  1. Congratulations on getting into your top choice school!
  2. Earlier on, I wasn't too concerned, since I figured that I am probably not going to make the top of the pile in any case. Now, with April coming on soon, and with numerous rejections, I am just hoping for an admit. So other people indicating that they've been accepted when I have not heard from the school is getting me down. I almost think that I should give up and go find a job.
  3. I can understand local students with local addresses getting snail mail, but what about overseas applicants with overseas addresses?
  4. I really do not understand program offices who do not bother to inform applicants on the results of their admission. They could easily just drop an email, so why do you think that they leave us in limbo?
  5. I'd be 46 by the time I graduate, if I get in this fall. Real convoluted path in between.
  6. Did Chemistry right up to grad level. Left it behind to do an MBA, and now hoping to do a PhD in Marketing (although I don't seem to be getting anywhere with applications). Would I have wanted to do my PhD in Marketing from the start? I doubt so. It has been a slow but continual evolution of myself...
  7. I'm terrible! I stay up all night to check my emails (due to the time difference), and end up feeling rotten during the day!
  8. Have your looked at the RAE ratings for the different schools? I'm not from your field, but studied many years in London. UCL and LSE both have great reputations for almost all their courses, with Kings being stronger in the Humanities side than the technical.
  9. Yeah. I get what you mean. It's amazing how much we stall what we are doing in our lives during these few weeks, as if our whole lives depended on it. I was so much calmer earlier on, when I wasn't fretting over admissions...
  10. I second what whitecastle said. You will be in that location for quite a few years, so you had better find it comfortable to live in. Else, it will end up eating into your performance in your studies.
  11. LOR or no LOR, I think it was pretty lousy. They could at least have said that they did not receive the 3rd LOR, or that it was pending all 3 LORs. Thank goodness for internet LORs, at least you can prove that all 3 were sent!
  12. If I were that friend, I would make sure that I would reject the offer, unless that was the only one coming through. It's almost as if they were playing with his emotions!
  13. I would say that location does matter, especially if you grew up in a big city and are thinking of moving into the country for your grad school (or vice versa). I knew of friends who used to travel great distances to the "city" every weekend to get their "fix", which I do not think is ideal for grad school.
  14. Does anyone know why a school would choose snail mail instead of email to inform rejects or admits?
  15. That is truly horrible! I'm sorry to hear. Hopefully some good news is on its way to you soon!
  16. Quite a few schools don't even interview anyone. So, don't worry. Unless you hear that they have offered others, but you have not yet heard from them.
  17. Hang on in there! I'm not much better than you, with 5 rejections and no admits. I am beginning to think that it is not meant to be.
  18. I agree that the note reveals nothing at all. Like avatarofabs says, he is being professional. So I guess you have to ask the department about their decision.
  19. I've realized that you cannot really read into the titles of the emails, unless it is Congratulations or Good News From The School. A number of my emails were on the vein as Admission Decision Is Now Available, and they all turned out to be rejections. So, I am hoping for a letter from the school instead.
  20. I know what you mean. Have been doing contract work for a fund while waiting for admissions results. With the number of rejections I have been getting, I am beginning to wonder if I should have just taken a job last year and not bothered about this PhD...
  21. I know how you feel. So what if I was on the Dean's List for my MBA, and got a Distinction for my MSc (unrelated subject)? I got my 5th rejection today, out of 9 applications. Looks like I'm not supposed to do this PhD...

  23. I'm in the same situation as you, still have not heard from some of the schools that have already rejected people about a week ago. I hope it's not that they just are sending a rejection letter to me instead (seems like an inefficient way to do it, since I am all the way in Singapore). What schools are you hoping to hear from?
  24. What subject are you applying to do your MA in? Many of the schools in the UK are strong in some fields, but weak in others, so there is no blanket reputation. Take a look at their RAE rankings to get an indication on where they stand.
  25. I haven't got a single acceptance letter either. 5 out of 9 rejections is not a good track record. I just want one acceptance, and I will be over the moon.
