  1. Decided not to enroll in HGSE ;( cost ended up being a big factor. Well that and whether a degree in education would help my career goals. I realize Im pretty much going to stay in the private sector
  2. A question for HGSE alumni or current students, is it true that other Harvard students look down on HGSE? I find that concerning. What is the alumni relationships like with other Harvard schools? I think if marketed right, the Harvard name should open doors even if you pursue something outside of education. Is this thinking flawed?
  3. Well I have a background in media and realized I want a career that continues to tie into media. I like this one course that allows you to produce an educational TV short. I didn't want to have to use my electives to take classes at HGSE
  4. Do the cohorts greatly differ? I am looking at the curriculum now and prefer the program and alumni, from TIE (tech, innovation and education) vs education policy and management (my current concentration). I would like to call to request a change but before I do this, I just wanted to reach out and see if I can enroll in ANY class at HGSE regardless of whether it falls under a dif cohort's class offerings
  5. Lol like I said...not the most intelligent arguments from students.
  6. I went on a tour of the school this weekend and also attended the One Harvard event....if I get the EdM degree, I know I would want to continue on to either get a business or law degree. I do second that yes students at HGSE may not be as intellectually up there as other Harvard students. ...a current HGSE student I had a convo with was detailing the types of class discussions that go on. ...not always the most intelligent arguments from students. Let me just leave it at that
  7. What complaints do you have?
  8. Did any of you attend the open house?
  9. Aid package has arrived! 17k in grants, rest loans. Wow.
  10. Education policy and management
  11. @vulpix your insight has been great. Do you have a general sense of what the alumni/recent grads end up doing/going career wise? Is it hard to leverage the Harvard EdM outside of the education sector? Does anyone do consulting?
  12. Is SIPA ever worth full tuition?? Im meeting with a current student in a few days, and he didn't receive funding
  13. Would realllyyyyy love to attend SIPA but I also applied after the fellowship consideration deadline. USC Sol Price offered half tuition
  14. Hi! I was accepted to Columbia SIPA (no funding), Harvard Graduate School of Education for Education Policy and Management (waiting on package) and USC Sol Price (half tuition). Ultimately, I am interested in studying policy and management. However, I would like to work in consulting/private sector post-grad. I would love to attend SIPA but the cost is just outrageous...however, if the alumni network and job prospects are worth it, I'll consider it. Right now, my top choice is Harvard grad considering the lower cost. I am just worried that the job prospects would not be as great as SIPA's. I am currently 24 and most of my experience is in the entertainment industry. I would love to get a policy degree, and then down the line apply my background to TV/film industry somehow. USC is am option because of this as well. HGSE has Anne Sweeney (former Disney president) as an alum, and her journey is inspiring. Either way, any insight you all can provide would be great.
