  1. Got a no from the Berkeley waitlist, so this process is over for me!
  2. Accepted off the waitlist at Rutgers!!!!
  3. Thank you! I am still waiting to see how the other waitlists turn out (though I certainly wish I could make a decision sooner...).
  4. Accepted off the UNC waitlist today.
  5. Hi there! I haven't been told about the visit days, but I too am puzzled by this. I'm planning to ask more about the waitlist and a possible visit soon, so I can let you guys know once I have a little more info. Do we know who was sending out the first round notifications? Maybe that affected when I was notified?
  6. Same; I had assumed rejection until now, so it was quite the surprise!
  7. Just got word today that I'm waitlisted at UNC!
  8. I've had two of my professors recommend that I ask questions as though I were an admitted student. Specifically, one of them mentioned that I should think about the things I'd want to know in order to choose between program X and my other options - especially if I got a last minute offer on April 15th. Given the unpredictability of waitlists this could very well happen, so it's good to be prepared for that in advance! (And, if you need to decline, it's a courtesy to others on the same list). I definitely feel this pressure too though.
  9. @Coconuts&Chloroform I feel very much the same (and was also hesitant to take up offers to speak with professors one-on-one, knowing that I'm feeling rather rusty). But to echo others, it seems like the visits are really there to answer any questions you have and help you get a sense of whether the program is the best fit for you
  10. Rejection from Michigan.
  11. Same! Just the opportunity to visit is totally thrilling, I am so excited!
  12. Hahaha, point taken. Given the unpredictability of it all though, I am quite alright with however things shake out (and would be thrilled if we ended up as interlocutors!). I'm just here to offer any helpful information I've dug up along the way!
  13. Yay! That sounds like excellent news then (re: interest fit). And yeah, it's tough to beat Rutgers' placement record! Are you planning to go out for the official visiting days?
  14. Any word on if Michigan is done with acceptances?
  15. I think it is also worth taking into account the relevant strengths of each subfield at the schools. Gauging it based off of rankings is probably somewhat useful (even if only marginally, since rankings are a messy business). Here are some links you might find useful: http://leiterreports.typepad.com/blog/2016/10/best-phd-programs-for-political-philosophy-for-2016-17.html (UVA > Rutgers) http://leiterreports.typepad.com/blog/2016/09/best-phd-programs-for-epistemology-for-2016-17.html (Rutgers > UVA) http://leiterreports.typepad.com/blog/2016/10/fall-2015-update-to-the-pgr.html (details on faculty changes at programs) http://leiterreports.typepad.com/blog/2016/10/fall-2014-pgr-seen-from-2016-17-taking-account-of-faculty-changes.html (general groupings for overall rank) I would also reach out to Dr. McGary at Rutgers, since his interests seem to perfectly align with yours. They've got a couple of people retiring, including Dr. Goldman, so you might want to check in with them to make sure the people you want to work with will still be there in the next few years. I don't know much about UVA, but their political philosophy offerings appear to be much more substantial than Rutgers.
  16. It's probably worth asking someone in the department at Rutgers how closely they work with their CogSci department and/or other local departments. I know they mentioned that they offer a Cognitive Science Certificate too!
  17. WAITLISTED AT RUTGERS!!!!! My top choice. Shaking in disbelief.
  18. A current student there said that they usually call admitted and waitlisted students over a couple days, so they may not be out yet.

    JD/MA

Berkeley's also got a Jurisprudence and Social Policy program that seems pretty excellent!
  20. Accepted to UT Austin with a fellowship offer!
  21. re: NYU, maybe it's for their JD/MA or MD/MA options? Otherwise maybe they just added it to the wrong category.
  22. There's an NYU Philosophy Masters acceptance from Jan 19th, posted today... what's going on here? haha
  23. Yup, right there with you.
