  1. Just received unofficial acceptance from Princeton MolBio, which makes me think that the official notice is coming out soon! That's officially a wrap for me on hearing back from programs. Good luck to those still waiting to hear back!
  2. Not usually unless you have a GPA <3.0 or some other disqualifying mark on your application that the general graduate division might require of students. Oftentimes it is just a formality before official notices can be sent.
  3. You could try the US News rankings or QS rankings if that's the type of stuff you're looking for. Or the Wikipedia list of R1, R2, etc.
  4. I think this is highly dependent on what you want to study. Also, there are places like Rockefeller and Cold Spring Harbor which have excellent programs but don't carry the same name recognition in the public due to the fact that they don't have any undergrads. Personally, I think that the best resource for finding out the quality of a program is to talk to your advisor or others in the field you want to join, as they will know the type and strength of research that comes out of each institution.
  5. Something to consider is that your research interests may change as you do rotations/take classes and get exposure to other kinds of work. I know a big consideration for me was to find a program that had strengths in multiple fields that I have potential interest in.
  6. I didn't work at the DGP but had a lot of chances to talk to faculty while I've been in Chicago. If you're interested in big picture things, I can suggest people like Marc Mendillo and Dai Horiuchi who are interested in the tumor microenvironment (i.e. interactions of tumor cells with surrounding stromal tissue, which would have some relevance to cancer immunology) as well as labs like the Platanias, Kiyokawa, and Wan lab who are interested in large scale cellular changes in tumorigenesis.
  7. I'm not as familiar with UTSW other than that it's a great research institution, so I can't really comment on it. If you have any questions about the DGP or life in Chicago, though, I can answer those.
  8. Thanks! I'm pretty excited. Congrats to you too! Also something to keep in mind is that the DGP is aggressively expanding right now and hiring tons of new faculty. So by the time you would pick a lab, they would have a lot of new research directions/mentors to choose from.
  9. Very happy to say that I've officially committed to MIT! Congrats to those who are in the same position, and good luck to those still waiting. I'm still waiting on a few fellowship decisions so the season isn't completely over for me, but it is a relief to know where I'll be for the foreseeable future. I hope everyone can experience this feeling!
  10. Boston University just sent out admissions decisions via email (CM, not PiBS).
  11. For those moving cross country, how are you planning on doing it?
  12. Congratulations on your acceptance to WashU! To those waiting to hear back from Boston College Bio, I just received the official notification through snail mail!
  13. Are you a domestic or international applicant? Generally there is a different timeline for international applications, so that may be why you are experiencing a difference.
  14. So happy for you! Glad to see you had a great cycle - you should definitely go out and celebrate.
  15. Hey good luck at Princeton! I was just there this past weekend and had a great time.
  16. I heard back from Boston College informally. They said official results should be out soon.
  17. I met someone this past weekend who heard back from Scripps and will be interviewing at the end of the month.
  18. It may also be when the deadlines are. Most of my schools had deadlines on Dec 1st, whereas other programs have later dates.
  19. Second acceptance from Boston College! Received an informal email from a professor I've been in contact with about their offer and that I've been nominated for a fellowship (which provides a hefty bonus to my stipend for five years). Good luck to those going to the upcoming interview weekend!
  20. Yeah, I'm still checking everything and jump every time I get an email even though I've heard back from nearly all of my applications and won't get any other results until later.
  21. I've heard that it can range from 50-70% for programs
