements with faculty and other grad students to meet with me. It was all very informal.

Second grad school acceptance: Villanova University!!
I don't get info on funding until March, and funding makes the world go around, but I am so proud of myself for getting this far. 
I have options, and there are still 3 grad schools to go. Be still my heart.

I thought there might be some benefit in creating a forum where (1) people can post if they are declining an offer, and (2) where people can post where they are wait-listed. Sure, there is no guarantee the wait-listed person will get the spot, but it's still nice to know, right? Or we can put anything related to wait-lists here.
