All I can say is that you are not alone, plus the fact that you know you've been waitlisted for 2. Hang in there!

I sorry to hear about your updated status. I'm pretty sure that I'm in the same boat (just that they haven't bothered to inform me). At least you can know get on with life, rather than fretting over this day and night.

Into an ad com? I think I'll end up being chucked out for disagreeing with so many of their decisions that the admissions process would grind to a halt!

I guess you have to ask yourself why you want to go to grad school for. If you've always wanted to be an academic, then maybe you should still try to get into grad school. However, if you reason for doing grad school is to get a good job, then if one comes along before grad school, take it and don't look back. Only you know what you really want in your heart of hearts. Be honest with yourself and follow your heart... All the best!

Congratulations on landing a job! I guess you have to decide for yourself on what you really want to do. If the job will keep you happy, then go for it.

Elite Schools - Worth it for professional programs?

If you look at the MBA, then find out how strong the alumni are. The MBA is a networking opportunity, and the more alumni in important positions, the better your chance of getting one foot in the door into organizations you want to work for. Should have researched this better before I did my MBA... -
Come to think about it, it is sometimes not the academics who have such inflated opinions of themselves and their status, but the administrators. Whatever it is, I would make sure that a letter of complaint is sent to the school.

Thanks for letting me know! Now I'll have to worry about my mail deliveries too.

Congratulations! At least not everyone is ageist!

Had lunch with my boss today, and he asked me about my apps. Told him that I have been rejected by a bunch of schools, and don't hold too much hope in getting in anymore. He was trying to be positive, and told me to hang in there, and talk to him in a couple of weeks, when I am clear whether I am still headed States-side. I hope that I'll be able to continue working with him, and convert my temp status to something permanent if grad school apps fall through...

If you ever make it to Singapore, and need a local guide...

From my experience, some will email you, others email you to check the application website for results, and others do not even send you an email, but expect you to check the site yourself. As for snail mail, I've heard that it can bring both good and bad news. Not sure if snail mail is used exclusively for local students, or if they actually send snail mail to overseas applicants too. There are a number of us who have yet to hear from a number of schools. Not sure what's up with them, and whether they are still deciding on whether to take those they haven't emailed. I'm trying to think positive, that no news is good news, but I have an ugly suspicion that I'm just going to get a bunch of rejections.

I was just chatting about this waiting and not knowing with my boss over lunch. At least he has been sympathetic, and he knows that I've been putting in good work. So, I feel that I may be able to work myself into a more permanent position if things don't work out on the grad school front.

Difficult as it may be, I've realized that it is best to get on with life and not be too bothered about the applications. If it happens, it happens. Yes, we all want to be admitted, but the admissions this year have been particularly tough. At least getting on with life will give us some normality instead of this madness...

The good things is that not all institutions are so myopic. I would actually have complained to the management of the school, about how condescending the letter was.

At least we have this unofficial support group here... Can't imagine if I had to cope on my own, with an information vacuum. Somehow, knowing that I'm not alone makes me feel slightly better.

I know what you mean. I got that kind of reply from UCLA on my application, but have not received an official rejection yet. There are other schools that I haven't heard from either.
