It depends on the organization. There might be grants available within your school - ask around.

I've never seen anyone around me having a paid intership for a clinical field placement.

Rarely. It's hard to find one that pays.

Western Michigan University has a MSW program with several optional specializations including Integrative Holistic Health and Wellness. There are several classes that focus solely on mindfulness. I applied for the MSW program, and have been taking the holistic health classes for a year now. I absolutely love them.

A certificate in DBT is just an additional certification/specialization that a mental health or in this case MSW clinician can receive.  Typically one receives their MSW and then takes their licensing exam after graduation to become an LMSW, which is basically a license to practice under supervision. Then from after receiving the LMSW you can become a LCSW; in order to receive this credential in NY you need 3000 hours of supervision within a minimum 3 year time frame and you have to take your clinical licensing exam.  From the LCSW you can become a LCSW-R by obtaining 6 years of post graduate supervision.

I would complete my MSW and seek a DBT certification. Alternatively schools like Columbia, Smith, DePaul, Loyola, Aurora, University at Buffalo, and UC San Diego all have faculty that specialize in mindfulness training/practice. I would recommend reading through the faculty pages at schools you're interested in to see whether any of their instructors share your interests.

It's not an MSW but may be worth considering depending on where your career interests lie - http://www.lesley.edu/master-of-arts/mindfulness-studies/

Because most schools take their time with rejections. There are very few that send them the same time as acceptances. Only one school that I know has rejected me has sent an official letter and acceptances were notified weeks ago.
They position may or may not be filled but I doubt they'd take a student right away (working out funding takes time, setting up space for the lab, they may not even be mentoring faculty).

One of my labmates was invited to interview and flown out late last month. It was just a meeting with their POI, not like a whole interview weekend. However, their research interest area is social psychology related.

Congratulations to everyone who has already received admissions offers! I'm playing the waiting game as well, and not yet through with my interviews. I feel fortunate to have gotten multiple invites, but is anyone with me that being constantly exposed to evaluation and at least just...extra attention paid to your presence, is exhausting? It's impossible to fly under the radar at times during interview weekends.
These past few weeks have been kinda emotionally draining even though it's been exciting and fun to meet established psychologists, future colleagues, and learn about each other and the programs. One of my favorite and most refreshing parts of all this has actually been talking to fellow applicants in person :-) seems like everyone has great contributions to (hopefully) make to the field. But, and I say this with  full acknowledgment of my own gratitude...in some ways I really can't wait for this to be over hahah. Having a community to commiserate with is great (regardless of the anxiety-fueled tension that can come up).
    Best of luck to everyone!!

Hi WhereamI - yes I did interview both on the phone and on campus. Though I also know that invitations to interview are still going on and will be happening till 15 Feb. I just got one early since I had been in touch with my POI for almost 6 months. I am sure you have a shot still.

No, I agree that that response seemed overly vindictive and also not in the spirit of this otherwise largely supportive community, even if it was misguidedly in the name of protecting that community. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and all that. Thank you for being receptive to my unsolicited 2 cents!

The REAL villain here is society and it's misplaced values that lead to such a damning dearth of funding for scientific progress and mental health care. Hopefully we can all agree on that!

@byn thanks for this. I was suspecting the same, and I just looked back at the prior conversation/argument that I hadn't previously read- yikes

Agree! However, wonder how important is the GRE score - acceptance correlation? Especially if you got the research experience + GPA. Curious!

What I suspected, or perhaps hoped, was that once you hit a certain level with your scores (what might be called the "acceptable scores range"), focus would shift to the other components of your application. Ian Faircloud said something like a 160+ V and 150+ quantitative probably makes the optics good enough. What I'm actually suspecting now that the app season is underway, though, is that your GRE scores probably, to some degree, color the interpretation of the rest of your application, especially with the applicant pool being as good as it is. With a 169 or 170 in verbal and, let's say, a 160+ in quantitative, they'll probably be more optimistic about the rest of your app. It gives you a way to stand out from the other applicants, which helps when there are often 250-300 people applying.
I could be wrong, and it could be the anxiety of waiting on decisions that makes me think that, but that's what I suspect happens in some cases. People with great GREs will probably be interpreted with rose-tinted glasses compared to those with "acceptable" GREs.

After confirming with the department staff that no mass invites have been extended, I emailed my POI, who was generally incredibly friendly and responsive previously, and was met with silence. I presume he's still reviewing…

My general strategy is to call the secretarial staff before emailing POIs, just to confirm the invitations haven't been sent before chasing after profs.

This Harvard situation… Stressful is not the word.
