Ah then the small time slot would make more sense. No it is not an estimate, I remember it being on a rejection letter posted on the results page last year. Here they mention 2778 applications for the 2014-2015 cycle, apparently obtained by the department so it should be an official number- https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-admission-statistics-for-top-schools-in-computer-science-information-science-and-computer-engineering I think the number increases every year.

I'm pretty sure each group has already a list and they just need to coordinate or tell each other what's happening... otherwise yeah, that doesn't sound like enough time to talk about 3500+ applications!

The calendar (make sure you select all rooms at https://calendars.mit.edu/Pages/CalendarViews/MonthView.aspx?OrganizationId=9&RoomId= ) shows that there will be a "CIRC grad admissions" meeting on the 26th of January!

By the way, any international applicants here that had to submit IELTS scores? I had mine sent to MIT but they don't appear in the "Test Score Status" page. I know they say not to worry but just wondering if they were supposed to appear there or it was reserved for TOEFL only (which has an automated system unlike IELTS).

Where do you see that entry? I can't find it on http://web.mit.edu/registrar/calendar/ EDITS: whoops wrong calendar

CSAIL, systems area. Yeah well if I don't receive any answer when everyone else gets accepted I'll just assume I've been rejected, it seems to be a safe assumption.
-
I was also wondering this. However looking at past years' trends the acceptances are out the first or second week of February. Which area did you apply to?
-
I know they also admit without. In fact I think the majority of admits are without interview.

I'm starting to see some interviews for MIT EECS. Anybody in the forum that got it and can share their area of research?

Some people have nothing better to do. They probably think it's funny. EDIT: I agree that since it's blatantly fake it doesn't really matter. The problem is when fake results for real programs are posted.
-
I can imagine there's a link somewhere in the portal where you made your application? I applied to EECS so I may have a different portal than yours (and I still haven't received a decision so can't help more). I'm talking about the portal at https://gradapply.mit.edu/

How to evaluate the tier of a Conference or Journal?
minuto replied to nicelhc13's topic in Computer Science
If you google you can find some rankings with impact factor and other metrics. You can also ask your supervisor or a professor in the field. -
Undergrad institution: Recently-founded (20 years) university in Europe Major: Computer Science Overall GPA: 4.00/4.00 Class Ranking: Best of university since foundation (attested by LOR from head of department) Type of Student: International, European IELTS: 8.5 GRE: Not taken Research Experiences: Undergrad research, SE internship research focused at top 5 industry in CS, Research internship at same top 5 industry, currently doing one year research Master at top 5 UK university. Publications: One publication in top journal (pending review, but accepted extended abstract, unfortunately not my main field of interest), one patent with top 5 industry (very relevant to my field interest). Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Various scholarship at my undergrad including exchange programme scholarship and merit scholarship. Got distinction in my undergrad. Internships: See Research Experiences. Perspective Direction: Systems, Performance Optimization, Verification. Strengths: Definitely good LORs, one from a very well know researcher in my field that worked with a Turing award, one from the head of my undergrad department who was my research supervisor. Two additional LORs that are also very good. Applying to Where: MIT EECS PhD Programme (F18). Will try again next year (since I will be able to take the GRE) to apply to more schools.

How Common/Crucial are PhD Interviews?
minuto replied to NerdyGooner's question in Questions and Answers
I can't answer (1), but I can definitely assure you that declining an interview means you're not considered anymore. Think of it as declining a job interview. When a program wants to interview you it is because either it's a university/department-wide policy as part of the application process, or because they want to know more about you. If they wanted to accept you without interview, they would do so, and don't offer you an interview at all.- 4 replies

I'm doing a one year master's in the UK, didn't have time to do the GRE and MIT is the only one that doesn't require it. Also my dream group is there. In the very likely case I don't get in, I'll try again next year with more schools and the GRE. I have secured a job in that case anyway. I have research experience , very strong LORs and maximum GPA for undergrad. I still have (very little) hope! Have you heard anything from any of the universities you applied to? I know an ex PhD student from Cornell and that would have been my second choice!

Hey, I'm another CS PhD applicant. Applying only to MIT, what about you?
-
I know many PhD students in multiple EU countries and they definitely TA. Most of the TAs I had during my undergraduate were PhD students.

Hi, Anyone applying to MIT EECS PhD programme this year? Does anybody know when they'll start considering applications? Results on the gradcafe main site vary in dates every year. I'd guess February? January if they invite you to an interview?
