  1. Are you only doing PhD programs? Otherwise, I'm not sure why Tufts and Brandeis (both terminal MA's) aren't on there since they're top-ranked by The Philosophical Gourmet. I applied to both so I'd like to see them on there if possible!
  2. Hi! Posting late, but I want to follow this thread for results! I'm an undergrad at UMass Boston double majoring in philosophy/sociology, and hoping to attend a grad program in philosophy. My AOI is social and political philosophy, especially in relation to social justice and public policy. I applied to (all Boston-area schools) Philosophy PhD programs at Harvard, BU, and BC; Philosophy MA programs at BU, BC, Tufts, and Brandeis; and MS in Ethics & Public Policy at Suffolk. Accepted at Suffolk, still waiting on all the rest. I'd love to talk to anyone who applied to the same schools as me (or currently attends them), or has similar research interests!
  3. I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to share the super confusing length requirements from Harvard's Philosophy program: "In general, the writing sample should be at least 12 to 15 pages long, but no more than 40 pages; a rough maximum length would be about 25 pages." What?! (The writing sample I actually submitted with my app was 20 pages...)
  4. Also, get a math-specific practice book, look at the table of contents, and focus on the stuff you don't already know. The one I got was Kaplan and it had practice questions for each section (geometry, graphing, fractions, etc.) as well as more comprehensive practice tests at the end.
  5. I'm liberal arts so the math wasn't as big a focus for me, but I did 1 month of intensive studying (about 3-4 hours a day) before taking the test, and got my score on the quantitative section up from low 130's (on the first practice test I took, with no studying) to 155. I also got 169 on the verbal section. I know most people study for at least several months before the test, but this method really worked for me and I'm happy with my scores!
  6. Plus, you said you have a master's with a high GPA, so you'll be absolutely fine if you put effort into the rest of your app instead of the GRE.
  7. Jeez, no. Your scores are decent. Focus your time on the writing sample (I assume there is one for anthro) and personal statement. I'm applying to philosophy programs, but everything I've read says the GRE is the least important part of the app, so don't worry about it.
