I would honestly suggest emailing professors you are interested in working with to see if they have any opportunities, especially if they work at a large institution where other/related labs might be hiring as well. Another RA at my current position got her job this way. You will get a lot of "no, sorry" or just zero response, but you will probably get some helpful emails or phone calls as well. When I was searching for my current (full time RA) position, I essentially looked at job listings for universities/hospitals that I knew were doing research I was interested in. Sometimes these jobs are posted on external job boards, but not always. I probably applied to ~20 positions before I got any real bites. Now is definitely the time to start looking though. Edit to add: are you willing to relocate? It would've been much harder to find work had I not been willing to relocate. Also, I would suggest asking current professors/advisors if they have any leads as well. You are most likely to get a job through your connections!

Fall 2017 Acceptance Thread
Happy_Green_Inchworm replied to tomorrowforgotten's topic in Psychology Forum
I was offered $16,500 in a very low cost area. I'm keeping in mind this is the 10-month stipend--all the students in the program I'll be attending work there over the summer, so it should work out to more like $19-20,000. I'm moving from a very high-cost area, so (especially since I'm moving with my partner) I may have a higher quality of life, even with the significant pay cut.- 62 replies

Fall 2017 CANADIAN clinical psychology

Do you think its kosher at this point to email my POI and ask about my status with McGill clinical? Would that be too pushy? I have an offer from another school, and I'd really like to accept it if I'm no longer under serious consideration...- 1,055 replies

Fall 2017 CANADIAN clinical psychology

I haven't heard anything yet. I emailed an update to my application to the graduate secretary on January 17th, when she said that "if a professor is interested in your application, he/she will contact you in the next few weeks." I've been assuming that not hearing anything by now is a no-go sign, but is that a safe assumption?- 1,055 replies

Fall 2017 Clinical Psychology Applicants

Yeah, I would definitely wear practical footwear and maybe bring flats/heels to change into once you get inside. You do NOT want to be miserable with cold/painful feet on top of the stress of an interview (and you definitely don't want to take a dive on some ice during a tour because you're wearing heels). No reasonable person will judge that. -

That's sort of what I thought. I am applying to Phd programs, and I definitely want to be more involved in research than clinical practice (although I do want to become an effective clinician.) I'm just never sure how specific to get. -

I think there was a thread somewhere about interview preparation, but I can't find it, so. How do y'all answer questions about "where you'd like to be in 5 years?" I haven't been sure exactly what POI's are looking for with these questions--a general sense of the balance I want between research and clinical work? My ideal job description? I have ideas about what I want, but I haven't planned my life down to the T. -

If you haven't gotten an email from York--I'd suggest checking your application status on their webpage. I didn't get an email but my status said "unsuccessful."- 1,055 replies

Ooh I didn't know they had two interview sessions! Back in December I got invited to interview on 2/9-210. I wonder if all the PI's interview folks on both days? (I'm interviewing with MS) I assume you're interviewing--good luck! -

Does anyone know how many people IUPUI (Indiana-University Purdue-University Indianapolis) usually invites to their interview day? It's one of my top schools and I'm wondering about my chances. -

Has anybody else applied to the University of Michigan's Joint PHD in social work/social science (I applied in psychology)? It's my top program, but they don't have interviews and I have ZERO sense of how competitive it is or when they start notifying applicants.
