  1. Yay for Minnesota!!! I have a friend who absolutely loves it there. Congrats!
  2. I guess you’d have to define what you mean by “match up.” In the humanities (but especially in TAPS) there’s not really a tier or rank system that makes one program wholly comparable to another. There’s too much specialization for that kind of hierarchy to happen. Both of those programs are great in respective areas. For example, UT has awesome faculty when it comes to preparing students for publishing. Could you be more specific as to what you’re looking for? Also, I just got a UW interview! Excited.
  3. Hi guys, I hate to bear bad news: If you haven't been contacted by Brown at all, I'm sorry to say it's a rejection. DGS says official letters will go out soon.
  4. Congrats!! So excited for you. Brown *did* have an extended deadline this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that has delayed their usual schedule. If any of you brave ones choose to bite the bullet & reach out to these programs re: status of admissions...feel free to post about it in here. ? As for me, just applied to Washington. All done with apps!
  5. The results page says someone was contacted for an interview by Brown TAPS?
  6. And we’re sure they send interview requests all out at once? :( Double oof
  7. I’m passing along a warning from a friend offsite—H*rvard might be inconsistent when it comes to funding arts grad students. She had amazing learning experiences, but they left her with 6-figure debt, which she didn’t expect from an Ivy. If you get an interview I’d recommend (professionally) ensuring you’re on the same page about finances. If you have enough external support to swing it, it could be great for you—but it might be a mistake for first gen students, or those with dependents to support. Also, general reminder, look into your prospective programs’ grad unions. Dissertating is hard enough. Make sure you’re as taken care of as possible. ❤️
  8. Rejected.
  9. Did anybody else apply to Knight-Hennessy? We find out tomorrow about finalists...excited and scared. Ready to be relieved either way.
  10. I just posted in a similar thread about this but I'll post here too: I just got an email from KH, but all it said was to check my status tomorrow at 1PM Pacific time. I swear, my first reaction to the notification was my heart dropping to my feet, since an email came a day earlier than expected. This has been such an involved process; I'm not sure if I'll be relieved, heartbroken or both if I'm not a finalist. That being said, the application itself was rewarding for me...lots of introspection. We'll see. I wish you all the best of luck with your decisions and applications in general. You've got this.

Update: Whoops, didn't realize this was an old thread.
  12. I am feeling pretty okay, too. I've been working on my materials for quite some time now, so I'm satisfied that they are the best they can be. Wishing everyone the best of luck, too.
  13. Happy Fall, everybody! What's your PhD short list? I won't get into my research interests too much, as to not out myself. In no particular order, here's mine: Washington Stanford (By the way, phew @ that October 10th Knight-Hennessy fellowship deadline.) Brown Also Northwestern (maybe) Pitt (maybe maybe) Minnesota (maybe maybe maybe)
  14. Hi theatergeek, After speaking to an affiliate of that program, what I've learned is the Artistic Statement prompt is asking about your unique perspective and practices as a Theatre Maker-Lover-Advocate-Person. So, while the personal statement is about why you want this PhD, what you're doing/will do at Stanford/will do after Stanford, why Stanford is a good fit for you and vice versa, etc. The Artistic statement is about practice. Are you a director? Performer? Playwright? How do YOU approach your practice of theatre/performance, and why?
  15. Got 3 rejections in 24 hours. The personalized emails made it seem as if I was a formidable candidate for many of them, though. (By the way, if you haven't heard from Brown yet you should reach out because she was surprised I hadn't heard. I'm sorry to say it's probably a no for you.) Not sure if their compliments about my application makes things better or worse for my bruised ego right now. Anybody apply for UMD?
  16. Just received a (very kind) unofficial rejection from UMass. Not gonna lie; this sucks. I just want to know where I'm going to be this time next year, if anywhere. UC Berkeley | CU Boulder (no funding) | Brown | Florida State | Yale | UMass Amherst | UMD
  17. I have a good feeling about today since it's the first of the month and it seems like a likely decision deadline for at least one of these programs. Good vibes to everyone; I've been losing my mind, waiting!
  18. Has anybody heard of any non-directing interviews from Yale Drama? We're dying over in the Theatre Studies thread.
  19. Just got accepted for CU Boulder!
  20. Just got accepted for MA at CU Boulder! Excited to be accepted somewhere, but I'm still anxious about the rest of my (possible) offers. Anybody else get anything? UC Berkeley | CU Boulder | Brown | Florida State | Yale | UMass Amherst | UMD
  21. What's the situation with interviews and chances of admission? Does not getting an interview generally mean a rejection? Could someone be admitted without one?
  22. @mariahjewelalanis I really, really hope so. I took a mental health day today; I keep jumping every time my phone beeps. I haven't checked my portals yet today though. Keep us updated!
  23. Anybody heard anything? Interviews, emails? Nothing from my end. I'm so anxious...
  24. Hi everyone. I applied to a slew of MA/PhDs, one MA (Florida State) and one MFA (Yale). I got my first rejection with the first round of UC Berkeley rejections, so I'm zero for 8 right now. It concerns me to hear about interviews...I haven't been invited for any as of yet. However, it does comfort me that there have been some people on this thread who've been rejected already from schools like Brown from whom I haven't heard anything...yet. So I guess that's good news, if I wasn't rejected with the rest. I must've moved up a round or something. This is all so anxiety-inducing.
