I officially committed to NYU! I sent in my deposit so I couldn't change my mind. lol

3.4 GPA, plenty of volunteer and work experience in the field, I am also advanced standing. I say go ahead and apply! What is your GPA? Do you have experience? They gave me a 15,000 scholarship.

Anyone officially attending NYU?

Yes, my friend who is African-American said she often got questioned if she truly attended Columbia and would receive a lot of unwanted attention because of her skin color. So I would not doubt what your friend said at all. But you know, Columbia is for some people and not for others.

My friend said NYU offered her more money than Columbia but she told Columbia and they gave her more so she could attend. Just reach out to them about it.

Yeah, as a minority being at a diverse school is important to me and to have supportive programs and representation is important as well.

I can't remember if I posted it in this one or another Columbia thread but she said the support isn't really there vs NYU students have more support and opportunities for their students. She also said Columbia sold her on diversity but in all actuality, the diversity is truly lacking, especially as a minority. She said NYU has more of the diversity and inclusion aspect vs Columbia. But, she said the work is easy at Columbia and you are really just paying for the Ivy League name. She personally told me not to attend Columbia because it isn't really worth it to her.

Check out http://readingprograms.org/ to see if they do it in your area. It's basically a summer job, I plan to do this!

I just finished visiting Pittsburgh, but I think I am going to attend NYU. After talking to my friend who currently attends Columbia, I no longer want to attend.

If you are going to reapply next year, look into doing City Year or another AmeriCorp program, they will offer more scholarship opportunities! There are options for summer, one year, or two year. Will attend Columbia even if they scholarship is not much?

Well at least you have other schools! I would remain positive about the wait but don't let it jeopardize other opportunities.

I can absolutely see how that happened to you! The school is nice but the city itself is kind of tough.

That's one of the reasons I am torn between Pitt and NYU. The concentration aspect is getting me.

You accepted their offer? How did you feel when you visited? Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? And UW rejected me unfortunately, it was definitely a reach for me (especially being advanced standing).

I'd say go for it. There are people on this thread that are declining their offer, so it will free up some scholarship money.

I am visiting this coming week, if I like it, I will attend.

I know you can email them gradtours@pitt.edu and hopefully they can coordinate with the SSW.

I am nervous to make a commitment to a school. Sound crazy, but I just keep thinking, what if I end up hating either choices.

Anyone for sure attending? I wonder if so many people decline their offer, if they'll increase financial aid upon request?

Honestly, the only difference to me is the city. I am from the midwest but I have lived in TN, FL, as well. I don't plan on laying roots in Pitt at all. But I like the HSV concentration aspect versus NYU don't really have that.
