Anyone else refreshing their email frantically hoping Friday is the day we'll hear?

Not really! They had mentioned I'd hear back in late February or March and asked me to provide an update if anything changes or if I have an upcoming deadline. So I let them know about the upcoming deadline I have for another school.

Sorry to hear that! Did it come through an email? Or did you check the portal?

I highly doubt they would tell you that you were accepted unless they were sure about it. I imagine that could be a tricky situation for them if they had to rescind that. There's no advantage for them to tell you these things earlier than necessary, especially if they had any doubt. So congrats What school?

Anyone want to claim that they contacted Columbia Mailman for the PhD in Environmental Health and was told we would hear back soon? It's been radio silence since I submitted (assuming not a good sign lol). Any other detail you can provide?

Depends on the school. JHU is open for instance but BU is not.

Embarking on a PhD is a significant endeavor, as you know. I would make whatever choice feels most authentic to you and is best for your over-all well being (financial, mental, physical etc) rather than deciding based on external pressure. Logistically, if you are offered a spot I believe you have until April 15th to make a decision-you won't lose the offer from Tulane until after the 15th.

I always do- reasoning is that it takes about one minute of my time to write it and someone might really appreciate it. Nobody is going to be offended if you send a thank you card, and it may even give you a little extra 'boost'

Do you all thinks it's permissible to ask if reimbursement or funding is available for invitations to interviews/recruitment before accepting an offer to interview? I received an in-person interview invitation, but I'm not too keen on purchasing airline tickets and paying for a hotel in an expensive city. Thoughts? It struck me as odd and somewhat concerning they didn't mention funding in the initial invite-and I don't think they can discriminate against you saying you can only do a Skype interview/phone call yeah? As grad students we aren't exactly rolling in $$$. Maybe I'm being overly frugal though!

@hccgrl I had an informal interview/chat with a professor but not a formal one. It was pretty much just direct admit. I'm also Toxicology and EH - just fyi.

I think there system is weird-sometimes it tells me I have the wrong password when I'm like 99.99% I do not and I have to reset my password just to log in. Essentially it was just a new hyperlinked line that said "Decision available" - I clicked on it and led me to a page with my decision. (Or maybe a PDF). Question: Did you apply for FASFA yet? Sort of confused if we have to do that given PhDs are funded yeah? I'm going to ask Evelyn tomorrow.

I agree with @beepboopbeepboop. Also, I doubt students have much information or insight into the admissions process.

Congrats! I've been really impressed by UMD so far. I applied to Toxicology and Environmental Health and received an unofficial acceptance from my contact a week or two ago. Do you think you'll go if admitted? It would be great to chat to other people interested in the school! I'm at another MD school now for my MPH but have not had the best experience...so UMD is very appealing right now!

Fingers crossed for you! It was just sent out by an administrator I think - so perhaps they are sending them individually/still working on the invites
