  1. I don't think anyone deciding between these two programs can go wrong. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not the program offers classes that can build your skillset for your career goal. I have chosen SAIS, but my decision was easy since I was not admitted into SSP. Check out what user 16381776 said in this thread:
  2. All applications were for security studies, or the equivalent

    Accepted: Korbel, ESIA, SIS, SAIS

    Rejected: Fletcher, SIPA, SFS

    Attending: SAIS

  3. I completely agree. I am choosing not to attend GW for a few reasons, and the new curriculum is one of them.
  4. What was the end result of this thread? This will be a topic for a few of us by the end of this week.
  5. I know Korbel uses Rosetta Stone for their languages, and there is no language requirement. They also have some quant too. What sort of Quant are you looking into? Quantitative Analysis, Stats, Econ, Calculus?
  6. No, its actually just a Masters. The Pardee school I am talking about is Boston University's Pardee School. I wasn't aware that the RAND Corp offered schooling... What do you make of Korbel?
  7. No military/IC experience. I was medically denied. Interested in Russia and Terrorism. No clearance.
  8. Important: what is in your background that can validate your claims?
  9. That last paragraph...hurts but feels good at the same time. I feel like I can choose anywhere I want now as long as I apply via websites. Also, I am a current contractor in Aerospace...can confirm it is inferior to being an employee. Higher hourly pay as a contractor, but almost no benefits. No overtime.
  10. Got accepted for the MA in DC for Strategic Studies. Pretty torn between schools though. Anyone have tidbits of info or resources for insight on SAIS?
  11. Why Korbel>ESIA, other than fellowship or financial reasons? I am in that debacle myself.
  12. I have been accepted into four schools thus far (Korbel, Pardee, Elliott, and SIS...but threw SIS out of the running), and need different perspectives on what I should be looking for in these masters programs. Assume money is not a major factor. Have yet to hear back from Fletcher, SAIS, SIPA, and SFS. So far I have been mapping out which classes I would be taking under the respective programs, and I am quite satisfied with each of the three. The things I am looking for in a program are: Jobs with security clearance in the area Dual concentration abilities Russian Language Boren Scholarship awardee history Curriculum is policy/ case oriented rather than theoretical Professors are practitioners in their field Successful placement rate into the Intelligence Community What else should I take into consideration? Does anyone have information to offer? I have spoken with students, alumni, and professors who all love their respective schools. Thanks in advance for all those who reply. Feel free to message me if necessary. -Frosty

  14. Got accepted International Security! No email, but saw randomly in the application portal. Where else did you all apply? I applied to SIS, ESIA, SIPA, SAIS, Fletcher, and SFS all for security studies.
  15. what makes you think SIPA?
  16. Can you talk a little about your experience at GW? Can anyone comment on how GW, Georgetown, SAIS, SIPA, or Korbel compare to AU's SIS US Foreign Policy and National Security concentration?
  17. International Affairs. Either of those minors sound good too, but the ME might focus you onto ME terrorism where Security might offer more on a macro lens.
  18. You just cold emailed professors at the school? how did you word your questions pertaining to "If I would be a good fit"?
  19. Havent heard yet, so I think decisions are released mid march..? Ive heard back form some schools before the posted decision date so I cant trust the mid march deadline either
  20. Why did we all apply to Korbel? I wanted one school with an outside the East Coast feel, and for reputable alumni network (though I have my reservations as to how powerful it can be after graduation).
  21. I am curious as to what the difference between policy oriented and academic oriented curriculums are. Anyone care to enlighten me?
  22. I am in a similar dilemma, and what I am focusing on is the career outcomes and networking opportunities either from the location or faculty. For my situation, the curriculum varies minimally (Security Studies), so I am focusing on which school will help most after I graduate.
