martizzle, been there, done that. Was a teacher before, and worked in marketing for the past 6 years plus in various marketing assignments including product marketing, pricing, business development, technical marketing, services marketing, marketing strategy. Short of trying to volunteer to do free research for the profs, I wonder what else I need to do...
-
I feel for you too. I thought that my previous experience with graduate research, plus years working in marketing would have helped me. In the end, it is still the age that is working against me. They must think we just love to torture ourselves doing GMAT/GRE exams and writing SOPs and asking for LORs...

martizzle, I do ask myself the question. Here I am with a PhD and two Masters degrees, and still wanting to do another PhD. I guess the grad schools probably think I am a little loony to be wanting to cross from Chemistry to Marketing. So I have only got rejections from them, even though I think I could probably start on my thesis if they would give me access to a behavioral laboratory and access to volunteers (test subjects). Well, it looks like I am back to looking for work in earnest.

Shall I call the department about my admission status?
ootg replied to ted hudson's question in Questions and Answers
*hugs* I know that I would be an absolute mess if I called the admissions department... -
Still no news... Knowing that I'm a lot older than the average applicant, waiting a year does not help (since it would make me even older). Besides, I already have 2 masters, so I really can't be applying for an MA/MS in Marketing, can I?

I normally try to email the secretary instead of the admissions director. Some of the admissions departments just do not reply to emails.

Congratulations! How we wish to be in your position now...

I don't feel good about the schools I have left either. UCLA said that they have made their offers, but I have not got my official rejection from them. Haven't heard from the rest either, but I really don't hold much hope.

I don't think it makes a big difference between a big school or small one for transcripts. It all boils down to the staff doing it. A big and famous school still can screw up something like this. One of my schools decided to change transcript formats between my applications, such that half of my apps had an old format, and the other half had a new one! My other school refused to produce an official transcript because I was still a student and had not officially graduated yet (even though I had finished all coursework by then and was just waiting for my course to end officially). All they produced was a statement of academic progress.

All the best, martizzle!

Misery loves company, so here I am. 9 applications, and rejected by 5. Don't really hold much hope for the rest. The good thing is a no longer stay up all night checking admissions status, but am concentrating on my work at hand. As for ageism, I was warned by my professors that many schools may not consider me due to my age. It is true that with the current problems in funding, they probably want their students to have a long academic career ahead of them and not someone who is in his forties. That said, applications were especially tough this year, with record number of applicants and lower level of funding. To the many of you wishing to apply next year, I wish you all the best.

I don't think it is bad luck to ask about your admissions status this late into the game. Some schools really continue their admissions process right to the very last minute, making offers as they go along...

I wrote to UCLA and they said that offers were already made. What I don't understand is that if I was getting rejected, why did they not just inform me sooner? I still have not had any official rejection from the school to this day, although I see that some have already got their rejections. What gives? It is not as if they are doing a super-personalized rejection letter, right? -
That is truly horrible! What did the girl do to deserve such a write-off?!? No matter how bad an applicant's GPA/GRE, etc, I think that schools should handle applicants with courtesy!
-
agnel, I know what you mean. Some of the programs don't seem to have made any disclosures to anyone on the forum. I know that I am not the only applicant to some of these programs, so I am wondering why these programs are keeping us in suspense. Short of giving them a call, I'm not sure what else I can do.

I personally do not hold much hope for my applications, now that it such a late hour. A few schools have yet to tell me the results of my applications, so I guess I have to hold on and wait. Hopefully my birthday month will bring good tidings! -
And I look set to join you...

Doesn't misery love company!?!

I have a friend who has paid hundreds of dollars to get her transcripts translated. That's really a big drain on cash. Most of us have spent thousands just on applications for admissions. Let's hope it pays off!

Some schools are nice enough to respond to your emails. Others simply ignore them.
