My decision keeps fluctating, but if I like Pitt when I visit next week, I may choose to go there. I have to make a decision by the 15th.

Columbia Social Work Program Fall 2018
TooExcited&Nervous replied to lanabeni's topic in Social Workers Forum
She said the support isn't really there vs NYU students have more support and opportunities for their students. She also said Columbia sold her on diversity but in all actuality, the diversity is truly lacking, especially as a minority. She said NYU has more of the diversity and inclusion aspect vs Columbia. But, she said the work is easy at Columbia and you are really just paying for the Ivy League name. She personally told me not to attend Columbia because it isn't really worth it to her. -
Columbia Social Work Program Fall 2018

Well the good thing is Penn/Philly is only an hour and half away. So it would be an easy move after school if you decide to go to Penn. I have a friend that is in Columbia's MSW program (advanced standing) and she tells me she wishes she would have gone to NYU instead. -

For those who are still waiting but absolutely wants to live in NY. Fordham is still accepting applications. -

I am honestly trying to decide on whether I want to attend NYU or UPitt. The cost is going to be about the same for me, which is making my decision hard.

There's the New MSW NYU page already. I honestly would not have the money to move until August. I plan to work hard all summer.

It is just super weird. I am 95% sure I am not attending Columbia anyways, but would be nice to know if I got in. lol -

I truly understand what you are saying. Although I am from the Mid-West, so some of that stuff is the norm unfortunately. However, the school sounds great but as a minority, certain things do concern me. I honestly debating between NYU and Pitt. I wish UCLA had advanced standing, it would make my decision much easier. Schools are good for saying a place is diverse and I am not trying to get duped again (my freshman year was terrible before I transferred). I appreciate your honest comment as an outsider. I think most of my comments came from those from Pittsburgh, so they may be a little more biased. If Pitt does not off a decent amount for scholarship, then I may end up at NYU. But I will for sure know once I visit the actual campus in a few weeks. -

How did you like Pitt when you went there? I am from out of state as well and I am curious about the environment. -

I definitely agree! I think I will go even if I am not given a scholarship. My top three schools will cost the same unless Pitt gives a really hefty scholarship (which I doubt). But nothing is set in stone. -

I know the deadline for Pitt is March 16, all my other schools gave me until March 15. But I will probably commit to Pitt after I visit during my spring break. -

Yes it is really weird. I received a final deadline for the 15th. This is like my third time extended my acceptance lol

Fall 2018 Application
TooExcited&Nervous replied to TooExcited&Nervous's topic in Social Workers Forum
I am sorry, but yes, advanced standing. I believe they heard back first. -
You can ask them to extend the date. They told me they offer packages after you accept, which is weird to me.

Fall 2018 Application
TooExcited&Nervous replied to TooExcited&Nervous's topic in Social Workers Forum
I applied to all my schools by the priority deadline. Also, my professor wanted me to submit as early as possible so they didn't have a bunch of letters to write at once (within my cohort). Don't worry though, you should hear back soon. The first deadline to accept the offer was Friday. So, second waves of letters should be going out. -
Fall 2018 Application
TooExcited&Nervous replied to TooExcited&Nervous's topic in Social Workers Forum
They are very picky with financial aid. They did not give me anything, nor did they give anything to the people in my cohort that applied.
