  1. Thanks for the info! So the interviews have been sent out? That's what I'm curious to know. In that case, I guess I could consider myself out of the game since no interviews basically equal rejections
  2. Welcome Triangular and good luck! It's Friday again. I posted a question asking if anyone heard from Northwestern MTS program but got no replies, which is so odd. I started worrying about people have already been invited for interviews but just no one posted on gradcafe. Nevertheless, ice-creams and chocolates are so in demand for the weekend!!!
  3. Thanks! I'm trying not to get crazy because they have been a few days behind themselves last year I think the Comm program at UIC is kinda smaller compared to other programs that we have been talking about. Do you know what kind of work they do, like research focuses?
  4. Yes, UIUC is the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and UIC is the University of Illinois at Chicago. They belong to the same system, but operate quite independently. They are not 2 campuses of 1 school but more like 2 different schools. It's kind of like UC system: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, etc.
  5. Conky3000, I feel you! Let's wait until next week and if we still don't hear anything, I will ask them. Are you waiting on any other program? Congrats ejpril88! Looks like you have some options now! I decided to pursue a PhD because I do like research. Even if I were going to work in the industry I would like to do consumer insights, market research kind of work. The MS program that I attended helps me gain a foundation of research and analysis skills, and expose me to a range of different research topics. I was so relaxed last night chilling with my friends but today the anxiety is back I have a feeling that I won't get any news this week. I try to think "no news is better than bad news", but still, it's hard to get rid of the nerves
  6. Hi Conky3000, are you talking about the Department of Communication at UIUC? I applied there as well and haven't heard anything. But in many cases programs just announce their admits and not reach out to their rejects until much later. I don't have much expectations for this program because I don't think the fit was that great, so I'm not too anxious about this. But if it bothers you, how about sending them a quick email asking about the status of the admission process? I think it wouldn't hurt.
  7. Guys, this is only the first of February. So many schools haven't made decisions yet. And even when they do, there are still wait lists and people getting on and off, so hold on and have faith. Eat a lot of comfort foods if you feel like doing so! I am so sorry Minnesota didn't work out for heyDW. There are still a few more to go so I would remain positive. Sending the best of luck to you! I'm hanging out with a few girls tonight and we will be eating a lot of ice creams and watching "The Bachelor". Every day at around 4 p.m. I thought I'd give up on waiting and stop caring about this whole applying thing, but when I wake up in the morning it's the first thing that comes up, and hangs on my head the rest of the day, until 4 or 5 p.m. This is both nerve-wracking and exciting.
  8. The feeling is mutual. I also did not contact anyone, due to the fact that my applications were prepared kinda late, and my professors didn't feel strongly about doing so. I guess that it could work either way At this point I'm wishing I had done everything I could to enlarge my chance of being admitted though. I'm trying to resist the idea of calling Northwestern. It's been 2 days pass their timeline last year when they started sending out interview invitations, and I haven't seen any posts on Results, so I'm guessing they're behind this cycle. I can only imagine how heyDW's husband is feeling. If that were me I wouldn't be able to do anything. Really hope it would work out for you guys!!!
  9. Hi guys, it's Monday again. Another week of anxious waiting and over-analyzing has begun. I hope heyDW's husband would get a positive result soon and that you guys both get to the same ideal place I am waiting to hear from Northwestern (Media, Technology and Society program) and UIUC (Department of Communication, which is different from ICR). I believe they would send out something soon. Is there anyone here contacted prospective POIs in prior to applying? Do you think that would help significantly?
  10. Sending congratulations to those that got acceptances and lots of luck to those that are still waiting! It's coming very close to the time that the programs I'm waiting for start sending out things. I'm literally holding my breath every time there is an email notification. I was trying to distract myself from anxiety by finish writing the paper that I should have completed a while ago , which helps a little bit. Today is Friday so if nothing comes today, we could instantly forget about all this for the next couple of days (hopefully?)
  11. Institute of Communication Research at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign - Accepted on January 24th Stanford University - Rejected on January 24th
  12. Congrats DBear for getting the interview! That's a really good sign! I guess most schools require TOEFL scores now despite having US degrees because in US degrees don't necessarily ensure English fluency, and PhD students are usually required to TA or even teach. I understand the rationality, but I'm too lazy to take the test again (my old scores expired a while ago), because it takes a certain amount of practice to score high, and it costs, too So I ended up applying to only 4 programs. The end of Jan and beginning of Feb is the peak time for admission results, so I hope we will all hear something good soon
  13. Thank you, guys. It's great to have somebody to talk to about this Hope we will all go through this with great news and options! @ejpril88: The Comm program at Purdue is also very good. I almost applied there as well but backed out as they required TOEFL and I didn't want to take the test again (I'm an international student with US degree)
  14. I wonder if they already sent out all the acceptances. I think ICR also has a waiting list, so you can contact them to find out if that was the case for you. Which division did you apply to? I applied to Advertising.
  15. I just got the acceptance from ICR. Huray! My acceptance was followed by a rejection from Stanford, but it was well expected. So no hard feelings ... I'm waiting for 2 more programs. Please please decisions come soon so I can function and actually do something ....
