  1. Hey! Sorry for just now seeing this but no I haven’t bought any extra storage while using this system
  2. Hello! The university of Pittsburgh has an excellent psychology post bacc program!! It’s so amazing - I attended this one. I’ve also heard that Northwestern, UC Berkeley and UC Irvine and more. I started my search for post baccs using apa - https://www.apa.org/ed/precollege/psn/2014/09/post-baccalaureate.aspx hopefully this helps!
  3. Thank you! I was beginning to worry! I will pm you!
  4. Well I guess I’m the only one going to SLU ?
  5. I think tattoos are appropriate for graduate school. A lot of my friends and myself have tattoos that are shown daily! I think if it made you uncomfortable about your tattoo then you should cover it. But he might have made that comment because he didn’t expect you to have a tattoo, which was the case with my advisor. I have two tattoos on my shoulders as well (and I often forget they are there too). Maybe he added the on you because it fits your personality or something However, I probably would’ve been creeped out by the wink too. Winks are weird. If he was just like oh that’s a nice tattoo on you sans the wink, I would’ve been more okay.
  6. If I were in your shoes, I’d probably forego it. I think those scores are sufficient for counseling programs! Especially with the GRE being so expensive lol I would focus on your publications as well as going thru your application materials that you used before to look for room for improvement. Especially if your POI’s don’t respond to an email asking for areas of improvement (because I did and only one person responded ?). When I reapplied I formatted everything differently, which idk if it helped but it made me feel better.
  7. I use basically this system - https://youtu.be/1EAuzLutf8M
  8. I’ve been using a google form, but it still put everything into an excel file when it’s all said and done. But I always be sure to include keywords to make it more searchable.
  9. I agree with what everyone has said above. What I did specifically was look at their schools academic calendars to make sure i wasn’t emailing during midterms. Which was a little extra, but I think it helped get my email in the perfect window during the semester! I emailed like a week and a half (almost two weeks) before midterms
  10. I didn’t see this already done for this fall so... I’m starting the trend! I will be in the clinical psychology Ph.D. program! I am super excited about starting! I will be moving from PGH.
  11. I’ve personally been going thru the same thing! I’ve just been trying to not work myself up about it too much. Like “there’s a reason I got in and it will be okay.” It’s hard tho
  12. Soooo this post is mainly folks that applied this cycle and were successful (hopefully this doesn’t sound offensive). I am super excited about being able to pursue this dream but I’m also super nervous. I am feeling a bit anxious about starting in the fall. I don’t know if steming from having to move half way across the country or starting a new program or if it’s from like all the work put in and finally getting accepted or imposter syndrome or what. I am just wondering if I am the only one experiencing this. If you have any tips on combatting this please share ?
  13. Acceptances typically come from the department. In the case of psychology most likely from the faculty advisor or the department chair of HMB. I didn’t find out until like the last week of June tbh.
  14. I applied to both a counseling and clinical PhD programs at the same university. My sense was that the two programs didn’t really interact in terms of applicants
  15. Unfortunately, I had some professors flake on me so I had the same three do all 12/13 (mostly Ph.D., like 2 or 3 Masters) of my applications. I think that is fine. My professors didn't seem to mind. I did provide them with spreadsheets, research interests specific to each school, due dates and everything humanly possible to make the process as easy as possible for them.
  16. Hello! You are not doomed at all! I didn't have ANY publications while applying and still got into a few clinical psychology programs. I think as long as you have good research experiences and good skill set (and able to talk about those experiences and skills in a great way in the interview) - it should be okay. Like SarahTonin said above, it is getting more common for students to have publications, but I wouldn't let that discourage you. Your experience is valuable without a publication!
  17. I personally applied to both Ph.D. and Master's programs because like you, I wanted a backup plan. I applied to MSW programs and Harvard's Masters Program thru the school of education (I have somewhat wide interests). Depending on your interests you could apply for MSW programs, Master's in psychology (the one in mind is the Teacher's College at Columbia - a girl in my lab went there before doing a Ph.D.), Public Health or even counseling. Outside of the MSW, I've heard of people having these Master's degrees and going on to Ph.D. Programs in psychology. However, a master's degree doesn't always you an extra leg up, but sometimes it does help. It just depends on what the POI is looking for tbh. But Like others people have stated above me, most Masters programs are unfunded. However, there are some funded! Just be sure to ask and be assertive about it.
  18. I can answer the second two questions. But the first one not so much because I didn't take the Psych GRE, even for the schools that "recommended" it. So for LOR I reached out by the second week of school. I just asked if they would be willing to write a strong and positive letter on my behalf. I reached out super early because I wanted time as a cushion just in case they said no or took forever to respond (which ended up happening). I also would recommend reaching out to more professors than you need, just in case folks don't respond - which is what happened to me. But in your case, it would be best to reach out earlier. When I reached out I included what classes I took with them, my CV, my unofficial transcript and draft Personal Statement (or just what you are interested in) As for reaching out to POI's I did mine the first week in October. Just to give myself enough time if they weren't taking students to "re-adjust" my plans.
  19. I agree with psygeek! I think narrowing down your specific interest in psychology would be most beneficial because then it will allow you to narrow down Masters programs to fit your interests and need.
  20. Hello! I haven’t sent an email yet to my new advisor but I really want to asking the same thing.... what did you all put in the email? I’m worried I’m sounding “over-zealous”
  21. I applied the first time in undergrad during fall 2015 and I was 21/22 ( apps are due Dec 1 and my Bday is Dec 2nd) and didn’t get in. Took a gap year. Did a post bacc for this year. I applied for the second time fall 2017 and got in this time. And I’m 23/24.
  22. I am going to be attending Saint Louis University for Clinical Psychology! I am super excited!! If you are going to SLU or even WASHU since it's close - I would love to connect with you!
  23. I’m waitlisyed there too! Hopefully we will know soon!
