The reason for this kind of policy is often to make sure that students don't get away with serial behavior like this, where it happens once in each class and if it's not reported to some central body, the Prof has no way of knowing that it's not just an isolated incident but instead a pattern. If this is a first offense and it's this tiny, even if it were reported -- again, for the 1000th time -- it's highly unlikely to have any serious consequences. So for the love of god, relax, and don't write 72 word long sentences to begin with. 

Honestly, the biggest offense in this scenario is probably the fact you have a 72-word sentence.

@punctiliousdog You really should seek counseling if this issue haunts you enough to fixate on over multiple years and assignments. 

You have higher odds of getting hit by a meteorite. Believe me, even if that passage was terribly obvious plagiarism, professors barely have time to read papers for the first time to correct them, much to less go back and read old papers.

I got accepted off the waitlist for the MS Clinical Psychology program at SJSU.

Started undergrad at 33, master's at 38, starting a PhD program at 40.  Professors I inteviewed with said my life/work experiences were what caught their attention.  

2 years ago I was waitlisted and never made it off the list. This year I was in the same position again and didn't think the outcome would be any different, which was slightly disheartening. But today I got a phone call that I was accepted off the waitlist, and it made all the agony and waiting worth it. Sometimes you'll make it off the waitlist, sometimes you won't. But you just have to keep trying. Life is short and there's only so much time to do what you want to do. So if this is your passion and what you see yourself doing, don't give up! Keep fighting and pushing forward with the confidence that you are good enough!

Just be careful with this, as CUDCP rules state you are only supposed to hold 2 offers at a time. Granted, I don't know how they can really enforce these rules, but I was told by a DCT that their program strictly follows that. 

So, as an old soul who went through this process many years ago, here's my take...
I got offers from multiple PhD programs the week of or after interviews (in my case, some time in February).  I waited on my 1st choice up until April 15th (for which I was told I was an "alternate")  That day (4/15), I still hadn't heard from my program of choice.  I called them repeatedly throughout the day and wasn't told until 4:45pm that they were giving the spot to someone else.  I had to hustle to get my letter of acceptance into my next favorite program - which, coincidentally, had been contacting me regularly since my interview, asking about my intentions.  All this to say, when a program REALLY wants you, you know it (and they make it very clear.)  When they are waiting on someone else to accept or reject their offer, it often takes until the last minute.  It doesn't mean they don't want you, but it does mean they want someone else more.  As a result, you should be ready with an acceptance to your 2nd choice school, or else they might give away the spot...

I've just done a very nice email and mentioned how hard the decision was and how grateful I was for the opportunity. I thought about doing it over the phone but email is a little more concrete.
