  1. @Mellowyellow ahh sorry for the delay; I am at a conference and only intermittently checking the café--I am not sure! I saw a waitlist go up on the boards in addition to my acceptance, but I don't know if that means they're done. If I remember right, they've notified over 2 (business?) days a few of the past years. Holding out hope for your friend! And massive massive congrats to everyone who's gotten good news over this very eventful week!!
  2. This is a little late but I GOT INTO STANFORD MODERN THOUGHT AND LITERATURE!!!!!
  3. Stupid question, but one of my biggest anxieties is accidentally committing some kind of faux pas involving titles... how do y'all address professors in your communication with them? I've been addressing them as Professor X (lol) until/unless they sign off with just their first name, at which point I just use their first name. Thoughts?
  4. Congrats to the MCM acceptance that went up yesterday!!
  5. Congrats to everyone who got in yesterday!!!! So so happy to hear people are getting into their #1s.
  6. Wow, thanks a million, @Warelin, @jrockford27, @punctilious, @FreakyFoucault, @Mellowyellow, @bumbleblu, @E. Coronaria, @Wabbajack, @M(allthevowels)H, @JustPoesieAlong, @LibraryLivingJT! You all rule; I'm really feeling the love today. Huge huge congrats to @Warelin, @la_mod, @E. Coronaria, @renea, @maengret, and others I may have missed! A great day for so many.
  7. You never know! I'm not sure what their cadence is for notifying!
  8. Thank you all for the kind words!!!! I am blown away. @jrockford27, Jacques Khalip and Timothy Bewes are my POIs in the English department, and Joan Copjec in the MCM department is my absolute academic idol. @punctilious, I got an email from the DGS. Hoping for good news for you and your husband!
  9. I GOT INTO BROWN!!!!!! I am speechless. Massive congrats to everyone who's gotten good news over the past few days while I wasn't checking this thread as closely. Y'all rock.
  10. My bad, @WildeThing--poor word choice on my part! What I meant was "I'm choosing to believe they're done, for my own sanity and need for closure" rather than "I suspect they're done"...
  11. Congrats, @la_mod, @colin_cloute, @mk-8, @maengret, @turtleducks, @HopefulRhetorician!!!! A most excellent start to the week!
  12. Waiting on Brown (both English and Modern Culture and Media), Stanford MTL, possibly Berkeley Rhetoric if they're not done accepting (but I suspect they are), and official news w/ funding from UCSC Hiscon. Yikes.
  13. Oof, that's brutal. Especially "good luck." They could also at least go with the text that I all but cut and paste into the beginning of every single email/Facebook message/letter I find myself sending to a friend or family member: "Ahh! So sorry for the extended delay getting back to you!"
  14. Right?? It's unreal. What are they even doing over that month and a half? Just e n d i t n o w already.
  15. Yup, I'm pretty much counting them out for my own sanity at this point... it seems like so few of their acceptances get captured on the survey here. Not necessarily my dream program, but to quote one of the rejectees from years past, "I had to try."
  16. I hear ya. I've basically written them off as a rejection in my mind, but am trying to remain optimistic against all hope...
  17. I know it's not exactly a rhetoric program, but anyone over here have any thoughts on Berkeley Rhetoric/the one Berkeley Rhetoric acceptance that went up the other day? Thoughts on whether they'll stagger acceptances/when to give up hope?
  18. Hey gang. In preparation for what could be a brutal week, here's the Official Implied Rejection Anthem, courtesy of the 1990s:
  19. Seconding this on quality of recruitment being predictive of quality of faculty support. My MA program--the 4+1 at my undergrad school--made it very clear that it was interested in me. Even though some of that was probably due to existing relationships I had with some faculty, I found that even professors I didn't know from undergrad were very supportive and enthusiastic about my enrolling in the program. The sense of being-recruited that I got from the program was what sold me on it, and as @jrockford27 mentioned, ultimately proved predictive of the high quality of mentoring I got during my time there. Because of this experience, I'm definitely paying close attention this season to the frequency and quality of contacts from the programs that I'm accepted/waitlisted/shortlisted at.
  20. No word over here yet either. Seems like acceptances could go out next week if historical trends continue.
  21. Congrats everyone!!!! Anyone want to claim the Berkeley Rhetoric acceptance? Details on how you were notified?
  22. Very wise advice indeed, @FreakyFoucault! There should definitely be time to squeeze one of those in. More and more I wonder if "growing up" is just the process of learning how to resist that nagging thought that you need to wrangle some kind of "productivity" out of every waking moment....
  23. I am presenting at a conference next weekend and am finding that I cannot bring myself to write my talk. Zero coherent thoughts are forming, and the lure of refreshing all my app portals every few minutes is too strong...
