  1. Update: just got an email from Weill Cornell's travel people
  2. Hey friends! Yes, there are 2 interview dates (I know this because I was initially invited to the later one but couldn't go so they switched me to the earlier group) -- Jan. 17-19 and Feb. 7-9. I also haven't heard anything from the travel folks yet about arrangements for two weeks from now, but I have to assume we'll be contacted pretty soon... right?!
  3. Hey @Rampaige! I'm going to the NYU interview on Jan. 24-26, so hopefully we'll run into each other there! Til then, see you on the other forum
  4. Someone mentioned being able to find a database for this in another thread, but I've been unsuccessful. Does anyone know how to find the rates of admission for interviewed applicants? (I know it varies by field and school, but I figure folks in other fields might be interested in this as well!)
  5. My parents are both lawyers, so they're like "WTF is this, how did we end up with a kid doing biosciences??" and the whole PhD process is super foreign to all of us. Plenty of my family did post-graduate professional degrees (like lawyers and dentists and stuff) but to my knowledge nobody in my extended family has gone the academia route. It's weird!! I'm definitely lucky to have had good mentors in undergrad, both professors/PIs and current grad students to talk to about the process, because I seriously don't know what I'd have done without them.
  6. WHERE have you been finding stats on how many interviewees get acceptances????? I've been hunting everywhere and can't seem to find any resources!
  7. So do schools usually send out invites in waves? I'm new to this process (and the site too lol) so tbh have no idea what "normal" looks like... I've just been kind of stalking the results page under neuroscience and just assuming I was rejected whenever people post about getting invites to schools that I applied to and didn't hear from
  8. Idk if this helps in your situation at all, but my experience with getting coffees was fine! I was at a conference in my field and emailed some professors I was interested in ahead of time and most were amenable if not enthusiastic about meeting for coffee (one even had breakfast with me!!). I think it depends on how you phrase it, and especially if you're applying in that cycle and to their program instead of vaguely ~might apply sometime in the future~. I wouldn't overthink it too much though, just keep it informational and professional
  9. They emailed me around 5 EDT on the 13th, it's for the Graduate Program in Neuroscience, and the dates are a choice of February 6-7 or 7-8.
  10. Someone made a similar thread last year just to have a separate thread for neuroscience PhD applications for the 2018 cohort. Hopefully it'll help reduce a little bit of the interview/decisions anxiety if we're all in the same boat!
  11. Did y'all end up making a new thread on the Biology forum?
  12. I'm also a neuro kid applying this year, and from what I can tell, some send out in December, but others are later (for example Stanford has on their website that the earliest they'll send interview invites is 8 January 2018). Try not to stress out too much friendo! It's a long time to be on edge though :/ But I'd say don't start to panic unless you get to end of January and haven't heard ANYTHING.
  13. Hey there! I got an invite to interview for Duke's Cognitive Neuroscience Admitting Program yesterday (very much out of the blue) -- dates are Feb. 23 and 24. That's the only school I personally have heard from yet, but from stalking the results page from previous years, the season appears to be upon us... Good luck to everyone!!!
  14. Hey folks -- I'm getting more and more worried about this year because my list is pretty much all top schools after a grad student friend advised me to only apply to schools I /really want to go to/ my first year out of college.
