  1. I have not accepted admission just yet, I would like to ask for an extension as I haven’t heard back from UCB. UCB, CSUEB then SJSU in that order.
  2. Hi there, i am in the exact same prediciament, I need to let CSUEB know by 3/2 but there is no word yet from UCB which is my top choice. I’m conderidng asking for an extension. My SJSU status says “refered to graduate department” which apparently means they received my transcripts and have forwarded to grad dept. Did you submit your final transcripts to GAPE? http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/status-grad.html http://ischool.sjsu.edu/programs/mlis/application-process/tracking-your-application These links are for SJSU.
  3. Hi I applied to UCB, CSUEB and SJSU, what about yourself?
  4. Hi there, I submitted my CSUEB app (in person) the day before it was due 12/14/2017, The letter was dated February 13, this arrived in the mail. I live in in the east bay.
  5. Hi everybody I submitted my application to SJSU possibly a week or two before the due date so I would say mid January. I am am also applying for title I V-E.I checked today and it says that it is referred to grad department, so now the wait continues. I received my letter of admission today from CSUEB, the waiting continues. If I am completely honest SJSU is my third choice only because I don’t know much about the programm, does anybody have any information to share I know that they have a multidisciplinary concentration which is pretty much you get a little bit of everything but I’m wondering if anybody has any specifics on why this might be their top choice?
  6. Hi just an update, I received my letter of admission to CSUEB today February 20 the notice was marked February 13 and arrive through the mail. I also reached out to UCB and this is the response they’ve given me so far as a status update: “Thanks for reaching out. I've copied a message below from Catharine Ralph, our Title IV-E Project Coordinator, regarding the review process and timeline. I've cc'd her as well, so she can answer follow-up questions if you have any. Best, Emiko -- I've read all the IV-E files, & each one is also being read at least one other faculty member. After we're all done, we combine our IV-E applicants' paper-work scores with those of your interviewers. It's time-intensive for us, & for you, the timeline must be difficult. In a nutshell I expect we'll notify applicants in early March thru early May, if not before. This gives enough time for faculty to complete their reading tasks and deliberative meetings, and allows us to uphold the national grad-school agreements around people accepting university offers by 15 April. That date causes some wait-listed people to wait extra-long, until after some original offers are declined or their time expires, allowing us to back-fill those new openings with offers to those next on our wait list. We hope you'll be as patient as all that. Best wishes, -- Catharine R.”
  7. I can totally relate, I found this forum when I was applying for the 2018 Fall, but I can see the 2017 Fall had so much more involvement and participation.
  8. Hi, I just wanted to share that from my understanding if you applied for the MSW title lV–E program you could be finding out as early as this week. Last year they completed interviews on March 1 and admissions emails went out March 15 for this specific concentration. That being said this year final interviews were on February 1 so I’m hoping to find out by February 15.
  9. Hi, I apply to CSU Eastbay, SJSU, UCB for the MFW title IV-E program. What about yourself, did you apply for some of the MSW programs?Hi, I apply to CSU Eastbay, SJSU, UCB for the MFW title IV-E program. What about yourself, did you apply for some of the MSW programs?
  10. Hi there, I’m happy to found your post. From my understanding if you applied to the MSW title IV-E then you can be finding out as early as this week if you applied to another concentration I could not help you. Best of luck to you I see that you applied to the MSW program, I hope we both get in! What concentration did you apply for?
  11. Hi I am so happy to have found your post! I also applied for UCB’s MSW Title IV-E program, my interview was on January 31 at 9:30 AM. I will copy and paste a post from my interview at the end of this. But I wanted to add that from my understanding we should be finding out this week if not next week! Last year they did their last interviews on March 1 and people found out by March 15 so a total of 14 day waiting. This year they did the interviews earlier and are expecting to let us know sooner from what Catherine Ralph told me. That being said final interviews were completed on February 1st so I am hoping that following the trend we should be finding out by the 15th. I also applied for CSUEB and SJSU. I hope we both get in, best of luck! I applied for the 2018 UCB MSW Title IV-E program and I interviewed on January 31, 2018. The interview itself was pretty straightforward as others have mentioned, it is a panel interview from 2 to 3 people, mine consisted of three people, two previous students and one current administrator I believe. They were all really friendly and that put me at ease, it was six questions in total I was in there for about a half hour. Below is a list of the six questions I was asked for the 2018 interview. There was a total of 50 interviewed for the IV-E program and they will accept only 16. 1. Why do you want to work in child welfare? 2. How do you communicate or connect with other people from various backgrounds and cultures?(cultural competency) 3. How do you get people to open up to you or communicate with you when they’re going through difficult situations? 4. You are given a paper with a list of tasks A child welfare worker would encounter and you are to rank them from what is the most important and explain your answers. 5. What do you know about child welfare? 6. What are some of the challenges that you have faced at work ?
  12. Thanks for the kind words! This forum has helped me so much so I was just want to pay it forward. I am going to look for that FB group now.

  14. I haven’t really seen any trends on this but it’s worth applying. You would be paying higher out of state tuition so I don’t see why a school would deny a qualified student who will be paying more. That’s my own opinion. All the best to you.
  15. HI, I am also applying for Title IV-E at UCB, CSUEB and SJSU, I had the opportunity to meet with their respective Title IV-E coordinators sometime in 10/2017 and from what I gathered the questions are straight forward : what lead you to social work, what experiences do you have that have prepred you to work with children and families in child welfare system, what would you want to do with a MSW. I am sure there is much more information but this is what i can remember, just to clarify i did not have not interviewed for Title IV-E yet. I work for my local county's social service agency and they came to present to employees as we are offered priority. Best of luck to you!!
