  1. Hi everyone--I haven't been on the forum that actively both because it's been crazy at work this week and for sanity's sake. Congratulations to everyone on their acceptances and interviews! I did get clarity on NYU, though, today. It seems like they have already sent out all interview requests for finalists, who will go through that process at their open house on March 7th. Final admission offers will be made after that point, but, for those of us who haven't gotten interview requests, most likely we're out. And @gopxgo : I had my interview last week but haven't heard back. I'm kind of bracing for them putting me on the waitlist, but based on the results survey they haven't sent out any acceptances yet. The timeline they had given was that they would be letting folks know of acceptances by the end of this week.
  2. @punctilious: just saw that and was going to ask, too. My gut tells me no, and that it’s a Comp Lit (or some other discipline) that was mis-entered. But maybe they did rejections first and everyone on this forum is accepted?
  3. I have a question: how locked in are funding offers? In whatever document/terms you sign onto when you accept a funding offer, is there any type of clause that gives the school the right to rescind or renegotiate funding in future years, even in the case of good performance by the student? I ask only because, even if this week's stock market woes are fake news, there's still a not insignificant chance that the economy takes a downturn sometime while we're all in grad school. Should that happen, and money potentially dries up, would schools still be required to abide by the terms of their offer letters? I wonder how this was handled for students entering programs ~2006.
  4. Congrats @DatGuy and @jshaarawi! That’s so great! Didnt get the email, but I guess I can hold out hope another week? My feelings are kind of mixed right now. On the one hand I got my first acceptance (Rutgers), but I’m very unsure about how my CUNY interview went. I have a feeling that’ll turn out to be a waitlist situation.
  5. Thanks @Mellowyellow and @unicornsarereal! That's a relief. Now onto finding other ways to not do my job right now...
  6. I didn't apply to any UC's, but I guess this question still might be relevant to other schools: if there's been no activity with your application in the portal since December (no dates for when different components were marked "received" or something similar since then), could that at all reasonably be interpreted as a sign that they don't care at all about your application? I may kind of be spiraling.
  7. adcomm, bourgeois elite: we regret to inform you that your app-- me: actually i am in the bloom of life like the sun in the morning. this department belongs to me know
  8. Ugh. Probably shouldn't have spent most of my SOP talking about how one of my professional goals is to have a Comp Lit department serve as the launching point and ground zero of a Maoist insurgency...
  9. Potentially? Both of the ones posted are international-based, so maybe it’s also related to either confirming English capability or, since the MacCracken Visiting Day is on March 7th, giving enough lead time for making travel arrangements.
  10. Congratulations! Also, someone just posted an NYU interview on the results survey. So many programs that I didn't even remotely think would interview are interviewing...
  11. The only thing I can add to @colin_cloute to be at all helpful is that Columbia interviews seem to be heavily dependent on the applicant's subfield. One person that posted an interview in the results survey last year confirmed that they were doing Renaissance studies, so at least that subfield seems like it interviews more than others.
  12. Another Brown acceptance went up this morning. Congratulations to whoever that is! Based on the historical results survey, it doesn't look like they interview, but who knows. Does anyone know how and when NYU informs? The results survey is all over the place. Last year it looks like everything started in March, but I can't tell if that was just folks getting off of the waitlist. Before 2017, it looks like they were pretty consistent in starting notifications around February 9th...
  13. Hi @Jožin z bažin: long time lurker, first time poster here. Congratulations! I think it depends on the program, but the two interviews I've had so far (CUNY and Rutgers) have been pretty casual. On your end, you'll mostly be just talking about your research interests and why you think Penn would be a good fit for you. Whoever you're interviewing with will talk about the program itself and answer any questions you have at this stage. I'd say half of the point of these is to give them a clearer sense of who you are outside of your written applications--whether you're as intelligent and committed as your SOP indicates, if you'd be pleasant to work with, etc. The other purpose is to start selling you on the program and begin pre-planning how to work with you. That's just my sense of it, though. Did you get the idea that Penn is done notifying about interviews, or if there are still more to come out this week?
