  1. If you want to get training in quantitative methods, Columbia MA is not the best place to be. Their program is heavily qualitative orientated. In fact, they suggested on their website that students who want quantitative training should go for their QMSS program http://qmss.columbia.edu/.
  2. There are some fully/partially funded programs in sociology/social sciences I know: MA. in social sciences/computational social sciences at the University of Chicago, MA for sociology from Boston University, MA at DePaul etc. But I think @Madelene is also right in point out how difficult it is to get a fully funded offer for Master's programs. Plus, even if tuition can be waived, living as a student is still costly.
  3. Hi @abenz , I absolutely agree with you that it may seem insincere for me to talk about not being defeated by rejections because I've had excellent offers. But trust me, I have been at the same, if not worse, position as many others. In 2015, I, as a hopeful and young undergrad, applied to 10 sociology PhD programs and received 10 rejections. No news, no interview, no waitlist. It almost felt like there was no hope, and I suffered from anxiety and depression during that time. That is why I understand how it feels like when you associate your rejections with your self-worth. I went through months of counseling before I could pick myself back up. I applied to some sociology master's programs around their deadlines and was luckily admitted to one of the strongest MA programs in sociology with a sizable scholarship. I did not reapply in 2016 due to my coursework, but I have spent my time to contemplate on what kind of sociologist I want to become. When I reapplied this year, I told myself that even if I don't get in, I'd still have all the skills and knowledge with me, and I can always reapply when I am ready. I hope my story will help those who feel like they are failing their lives because of the rejections. Please feel free to PM me if you want someone to talk to.
  4. I claim one of the UChicago acceptances. I also want to tell people who haven’t had good news yet that their work is precious and important. I hope you can stay strong. Getting an admission is surely an excellent source of validation, but please know that you worth more than any offer.
  5. Wow! That sounds very promising. Given the large volume of applicants to Harvard every year, they probably will and can only pay attention to those who are on the long/shortlist.
  6. Don't give up just yet! Rutgers sent out their acceptance on Sunday morning, so there can be unexpected good news coming up during the weekend
  7. I've been feeling confident until when I saw the Austin offers I think at this point I am really wishing for nothing but a department that will give me a funded offer. Please, any school ! So stressed out! Congrats to everyone who got in!
  8. Did you get a second interview request from a different professor at Chicago? I received a request from a different professor even prior to when I had the first interview, which was very confusing.
  9. I claim the Rutgers interview. So excited! I tend to believe that interviews serve more of a symbolic purpose --- when I interviewed with Chicago, it was basically the professor asking me if I had any question about their department.
  10. @latemegThanks a lot! This is really helpful. Hopefully I can secure this offer!
  11. Hi, so I was the lucky one that made it to the UChicago short list. Anyone knows what kind of questions will be asked in the interview?
