Hello again, MtnDuck! Thank you for this information. I really appreciate it. Two follow up questions: (i) Any idea whether those two folks will accept their offers? Just wondering whether, and to what degree, they will dip into their waitlist this round. (ii) How do you like the program thus far? I realize both of these questions might be better addressed via DM, so that'd be fine with me. Thanks again.

I'm currently waitlisted at UW-Seattle, and I'd like more information. I've emailed them, but they've indicated that they can't give much more information other than that I'm waitlisted. It seems it's their policy to not release much information about the ranking of the waitlist, if there is such a ranking. So, for those waitlisted or in the know re: that department: any idea if the waitlist is ranked? For those in the program or accepted: any idea what class size they are after this year? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone here waitlisted at UW-Seattle? I gather that they keep quiet with respect to ranking---this could have to do with it being a, strictly speaking, non-ranked list, but I'm not sure. Anyone have a clue whether it's ranked?

Thank you for this information. 4 seems like a rather low cohort, and would be very unfortunate for my chances. Did they say so explicitly?

I know of a few applicants who have declined either their offer or waitlist spot at UW-Seattle. I'm wondering whether anyone knows of any movement on that waitlist. Judging from gradcafe alone, it appears that no such movement has taken place, but that doesn't seem quite right given how far we are in the season. Thoughts?

This thread has been woefully silent.

I was wondering if anyone had any more information about the waitlist process at UCLA. They say their waitlist isn't ranked, but I know that some have reported having a better chance than others of getting off their waitlist. Are there any applicants here that are currently accepted/waitlisted that plan on declining?
-
Yeah, I have no idea how to interpret such things. My guess is that the waitlist is quasi-ranked according to AOI. But I really don't know.
-
I'm guessing you mean UW-Seattle? If so, I'm also curious. I wish they would release more information about their waitlist; I've asked about more info, but they don't give any specific details as a matter of policy.

Finally rejected from British Columbia.

Alright, folks. Let's get this declination train a' movin!
-
Riverside is notorious for keeping silent until very late in this process—that is, for those not initially accepted. I was waitlisted last year, but didn't know about it until mid April.
-
That's incredible! Congrats. Again, if I may, what was your sample on?
-
If I may, where do you plan on going?
-
I realize this is a rather late reply, but I know that UCSB has sent out acceptances. Their accepted students visited recently. However, I do not know whether they have sent out rejections or waitlist decisions yet.
-
I'm wondering if someone would be willing to contact British Columbia on my behalf to ask what's happening with their waitlist. They released acceptances and rejections quite awhile ago, but there has been no report of waitlists. I'm scared and desperate. Help me.
-
Now if only I could get intel like this about British Columbia. I've got nothing. And nobody seems to know what is going on with their waitlists.
-
Anyone know of anyone waitlisted at British Columbia? I'm curious why—judging from the gradcafe survey alone—they haven't released any waitlist decisions, given that they've released acceptances and rejections. Anyone have a clue?
-
It's typical that you send an email. NIU, from what I can recall, is in the minority in their declination process.
-
Also waitlisted at UW-Seattle. Long story short: this program is *very* important to me. So if you're planning on declining, please do so asap.

Deciding between Tufts and other MA programs

I just wanted to comment on the last bit. This is absolutely the right place. In fact, you're doing much better than others have done this year; you've posted a seperate thread about a specific issue, instead of embedding it in an irrelevant thread. Good on you. -
The best thread every year. Thank you.

The method has built-in vagaries: issues having to do with fit, what faculty are willing to work on, how a sample *strikes* them, how each member of the adcom interprets letters of rec, how each adcom member values different elements differently (e.g., some think the GRE is useless, while others think it tracks philosophical/academic ability and so is important). What would be worrying is if the method was too iron-clad, only measuring quantitative data points (i.e., GRE and GPA). That would seem to be a very unreliable method.
-
All applicants should keep these sorts of disparities in mind. It happens every year. Some are on the brink of getting shut out, only to be accepted to a top-5 last minute. This process is quite unpredictable, save for the exceptional cases (e.g., all elements of the file are top-notch—like, perfect GREs and a published sample).

I apologize if my post seemed to insinuate that ND sends out notifications alphabetically. I was only sharing an additional part of the frustration with admissions, whereby one is mislead into thinking they are safe, and especially when one isn't sure how any given program notifies from year to year. It *could* apply to ND, but I didn't have that specifically in mind. My bad.
