  1. Random question, but I've seen a couple people on here say that they want to keep their applications open even though they don't think they'd accept anymore, OR someone saying that it's a huge honor just to be a Semi-Finalist and that it looks good on a Resume. So my question is (and perhaps there are two different answers): How does someone who doesn't accept a Fulbright, (Either because of non-acceptance to final stage, OR because they decided to do something else) list this on their resume/CV/whatever else they want? Edit: I am asking because while I have not heard back from Fulbright yet, I think I am going to accept an offer from a University, but I remember people talking about putting this on their resume and how it looks good. I'd like to capitalize on this is possible. You know, make all the waiting and work worth something.
  2. First: thanks for the intel! Im scraping the bottom of the barrel on information. Second: im not sure how their original offers are calculated but if its not enough id say explain the situation to them and ask for more when you get it.
  3. Im gonna bet the storm prevented them from doing finishing touches. Columbia students had the same response and were told a one day delay.
  4. Makes sense. Well congrats to him! Let's hope it's an omen of further notifications to come.
  5. That seems weird to me, as HDS is very clear that they release all their decisions at the same time online only (as I'm sure everyone on this forum is painfully aware)... I'm curious to hear their answer when you find out.
  6. I've been awake for the last 14 hours (time difference and all). I know I should go to sleep, make time fly, but I just... can't... stop... refreshing... the browser....
  7. ugh that makes me not think it'll be tomorrow, as I feel like they would have just said "tomorrow". Here's hoping I'm wrong.
  8. Oh man I hope youre right. I just want this to be over and done with. My imagination likes to play games with me while waiting.
  9. Anyone worried that the snowstorm is going to delay admissions decisions at HDS?
  10. I'm currently a PCV in Georgia! You're in for a TRIP! (in a good way)
  11. Congrats everyone! Fingers crossed for HDS. For those of you who have applied to FLAS at various schools, do you know how it works? Do they email you/mail you seperately? Do you find out from the school financial aid office?
  12. I say go for it! That sounds awesome. Worst comes to worst you have a bit of stress to distract you from an even more stressful situation.
  13. Two things to note about what I am about to say. All fulbrighters i have ever met are ETA. second I am currently a Peace Corps Volunteer and most fulbrighters I know are previous PCVs too. Every fulbright I have come in contact with lives at standard of living for their respective countries. They are able to save a small amount of money, and are not short on cash, however they are not living large either, but they do have the money to travel around. As a fullbright I assume you will not be living in a nice apartment with all the ameneties you may be used to In NYC, (also lived in NYC for 6 years, 1k a month doesnt do jack i know), but youll have a place to stay, money for ameneties (perhaps not a restaurant every night tho), pocket money, and some extra. The stipend is based on standard of living so a country where you need more you should be getting more, meanwhile a country where you dont need as much you wont get as much. I have never met a fulbrighter who needed money, but dont plan on being able to make a nest egg or pay off loans while in fulbright.
  14. I was under the impression that It depends on the funding you are receiving, and that many funding offers can be tax free? http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/taxability.phtml "Your scholarship may or may not be taxable. Generally speaking, a scholarship or fellowship is tax free if you are a degree candidate and the award is used to pay for tuition and required fees, books, supplies and equipment, however there are some scholarship and fellowship opportunities that are not tax exempt." Also see: https://www.irs.gov/publications/p970/ch01.html "This chapter discusses the income tax treatment of various types of educational assistance you may receive if you are studying, teaching, or researching in the United States. The educational assistance can be for a primary or secondary school, a college or university, or a vocational school." Please correct me if I am wrong tho, cause I'm new to this and now I'm scared.
  15. Sorry @suhba7 and @Johnny.S I was not clear. the CMES MA has already come out, the Divinity school all says next week. I interpreted the question asking when the MA vs. MDiv results came out as being the comparison for the two colleges. Ignore me.
  16. As far as I know a bunch of people have already heard from the MA program and none from the MDiv program yet. so if you're waiting on MA answers they'll be soon if you haven't already heard since posting this. GOOD LUCK!
  17. Thanks! I actually had a question about language study and travel abroad, basically, what's available, how many people do it. Should I PM you?
  18. Good luck! You'll hear soon. No news is good news.
  19. There was no reference to a visit in my letter. So I dunno. Congrats!
  20. Got emailed to check the website for Uchicago MES MA, 50% funding so spot on with what you said @rheya19 Good luck everyone!
  21. Just got accepted to UChicago's MA in Middle Eastern Studies. If anyone else applied they're sending out answers! GOOD LUCK!
  22. Friend of mine just got accepted to Union, I don't have anymore information than that. But they're rolling out acceptances.
  23. I was on an undergrad (IVY) college tour and this girl's mother was in a wheelchair, the tour guide completely ignored her and my dad had to help them LIFT the wheelchair once or twice over a couple small stairs in order to stay with the group. When we got to a large flight of stairs it was pointed out to the guide that she couldn't go up the stairs and he just waved to the right and said "you can probably find a ramp or something over that way" and kept leading the tour up the stairs. My family left with her family to go find a ramp, and when we got to the top of the stairs five minutes later the tour was gone. TLDR: look up any schools DRC AND google reviews of it. *EDIT: Just realized this was a resurrected thread and your comment was ages ago, I should really learn to check dates*
