  1. Congrats! I'm so happy for you! (I'm out of reactions again... why can't I like EVERYTHING?)
  2. Thanks @la_mod for the encouragement. I'm out of reactions for today. I just can't help but feel that programs aren't interested in me (I was shut out last year). I've taken 72 college credits in English, the majority of them upper level. I have three conference presentations, specialized scholarships and awards in English from my university , I've been a research assistant at an undergraduate and graduate level, and I took my first graduate level class when I was at 19. When you take graduate level classes when you are 19, nobody takes you seriously. My MA GPA is a 3.65. I did my BA/MA program at program ranked between 25-35 for reference. And there you have it: the cost of overzealous, eager learning. A 3.65. I just can't compete with those 4.0s.
  3. True, but historically they make VERY few offers to people who already have MA degrees. It's possible, but unlikely.
  4. So I'm (implied) out for Penn State, Notre Dame, OSU, and Wisconsin-Madison. Shitty day.
  5. I think, like me, you're just having a bad day. Chin up!
  6. @JustPoesieAlong was that OSU waitlist you? I’m at work and I haven’t checked all the threads. Hope it is you!!
  7. Yes! I behaved myself and only checked it once this weekend, but I checked it this morning and I’m still in perpetual pergatory. HALP.
  8. I’m 23. I finished my MA just as I turned 22. Shut out last year & I don’t have any acceptances this round either.
  9. Hopefully I’ll hear something from Penn State. Additionally, I’m hoping on some clarification on my Notre Dame status (no rejection, no invite). ALSO I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM OSU. Is this hell?
  10. Happy Sunday night, y'all! Here's to another long week of being breathless and reckless.
  11. The portal reports that no decision has been made on my application. It's possible that since my last name is a v, w, x, y, or z that the poor administrator sending out all the rejection emails hasn't sent my rejection yet.
  12. That's a nice thought! I really resent my MA though. I can't help but feel that the MA hurts rather than helps.
  13. I'm so glad this thread is well being well received. I was a little nervous to put it up with the implied negativity. But there's nothing wrong with feeling blue! Also, it's easier to lament+worry when it's not on the same thread with everyone who (deservedly) is receiving the most amazing news! I'm dealing with the radio silence from OSU and Notre Dame. Rejections went out for Notre Dame today, but I didn't get one. Hence my desire for this thread and the use of @FreakyFoucault 's fabulous naming skills. P.S. Don't worry about Emory. You'll get in somewhere better
  14. A thread for those of us who have more to talk about on the rejection side of things...
  15. Almost just started a thread called "Projected Rejections" because it felt so appropriate. Happy Friday, everyone!
  16. Does anyone have any insight concerning Notre Dame? Looks like rejections were finally posted, but I didn't receive an email and my portal said that no decision has been made. Obviously, I didn't get an interview so I'm not being considered... I'm just a little confused. My last name is an v, w, x, y, or z-- so maybe it's just an alphabetical thing and they'll get to me later? Can't they just rip the band-aid off?!
  17. Congrats bumbleblu! Can I ask what your area is?
  18. Welp, glad I have two containers of gelato at home.
  19. Mine is still pending as well. Congrats to @FreakyFoucault!
  20. It's a difficult perspective to cultivate. Of course everyone wants a slew of acceptances! But when I really examined my motivations-- what I wanted from my life-- I came to the same conclusion you did. I want more than an office job can offer me. Social media/copy&content writing is a great path, too. I don't have that creative spark. My research is creative, but I could never write copy. Unless, of course, my supervisor was interested in REALLY bad puns. I agree-- between the time spent on the GRE and rewriting everything from the previous cycle, I just didn't have it in me to approach new research with my usual vigor. My writing sample is the distillation of work spanning several years, and reading it to butcher it (to fit writing sample requirements) really hindered my ability to approach it with the same curiosity and love.
  21. I'm in a strikingly similar situation! I work on programming for faculty research in the humanities. I'm always working with faculty members concerning their exciting research topics, while mine begins to wither away. It's hard to continue working on my own research with commuting + full-time + the general nonsense that comes with being an adult.
  22. Thank you! I think I just have the one edge now, particularly after being shut out last year. I only applied to schools that could support my research, so I just need one yes. I am fortunate enough to have a full-time administration job at a university, so I'll be okay if I don't get in. I'm trying to be more grateful for that. I'm just desperate for something a little more intellectually fulfilling. I hope you receive some good news soon! You have a fantastic list of schools.
  23. @Warelin Congratulations on Illinois! You must be so excited. Yes, I'm getting the sense that I'm not at all prepared for the next six weeks. My original plan was to apply to 17 schools, but I stopped after my eleventh application. I probably should have applied to 17...
