  1. It's not a dumb question at all. It is definitely possible and if that happened to you, you can let your the program you applied to know that if they admit you, you would be coming with your own funding. I heard that most programs limit the number of PhD's they admit due to budget limits and if you come with your own funding which will be the case if you win SSHRC, most programs are happy to admit you. I feel like winning SSHRC, especially CGS-D is much more competitive than getting into a PhD program. At least that's what I think.
  2. Yea it would really suck if we have to wait well into May to find out. We are already waiting for monthssss. Hopefully they'll do the same thing as last year....
  3. I knew about the tri-agency but SSHRC is the only one that's relevant to me so that's the only one I paid attention to. It's called the Joseph Armand Bombardier Scholarship. I think I'm eligible for it, since I'm in my 2nd year of my PhD program. Fingers crossed!!! I think there is an element of luck that also affects how we are ranked too. I don't know. What do you all think? Because I've heard of people winning the CGS-Joseph Armand Bombardier which is the most competitive (not including Vanier) and yet they weren't able to win FRQSC (with is a provincial scholarship from the Government of Quebec) so how is that even possible?!!! Also, does anyone know what date exactly (April 30th or May 1st?) we will find out about the results and whether it will be through the portal we applied to or through our institutions? Thank you for showing me how to "reply" to people. I had no idea it was that simple lol.
  4. I thought the CGS and SSHRC are the same thing? if you're eligible and highly ranked, they'd offer the CGS and if not you'd get the other or none...That's how it works right? Also, how do you all reply to a specific person? I can't seem to understand how that's done....
  5. @nijnata high quality camera actually sounds pretty nice too. I want one too! which one would you be getting? i don't know much about cameras. and yea I really want to do the Lasik. Hopefully, we'll all get it. Fingers crossed!!
  6. @MuchSynergyWowSoIntersec I agree! haha that sounds like fun, even though I don't really want to buy anything. I really wanted to travel to some places (Like Italy, Japan, maybe India) since I don't get to travel often but now with the pandemic that obviously isn't possible. I guess I will save the $$ until I can travel. I want to use the money for something else though, it's not really purchasing anything for myself I know. I want to have a laser eye surgery that costs around 5-6k. I could never afford it but if I get this, I will do it. I'm just so sick of wearing glasses and contacts. I just want to wake up and be able to see without aid!! I just realized how sad this makes my life look. hahaha oh well...lol. What do you all wanna buy?
  7. Yea mine disappeared too and I wasn't concerned about it. I assumed it was part of the process. How are you all feeling having to wait 2.5 more months ?
  8. That's for Postdoc though, this thread is for Doctoral applicants.
  9. Hey, Yea. I noticed there was no thread for this year so thank you for creating this one. The results are normally released on May 1st right? that's what i've read in previous threads. We still have to wait 3 whole months!!!

Nice!!! That is great. I just got mine too. I was ranked 4 out of 19 in -( Pédagogie / Formation / Systèmes d'éducation) I wonder what the cut of was though. Is it possible to tell from the letter somehow? Compétences (50) : 40,17 Projet de recherche (50) : 45,83 Total : 86,00 %

    FRQSC 2020

Don't ever loose hope and keep trying. Best of luck for your future applications. I just got my letter a few minutes ago. I'm in my 1st year, going into 2nd. It was my 1st time applying but I worked on my application for MONTHS and got a dozen of people read it. I got a bit discouraged since my SSHRC didn't pass the departmental nominations (since quota) but I didn't loose hope and really tried for FRQSC. I edited and rewrote it soooo many times. Put in a lot of work in your application and get as much feedback as you can. I think this is the main thing that helped me get it on my 1st try. I'm so blessed and grateful. I wish you all success. Cheers.

    FRQSC 2020

I really think it means yes since we were given the breakdown and the years, there is also a question that says do you accept the conditions of this offer? or the english translations says that, so I'm sure we got it. Congratulations!

    FRQSC 2020

    FRQSC 2020

Thanks. Congratulations to you too! I didn't get a letter either. I don't know who my committee was, I don't think I picked any. I changed the language, it doesn't say that LOL why is this so confusing???

    FRQSC 2020

    FRQSC 2020

That is true. The process is important and the more we write grant applications, the better we get at it. And we should all know that regardless of the results, our researches are valuable to us and there is absolutely no objectivity in the process & as much as they try to be "fair" , there is a bit of luck involved as well. Even though, I don't really believe in luck, I think who reads the applications affects the results.

1 more day everyone!!! best of luck to us all ?

    FRQSC 2020

@nomadartist I'm glad your're able to entertain yourself. I can't think of anything but the results.. ughhh the wait is killing me. but all the best and I hope we both get it!! That would be so so amazing. I didn't even apply to SSHRC so my only hope is FRQSC. By the way, do you know which subjects they prioritize by any chance?
  23. SNH

    FRQSC 2020

I don't know if it's harder than SSHRC. I heard SSHRC is much more competitive to get, considering it's a national and FRQ is provincial...I'm freaking out. How are you managing to stay calm????
  24. Thank you for your reply. I contacted a couple of professor and none of them replied. Maybe I will mention their name anyway and see how it goes. Good Luck to you too
  25. Hello Everyone, I'm also preparing my application for a couple of education programs. I am applying to PhD to two Canadian Universities: OISE and McGill. I had a question, so if the admission website doesn't make "connecting with a professor and confirming their availability for supervision" a requirement, should I apply without contacting any of the faculty? Or if I contact them and they don't reply to my email, should I mention their name in my application? Thanks!
